Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be held in standard individual high-security humanoid containment chambers at Site-███. SCP-XXXX-1 instances are permitted contact with one another, under strict observation. These chambers are to be soundproofed, and instances must not, under any circumstances, come into contact with each other or any unaffected persons that are not rated for Category-3 Category-2 cognitohazard resistance or higher. If at any time anyone, foundation personnel or otherwise, are heard uttering Phrase XXXX, they and anyone remotely considered to be capable of hearing them are from that point onward considered to be instances of SCP-XXXX-1. If at any time anyone, foundation personnel or otherwise, are found to have recorded Phrase XXXX in any way, verbal, written, coded, or otherwise, they are to be considered an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Any persons who were exposed to such a recording or inscription in any way are also considered to be affected. Knowledge of the effects of SCP-XXXX are not to be disseminated at any time to persons not rated for Category-3 Category-2 Cognitohazard resistance or higher. Site-███ is not to be manned by any more than 12 2 Category-3 Category-2 rated cognitohazard-resistant personnel at any time, currently Doctor Grumman and Agent Filibuster. Personnel manning Site-███ must complete a bi-hourly evaluation for signs of affliction by SCP-XXXX; should they fail to complete this evaluation or produce any abnormal results, they are to be immediately removed from duty, reclassified, and moved into containment. Personnel manning Site-███ are to be given no access to no communication technology that would allow them to contact the outside world, and all orders and reassignments must be delivered by drone. Under no circumstances should orders to terminate any instance of SCP-XXXX-1 be carried out, and anyone found drafting or issuing such orders are to be considered an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Foundation Webcrawlers XXXX-A through XXXX-F are tasked with scouring the internet for any signs of SCP-XXXX, Phrase XXXX, or instances of SCP-XXXX-1. Should any such signs be found, they are to be immediately taken down, analyzed, and subsequently quarantined in Site-███’s secure database. Persons responsible for their presence online are to be considered an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Recovery and containment efforts instances are to be handled exclusively by MTF Tau-11( “Rag’n’Bone Men”)¹. Foundation Webcrawlers XXXX-A through XXXX-F are to undergo routine examinations of their code by a Category-3 Category-2 rated cognitohazard-resistant technician, as is every component of MTF Tau-11. Should any sign of Phrase XXXX or any other SCP-XXXX associated materials be found within the source code of either, it must be immediately reported, analysed, and subsequently quarantined, and the technician must be subjected to a bi-hourly evaluation for signs of affliction by SCP-XXXX². Under no circumstances should any electronic or written data containing Phrase XXXX be purged, deleted, expunged, or destroyed. Partial deconstruction for the purpose of analysis is permissible with level 4 clearance, but component parts of deconstructed instances of Phrase XXXX must be transferred to Site-███’s secure database immediately upon completion of research. Anyone requesting to deconstruct or personally analyze Phrase XXXX must first complete the standard evaluation for signs of affliction, and must subsequently complete it bi-hourly, indefinitely. Efforts as to finding the source of spontaneous emergence of new instances of Phrase XXXX are ongoing, but have hitherto proven unsuccessful.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a cognitohazard associated with the anomalous omnilingual syntax fragment designated as Phrase XXXX. Phrase XXXX will sound to any listener as if it were being spoken in the native language with which they are most familiar, and when written, recorded, or otherwise inscribed, will exhibit similar properties. When deconstructed or observed through cognitohazard-scrambling means, however, Phrase XXXX will conversely be utterly incomprehensible to any who hear or are otherwise exposed to it, and will exhibit none of its anomalous effects. The meaning and structure of Phrase XXXX can vary between affected persons, but it is most commonly translated as “It’s Hunting Us,” or its equivalent.

SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effects begin to manifest anywhere between 5-300 seconds after exposure to Phrase XXXX. Any person exposed to Phrase XXXX, henceforth referred to as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1, exhibits extreme aggression toward the ‘source’, most commonly another person, and will begin attempting to neutralize, kill, or destroy said source. During this period, it will also demonstrate signs of fear and panic, berating both the source of Phrase XXXX, apparently for exposing it, and also itself, for allowing its own exposure. This behavior can vary; however knowledge of the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX does not serve to curb them, and in some cases can exacerbate or accelerate the progression of said effects (See Incident Report XXXX-Charlie for details). Once the ‘source’ has been neutralized, killed, or destroyed, or alternatively removed from the instance for over an hour, the SCP-XXXX-1 instance will begin to appear to calm down and enter a state of depression and/or remorse. It will remain in this state indefinitely, until exposed to either an unaffected person or another instance of SCP-XXXX-1. If approached by or simply given access to an unaffected person, it will attempt to initiate a conversation, in which it will begin recounting the story of its exposure to Phrase XXXX in meticulous detail. Throughout this process, the SCP-XXXX-1 instance will interject with frequent expressions of remorse or sorrow, even if previously it exhibited an inability to feel such emotions. Inevitably, the instance’s account of events will approach the exact moment of its own exposure, at which point it will attempt to expose any persons they are aware of to Phrase XXXX. If no unaffected persons are available, an affected individual will attempt to put itself in a position so as to converse with one or multiple. Such efforts will most commonly be associated with a desire to ‘warn’ others, but variations between different affected persons have been observed. If asked about the subject of such a ‘warning,’ or if another pertinent question is posed, SCP-XXXX-1 instances will immediately attempt to expose anyone available to Phrase XXXX.

