Lutetium

Item #: SCP-4000

Object class: Safe

Special containment procedures: Since SCP-4000 is not able to move at all and only becomes dangerous once in a month, it is to be held inside a glassbox with a bottom of concentrated osmium1. Everyone is allowed to look at it, but noone is allowed to touch it (unless he/she wants to suffer from third-degree burns). Every last week inthe moth, it is to be set inside a box of concentrated osmium to keep the boiling Lutetium inside. The safety box is to be changed when SCP-4000 grows too big.

Description: SCP-4000 is a knot of golden pipes with a diameter of 2-20 cm. Inside these pipes flows a stream of modified and boiling2 Lutetium (periodic number: 71). Modified in a way, that if it comes in contact with Oxygen (periodic number: 8), the atoms melt together and form Aurum (gold (periodic number: 79))34. That Aurum then stiffens and forms the pipes, wherein the Lutetium flows. When a hole appears in the pipe, the Lutetium is elevated out, mixed with the Oxgen of the air and laid upon the damage.
SCP-4000 got used to holes appearing from time to time and modified the Lutetium even more. It is (approximately since its creation) also able to reproduce itself. Once every month, it has dublicated itself and the pipes burst open at several spots under the pressure. When the Lutetium connects with the air, the outer atoms turn into gold, while the inner atoms stay in their original form. The new pipes are functional without the need of further preparation.

Happening 4000-A

Date: ██. August 20██

Position: Prof. Dr. Stone´s Office, site ██

Observation leader: Prof. Dr. Stone

Notes: As expected, SCP-4000 burst open. But this time, all the pipes were
torn open over the whole length. The Lutetium stiffened in a position, that
made all the pipes a bit wider, but did not create new pipes.

I was so busy preparing for the “Happy New Year” party, that I completely
forgot to put SCP-4000 into its box!!! Now it exploded all over the office and
burned massive holes in the floor and the furnish!
I think, I´ll let the class-D personnel do the work for me. My christmas
present for them: handling an SCP without dying. Pretty good, huh?
