Object Class: Euclid

BasicChair-162B3824.jpg

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-010 is to be kept in a standard containment cubicle, hanging from the ceiling by four secured steel cables, at Site 13. These cables may lower or raise SCP-010, controlled by a remote kept in the same containment cubicle. This precaution is so that no one may accidentally or purposefully sit on SCP-010, in case the anomalous effect activates once more. SCP-010 must never be sat on by Site Personnel, and only D-Class Personnel may be utilized for any procedures that would be conducted on SCP-010. Anyone wishing to see the anomalous effects of SCP-010 must use a D-Class Personnel, and they must not be informed of the anomalous effect of SCP-010 as to prevent paranoia.

Description: SCP-010 is a wooden chair, approximately three feet in height, and four feet in width. It is a common wooden chair, however any stickers or marks that would indicate the creator or the producer of SCP-010 is missing. SCP-010 has an anomalous property, which only manifests once a person has sat down on SCP-010. Once the person sits on SCP-010, they will cease to exist. Immediately after sitting down on SCP-010, the person will simply vanish, leaving no trace of their being behind. Any possessions that they are holding, or are stored in their pocket, will vanish with them. It is unknown if SCP-010 is the chair itself, or rather an anomalous property contained within SCP-010.

Recovery: SCP-010 was recovered from a home in Maryland, Virginia on March 12, 19██, after a report from the local police of a "missing-persons case" was sent out. The police report described that the family had just bought new furniture for their new home, and were getting ready to eat their meal for the afternoon. The 34-year old mother, the 41-year old father, and the 10-year old son had all sat down at the table to eat. The 7-year old daughter had come downstairs, and come to the table, sitting at the last available chair at the table, which was SCP-010. Upon sitting, she disappeared, however her parents and her sibling reportedly were looking away from her chair as they were focused on the meal on the counter to the side. Once they looked back, she had completely vanished from the table and the chair. Her blanket, referred to by her family as "her blankie", vanished with her. The SCP Foundation became involved, containing the anomalous chair and transporting it to the nearest Site for testing. Police officers at the scene were given the cover story of that she had vanished into the woods nearby the house, and a search was established. After five weeks of continuous searching, she was never recovered. Her family was not given any amnestics, as explained in an order by the presiding researcher at the time, Dr. Xavier Blue:

From the order by Dr. Xavier Blue: Sure, we could make them forget. Sure, we could edit their family photos, their house, their possessions, etc. Sure, we could make it so they don't remember this. But, think about the situation. The cover story was administered, and it was accepted immediately, with no doubt or questioning. Besides, sometimes it's better to remember than to forget just to alleviate pain. If we gave amnestics for every bad memory or bad instance of life which happened, who would we be?

Addendum 010.1 - Testing is to be carried out on SCP-010 immediately as to ascertain whether or not it will activate these anomalous properties once again.

Addendum 010.2 - SCP-010 is no longer to be tested, as any anomalous properties have disappeared.

Incident SCP-010.2 - Dated September 23, 200█: On September 23, 200█, Researcher ████████ was in process of observing an interview with SCP-5027. Once entering the room outside of the interview, Researcher ████████ sat down on a regular Foundation-grade chair in the room, where she promptly disappeared to the bewilderment and shock of everyone in the room at the time. A search went out through the entire Site, but they were never recovered. Approximately one hour after the disappearance of Researcher ████████, a connection to SCP-010 was theorized, but it was never confirmed, as not only had the original instance stopped exerting any anomalous properties, but also that the chair in question to which Researcher ████████ sat down upon had just been used by another Professor three minutes before. Security footage reveals that there was no seeable or noticeable change in the chair itself or any change to the area around it. This was the first recorded instance of SCP-010 since the original incident on March 12, 19 ██. The chair in question from this second incident was immediately incinerated.

