Item #: SCP-5156 | The Eye Of Providence

Object Class: Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures:

While deployed, SCP-5156 must be situated at the corner of the room it shall observe, akin to any other security camera, in order to begin tracking the object or entity before it. During this time, it must be within one-hundred (100) meters of a screen of any kind, in order for SCP-5156 to transmit and record the footage captured. It is also highly recommended that SCP-5156 is installed in such a way that it can rotate 360 degrees for maximum tracking efficiency, especially in the case of a containment breach.

In the rare occasion when SCP-5156 is not in use, it must be deactivated and maintained, as its electronic and physical components are mostly unique, and irreplaceable. As such, electrical engineers approved by staff of Level 5 security clearance are assigned to the care and maintenance of SCP-5156.

In the case where an irreplaceable component of SCP-5156 is destroyed, intentionally or not, SCP-5156 will be considered Neutralized, as attempting to activate SCP-5156 without these unique components results in the anomaly either failing to operate, or activating without its anomalous tracking properties.

Description:

SCP-5156 is a wireless, seemingly independently powered CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) unit of unknown model and make, resembling a late-1990s to early 2000s telescopic surveillance camera, covered in a thick, aged yellow plastic casing. Despite its seemingly mundane appearance, its capabilities far exceed the standard CCTV unit, and even the capacities of Foundation surveillance technology.

SCP-5156 was initially discovered within a recently-abandoned rural convenience store, situated within ████████, Nebraska. The Foundation was alerted from an anonymous tip that an unknown, seemingly-impossible piece of technology was planted within the store, with no one but the anonymous tipper acknowledging its sudden installation. Foundation agents were sent immediately to retrieve the item, and to their surprise, the store was found abandoned, with the electricity and the items on the shelves still intact. Within the two day stakeout/observation period, no customer nor employee arrived at the convenience store. Upon further investigation, Agent ███ discovered that all traces of transactions, personal information, tax returns, and other identifying legal documents were no longer present within the establishment. Moreover, no traces of DNA, such as fingerprints and hair strands, were found on any surface or object within the property.

SCP-5156 is capable of transmitting footage of items and/or entities which are normally imperceptible to the human eye, which include but are not limited to;

  • The electromagnetic spectrum, including magnetic fields and polarity,
  • What appears to be the ‘aura’ of various living beings,
  • Gamma rays,
  • Ultraviolet waves,
  • █████████████

The manner in which SCP-5156 converts imperceptible objects and entities into visible and audible forms is currently unknown. Researchers and Engineers within the Foundation speculate that the unique, irreplaceable parts within SCP-5156 contribute to this conversion.

The aforementioned unique, unknown components of SCP-5156 are as follows;

  • A grey microchip embedded into SCP-5156’s motherboard, bearing the symbol of the All-Seeing Eye, with the triangle inverted. The emblem is colored a faded black.
  • A miniature gyroscope, which stabilizes SCP-5156 as it tracks moving living entities. It is composed of an unidentifiable form of steel alloy, and efforts to remove it from SCP-5156 have proved futile.
  • A fixed 3.6 mm lens with zooming capabilities. Said feature is accessible if a screen it transmits to is connected to a zoom button/dial.
  • The lens contains a unique form of glass whose molecular structure resembles that of crystalline quartz; the Foundation’s researchers suspect this to be some kind of ‘forged’ or ‘refined’ Quartz.

In addition to these anomalous components, SCP-5156 exhibits useful and sometimes critical features which aid the Foundation in the surveillance of other SCPs.

If the footage from SCP-5156 is transmitted to a terminal or a screen with with audio and video cycling (this can range from simple arrow keys to even a remote control), the camera can selectively cycle between different audio and visual frequencies. By default, however, SCP-5156 will adapt to whatever subject or energy it detects, and will automatically cycle to the appropriate mode.

For instance, if SCP-5156 is used for research on an entity which creates sounds at a frequency too high or low for human hearing, provided that a speaker of any kind is within proximity to SCP-5156, the sounds will become perceptible to the people within range of the audio output.

Incident Report 5156-A

A team consisting of Dr. ████████, Researchers ████████ and █████, and two Level 5 security clearance-approved electrical engineers were tasked to run preliminary testing on SCP-5156 prior to its application within the Foundation's facilities.

Incident Report 5156-1:
One of the electrical engineers assigned to the team installed the device on the ceiling of a secure office space (belonging to Dr. ████████) in order to determine if the camera begins its tracking through a specific means. After de-activating and re-activating SCP-5156 for a total of ten (10) times, the researchers in the group concluded that SCP-5156 has no initial preference in terms of subject tracking. However, upon four out of five team members leaving SCP-5156's line of sight, the entity focused on Researcher █████, who briskly walked out of the room rather than normally walking. In addition to this, SCP-5156 only ceased its focus on Researcher █████ as they stood still; SCP-5156, for a brief moment, saw Researcher █████ through the office space walls, albeit in a bright red silhouette. This was recorded and witnessed through the nearby terminal which SCP-5156 transmitted to.

Note:
Due to this observation, it is recommended that SCP-5156 is to be installed in a room with less than three living beings, in order for the entity to not be distracted by other subjects in view. Future testing must involve attempts to bypass the automatic tracking capabilities of SCP-5156.
