Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored at Site-32 in secure lockup restricted to Security Clearance Level 3 or higher. SCP-XXXX is inert and displays no anomalous properties unless worn on the wrist.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a neon green fabric covered slap bracelet with pink striations recovered from the personal effects of a 36 year old Caucasian male at ████████ Psychiatric Ward in ████████ Texas, United States. Analysis of the bracelet reveals it is made of standard material consistent with slap bracelets manufactured between 1991 and 1995.
SCP-XXXX begins to display anomalous properties when worn on the wrist. Initial onset of symptoms are mild, with wearers reporting nostalgia for 90's era pop culture. If the bracelet is removed at any time, regardless of the severity of symptoms, the symptoms will immediately cease. Continued exposure exacerbates symptoms. Subjects who were born after 1991 do not present with any symptoms beyond a general feeling of malaise until exposure reaches 48 hours, at which point symptoms proceed as normal. (See Addendum XXXX-A for Symptom Progression)
Cranial MRI scans of individuals wearing SCP-XXXX show increased activity in the hippocampus, the neocortex and the amygdala, with long-term exposure showing a depression of the pre-frontal cortex and excitation of the occiptial lobe. The mechanism of action for this activity is not currently known.
Research into SCP-XXXX has concluded and is pending review by 05-█ to determine if any further investigation is warranted.
Addendum XXXX-A:| Exposure Time | Symptoms | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Initial | Mild Nostalgia for 90's Pop Culture | Upon exposure, researcher Wilson remarked that he hadn't seen a slap bracelet since he was 11 and began reminiscing about the popular 90's cartoon "Ren and Stimpy" |
| 12 Hours | Compulsion to purchase and/or wear apparel from the 90's | Researcher Wilson at this stage reported a compulsion to purchase and wear apparel from the decade and was seen browsing the internet looking for said apparel |
| 24 Hours | Adoption of 90's slang | Researcher Wilson began to use slang from the 90's in his research notes. At this stage, further testing of SCP-XXXX's effects was decided to be carried out on D-Class personnel only |
| 36 hours | Enhanced memory of 90's events | Subject D-10022 displayed enhanced memory of events that occurred during the 90's, accurately recalling events and trivia with relative ease |
| 48 Hours | Incorrect recollection of events | Subject D-10022 at this stage began having memory faults of events, despite answering them with confidence. When questioned, subjects at this stage of exposure will give incorrect answers to questions involving the decade. When corrected on their answers, they insist that this is way is has always been.(See Interview XXXX-C) |
| 60 Hours | Incoherent Responses | Subject D-10045 at this stage presented with symptoms consistent with 48 hours of exposure. However, when questioned about events that happened during 1999, the subject began to give incoherent responses (See Interview Log XXXX-E) |
| 96 Hours | Mental Degradation | Subjects at this stage show a marked decreased in short-term memory and begin to present with visual, olfactory, and auditory hallucinations. At this time, this is considered the final stage of symptom progression. Removal of SCP-XXXX at this stage results in the symptoms regressing, but the administration of Class-A Amnesetics are required to prevent long-term psychological damage. (See Interview Log XXXX-K) |