Incident SCP-010.3 - Black Wednesday - Dated October 6, 200█ - On October 6, 200█, The Foundation experienced what is hereby referenced as Incident SCP-010.3, collectively called by witnesses as "Black Wednesday. On this day, a total of 17█ personnel disappeared from multiple Sites in the Foundation's custody. Roughly an estimated 59% of this number were D-Class Personnel, whom either were sitting down in their holding cells in the Foundation-grade D-Class chairs provided, or were sitting down for testing with other SCP's in the Foundation custody. An estimated 29% were Foundation researchers, professors, and members of authority whom sat on a Foundation-grade chair at either a desk, a table, or a lounge chair in the employee break room. The remaining 2% were SCP's in custody of the Foundation, such as SCP-███, SCP-████, and SCP-███. These SCP have been stripped of their classification, and are un-accessible to anyone other than the O5-Council. These instances sat on Foundation-grade chairs given to them by the Foundation in their holding cells.

Every recorded instance of these SCP-010 instances were the exact same in detail, with no anomalous changes or memetic activity discovered in any of the 83 recorded surveillance videos. In every instance, the person or SCP in question went to sit at the SCP-010 instance which had been sat on just moments or minutes before by other personnel. The shortest recorded amount of time was 4.3 seconds, and the longest recorded amount of time was fifteen days before the chair was last sat on. In every single recorded instance of "Black Wednesday", the person in question sat on the SCP-010 instance, and disappeared immediately afterwards. No trace of them were left behind, and, just as the original instance of SCP-010, any possessions on them at the time disappeared with them. Possessions, such as Identification Passes, wallets, glasses, hearing aids, ██████, necklaces, clothing, shoes, wallets, purses, rings, cellphones, ███████, and piercings of any kind are prime examples.

Although multiple instances of SCP-010 have been recorded and have caused multiple members of not only D-Class Personnel, but also Foundation Personnel, to disappear, this date is recorded for the proceeding document as a prime example of the exhibitive power that SCP-010 has. This day is the only day in question that has reached the triple digits, and is the single-worse recorded date of SCP-010 instances.

Dr. Xavier Blue, the originally-assigned researcher of SCP-010, did not disappear from "Black Wednesday", however instead had to be removed and administered Class-A amnestics three weeks after "Black Wednesday" due to a newly-uncovered fear of chairs, and his complete refusal to sit in any chair, Foundation-grade or foreign, was impeding his work ethnic. Approximately two months after being removed from the Foundation, he disappeared in his home and has not been found. It is unknown if he somehow sat on a random instance of SCP-010, or if another story is in play.

Addendum 010.3 - It was after "Black Wednesday" that a revision to the original document for SCP-010 was requested due to the newly discovered knowledge that SCP-010 is not just one chair which is in Foundation custody, but rather any chair in the world. This request was granted.

Object Class: Euclid Keter

SCP-010 is uncontainable, as once the anomalous properties have manifested and then have occurred, any SCP-010 instance will become just an ordinary chair once more. SCP-010 instances are indistinguishable from ordinary chairs, as no anomalous property manifests in the appearance of an SCP-010 instance. SCP-010 instances can manifest at any moment other than at the moment that a person is sitting on the instance of SCP-010, making complete containment of SCP-010 impossible. The best containment procedure in hand is for anyone who wishes to sit down at any moment must only do so at their discretion, and must sit on the floor or any other flat surface not meant for sitting if they do not need to sit down bad enough to sit on a chair.

Public containment of SCP-010 is impossible as well, however SCP-010 has seemingly contained itself slightly, as it will not manifest in an extremely busy place, such as a bar or wedding party. Rather, it manifests in small homes, small businesses, and other places where there are not an extreme amount of human activity. No animal has ever been recorded disappearing on an SCP-010 instance to date. Any SCP-010 instance disappearance in the general public is to be recorded, confirmed or denied, and then a common Class-C misinformation campaign is unleashed, chalking it up as a mysterious disappearance.

Once an instance of SCP-010 is discovered, it is to be transported to the nearest Site in Foundation custody, and then tested once, and only once, with a D-Class Personnel. They are to sit on it, and if they don't disappear, the chair is to be incinerated immediately. If they do disappear, the chair is to be places in it's own containment cell for further testing in hopes of finding a common theme or pattern. To date, there has been no instance of SCP-010 that ha occurred more than once, and the only instance of SCP-010 that has been kept is the original discovered instance, which has not displayed any anomalous properties as of the date of it's three tests.

