Item #: SCP-3284
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3284 is to be kept within a double-padlocked steel container 4x4x4 feet in size at all times, located in the center of a 20x20x20 foot room protected and guarded by MTF unit Lime-1 “Shaders”. MTF unit Lime-1 “Shaders” is to be comprised of 4 personnel specially trained in the use of remotely controlled devices and robots (used for the recontainment of SCP-3284). Any new instances of SCP-3284-1 are to be administered an anesthetic and knocked unconscious immediately. Any approaching of SCP-3284 must be done by an authorized personnel equipped with a device capable of immediately knocking them unconscious by remote input. Any instances of SCP-3284-1 are to be contained in Site ██ in a medically induced permanent comatose state in ███████. In the event the current SCP-3284-1 becomes conscious, lockdown of SCP-3284’s containment chamber must occur and all personnel must vacate a safe distance from any direct path between SCP-3284 and SCP-3284-1, and immediate attempts to return SCP-3284-1 to a comatose state must be made. Upon failure of these attempts, SCP-3284-1 is to be terminated immediately via memetic kill agent, and if a breach has occured, SCP-3284 is to be remotely recontained by MTF unit Lime-1.
Description: SCP-3284 appears to be a standard 28 inch tall United States traffic cone composed of plastic. Upon any conscious human entering within three (3) feet of the entity, SCP-3284 will begin to radiate with an intense light fluctuating between X and X lumens, peaking in the infrared part of the spectrum. The emitted light is strong enough to permanently blind any nearby subjects after only half a second of exposure. At this point, SCP-3284’s target subject becomes an instance of SCP-3284-1. After precisely 4.323, seconds, the object will fly through the air towards SCP-3284-1, mounting itself on top of the head of its target and completely destroying its head within two seconds. After completing this process, SCP-3284 will stop glowing and fall to the ground, leaving the headless SCP-3284-1 behind. While moving towards its target, SCP-3284 does not appear to be slowed down by any obstacles and will disintegrate anything in its path. If the SCP-3284-1 somehow loses consciousness or dies before SCP-3284 finishes its glowing period, SCP-3284 will immediately stop glowing and will not attack its target, allowing SCP-3284-1 to be safely removed from a distance and properly contained. Any non-human living organism approaching SCP-3284 has not resulted in any response, suggesting the entity only attacks human subjects.
SCP-3284 has proven to be invulnerable to any physical damage and always remains in a slightly scratched state, despite efforts to crush, incinerate and dissolve the anomaly. The interior of SCP-3284 has been observed to be completely empty until provoked, upon which the inside of the cone will appear to be filled with an extremely hot plasma-like substance that incinerates anything that touches it.
Addendum 3284-A: Recovery of the Object
SCP-3284 appeared submerged 1 foot into the snow to the side of a road leading to Site ██ on February 2, 1999. No caution was taken until the cone was observed attacking Dr. Jean Gonzalez while driving to the site. CCTV footage shows SCP-3284 breaking through the back windshield of Dr. Gonzalez’s vehicle and incinerating his head, causing the vehicle to crash into the concrete wall of a building to the side of the road. Attempts to retrieve SCP-3284 resulted in three minor casualties before the object was safely removed from the wreckage via helicopter and contained at Site ██.
Addendum 3284-B: Research Logs
Research Log 3284-1 - 2/15/1999 (Dr. M. Carter)
Subject: D-30367 (male, 22)
Procedure: Subject was introduced to SCP-3284’s containment chamber and instructed to unlock the padlocks containing it using keys given by MTF unit Lime-1.
Results: As expected, SCP-3284 began to glow and shake violently before mounting the subject’s head and incinerating it. The keys D-30367 used to unlock the padlocks were retrieved by a remotely controlled robot, as well as D-30367’s body. SCP-3284 was recontained during this process by another robot.
Analysis: SCP-3284-1’s corpse appeared to be untouched aside from a blackened stub at the base of the neck. No traces or remnants of SCP-3284-1’s head were found at the scene, suggesting it was still inside SCP-3284.
Research Log 3284-2 - 2/16/1999 (Dr. M. Carter)
Subject: 2 year old male canine (husky)
Procedure: A remotely controlled robot unlocked the padlocks and removed SCP-3284 from its metal container and placed on the ground. Subject was then introduced to the object and was encouraged to approach using one of MTF unit Lime-1’s scope lasers pointed at the cone.
Results: The subject approached SCP-3284 curiously. SCP-3284 did not react to the dog at all, even after the dog began to sniff and prod the cone. The subject was removed, and SCP-3284 was remotely contained.
Analysis: No signs of damage or otherwise unusual effects were observed from the dog after being retrieved. So far, SCP-3284 has only been provoked by humans.
Research Log 3284-3 - 2/18/1999 (Dr. M. Carter)
Subject: Two (2) D-Class personnel, D-31255 (male, 41) and D-33490 (female, 29)
Procedure: D-31255 was introduced to SCP-3284’s containment chamber and instructed to unlock it using keys and enter the chamber while D-33490 observed from a safe distance.
Results: As expected, SCP-3284 entered its “provoked” stage before incinerating D-31255’s head.
Analysis: D-33490 was rendered completely blind from the intense light emitted by SCP-3284 during its provoked stage, stating that “it was like she was next to the sun”. Second degree burns were also observed on all areas of exposed skin in direct view of the anomaly. Subject was exterminated shortly thereafter.
Research Log 3284-4 - 2/19/1999 (Dr. M. Carter)
Subject: D-35506 (male, 30)
Procedure: Subject was rendered unconscious before being lowered into the container. Subject was then forced awake via ammonia.
Results: SCP-3284 showed no reaction to the unconscious subject. Upon the subject waking up, SCP-3284 attacked them like normal.
Analysis: Unconscious subjects do not appear to be targeted.
Research Log 3284-5 - 2/20/1999 (Dr. M. Carter)
Subject: D-28910 (male, 36)
Procedure: Subject was equipped with a device capable of administering an electric shock to the brain to knock them unconscious. Subject was then instructed to enter SCP-3284’s container, and was knocked unconscious immediately after SCP-3284 showed signs of being provoked.
Results: All went as expected until the subject was rendered unconscious, upon which SCP-3284 stopped glowing and began to emit a thick, black smoke. The unconscious SCP-3284-1 was safely removed from the containment cell. We are now going to wake up the subject.
Research Log 3284-5-2 - 2/20/1999 (Dr. P. Mondal)
Analysis: Upon waking up SCP-3284-1, SCP-3284 managed to breach through its container and flew on a direct path to SCP-3284-1, burning through everything in its path, and vaporizing SCP-3284-1 immediately upon impact. It is currently on a rampage throughout the facility, and we are evacuating as quickly as possible. At least ten casualties have occurred, including Dr. Carter and two of his assistants. This is one of the largest breaches in Site ██’s history.
Update 1: Somehow, SCP-3284 managed to get half a mile from the facility and is in the process of being recontained. At least 20 deaths have occurred so far, and at least one bystander was observed to be attacked. It is still unknown how or why SCP-3284 breached its containment.
Update 2: After taking three more lives, SCP-3284 has been successfully recontained. Testing will halt until further notice.