The only way for SCP-010 instances to be completely contained and removed from the Keter class is with the complete obliteration of all chairs on the planet Earth.

SCP-010 is an anomalous property that occurs anywhere within the planet Earth, in any chair of any model and brand, from any year. Chairs from the 19th century, as well as chairs just assembled from multiple brands of furniture, all have become instances of SCP-010. Chairs become an instance of SCP-010 when the anomalous property occurs, as there is no complete way to acknowledge and confirm the exact moment that a normal chair becomes an instance of SCP-010.

Any pattern of how SCP-010 instances occur is unknown. It is believed at this time to be extremely and completely random, as confirmed the week of zero disappearances before "Black Wednesday". Chairs the day, minute, and even few seconds before becoming an instance of SCP-010 have all had no changes in any appearance to fabrics. Chairs with three legs, a missing screw, a missing seat, a missing bar, a missing plank of wood, chipped paint, missing leg rests, missing cup holders, missing threads, vandalized, and even multiple of these options have all become instances of SCP-010 throughout recorded instances of SCP-010.

Theorized Instances of SCP-010 Present in Other SCP's:
SCP Number Date (If Possible) Occurrence
SCP-3008 N/A An instance of SCP-010 has been theorized from a stricken sentence in the journal recovered from Incident 3008-1, however this is unconfirmed, as the man wrote "he was there, and once I turned to see how the rebuilding was going, he was gone. Don't know where he went." It is theorized only due to the unescapable nature of SCP-3008.
SCP-2508 September 3, 2008 During the current owner's living conditions of SCP-2508, he sat on a chair that has always been kept in SCP-2508 and vanished, opening up the slot immediately for the next resident of SCP-2508. Due to the anomalous properties of SCP-2508, it is nearly confirmed that the disappearance is due to SCP-010.
SCP-1122 Three days after discovery There were originally five instances of SCP-1122, until roughly three days after SCP-1122's discovery, where SCP-1122-5 became missing upon the next visit. Each instance of SCP-1122-1 through SCP-1122-4 do not acknowledge ever there being another person in SCP-1122.
SCP-823 ██-██-████ A lesser-known incident, which occurred in the dates before "Bloody Sunday", a male of roughly thirty-five years of age vanished while sitting on a bench waiting for his wife and child to return from the restroom. It is unknown if he disappeared due to the bench becoming an instance of SCP-010, or if it was another anomalous property of SCP-823. There were no witnesses, and there is no CCTV footage.
SCP-112 January 13, 19██ According to the witness, she had boarded SCP-112 with her boyfriend at the time. Once they had boarded, she looked away before the ride started, then looked back to find he had disappeared. She experienced a duration of forty-seven minutes on her experience of SCP-112, and stated that he didn't appear at all during the entire ride. This is the only recorded instance when a possible SCP-010 instance has materialized in a seat that didn't technically classify as a chair, as it did not have four legs at the time nor does it now.
SCP-2602 ██-██-████, around the time it used to be a library A male person whom entered SCP-2602, which used to be a library, did not leave the premises and was never seen again. It is unknown if he simply wasn't seen leaving SCP-2602, which used to be a library, or if it was an instance of SCP-010.
SCP-2701 April 23, 2012 A prisoner whom was locked inside SCP-2701 disappeared under the normal terms to which the anomalous properties of SCP-2701 already has. However, they disappeared as soon as they sat on the provided chair that was inside the cell at the time. The name of the prisoner did not appear on the sheet, nor any information of their release date. They have not reappeared since. This is the only recorded instance of a prisoner not following the anomalous properties of SCP-2701.
SCP-2852 ██-██-████ During a Black-Level event, the father of the deceased sat back down at his foldable chair after slitting his throat and pouring blood into the casket. Once sitting down, he disappeared, and the only reaction was SCP-2852 himself, whom looked at the empty chair with a deadpan look, interrupting the Black-Level event for thirty-six seconds, before resuming as normal. It is unknown if SCP-2852 saw him disappear, or if he even knew that it would happen.