If SCP-XXXX-1 attempts to expose others to Phrase XXXX, and proves unsuccessful, it will attempt to expose them through other methods until it eventually succeeds. See testing logs for details³.

When allowed to associate with other instances, SCP-XXXX-1 will temporarily exit its depressive state. With other instances, it will discuss the need to ‘warn’ others about an unspecified entity, and will act and speak in a manner reminiscent of its personality prior to Phrase XXXX exposure. SCP-XXXX-1 instances demonstrate no capacity to overcome typical language barriers outside of use of Phrase XXXX. Descriptions of the aforementioned entity will be vague and unspecific, but it is always referred to as highly aggressive and intelligent. Instances will recount the events leading up to and following their own exposure. During such events, Phrase XXXX will be uttered between the instances several times as part of normal conversation, but unless unaffected people are exposed, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will not undergo an anomalous response to the phrase. Individual intellectual ability of SCP-XXXX-1 instances varies greatly, but appears to be connected to pre-exposure cognitive ability. After prolonged periods of time spent in conversation, SCP-XXXX-1 instances will begin to piece together a rudimentary understanding of the effects of SCP-XXXX, and will begin suggesting and discussing solutions to the entity that they perceive to be behind such effects. Such solutions often follow standard logic, and are thus frequently erroneous. In addition, the agreed upon solution will always coincide with the need to ‘warn’ more people, in some cases explicitly referred to as exposing them to Phrase XXXX. Following this, [DATA QUARANTINED]

SCP-XXXX has demonstrated a limited capacity to affect nonhuman entities, with greater efficacy based on their proximity to the human baseline. Research into this is ongoing suspended indefinitely.

In addition to spreading via existing XXXX-1 instances, new ‘root’ manifestations of Phrase XXXX are detected by all foundation sources at a rate of 15.4 per year. The number of these detections that are online versus written versus verbal varies. Since its discovery, this number has been rising sporadically, most notably after the events of Incident XXXX-Charlie, and Incident XXXX-Hotel⁴.

There are currently 1305 instances of SCP-XXXX-1 contained at Site-███.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first identified in 19██ after reports of mass friendly fire were filed by Major ██████ of the United States Army. Foundation operatives were dispatched to █████ ███, Vietnam, and after two weeks and an estimated loss and/or affliction of ██ personnel, were able to contain all suspected instances. Site-███ was established shortly after once the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX were determined.

XXXX-4	One(1) Instance of SCP-XXXX-1, designated SCP-XXXX-1-H; One(1) D-class personnel, designated D-19340, having undergone surgeries to remove audio-visual nervous systems as well as sufficient electrotherapy as to render any and all touch receptors inoperable	SCP-XXXX-1-H underwent normal response to locating an unaffected person, but stopped approximately 2 minutes into its ‘story.’ It then became quiet and reserved, appearing to ‘study’ D-19340, repeatedly attempting to achieve a response via touch, speech, and visual stimuli. Notably, such behavior did not, as in other tests, fall in line with SCP-XXXX-1-H’s known pre-exposure personality. Following approximately 17 minutes of such ‘analytical’ behavior, SCP-XXXX-1-H abruptly began emulating the effects of an acute epileptic seizure, before a clear, brown-tinted fluid began to leak from its eyes, ears, mouth, nostrils, and [DATA QUARANTINED]. D-19340 appeared to respond to the odor of this fluid, vocalizing violently (albeit incoherently) and tracing its scent to SCP-XXXX-1-H’s prone form. D-19340 then proceeded to forcefully stomp on SCP-XXXX-1-H’s head ██ times, after which SCP-XXXX-1-H was terminated. D-19340 then entered the depressive state typical of a newly exposed instance of SCP-XXXX-1. The fluid secreted by SCP-XXXX-1-H began to rapidly vaporize, resulting in the exposure of █ researchers to what was later identified to be a chemical equivalent to Phrase XXXX, detectable by the olfactory system. All exposed persons reclassified and moved into containment.	Good god. I’m pulling any personnel that aren’t cleared for at least Cat 3 cognitohazards immediately, and making all test chambers vacuum sealed from here on out. In fact, let’s vacuum-seal the 01 containment area too. From what we found, that chemical -H started oozing is only specifically some kind of scent marker, but we can’t risk something like that getting out again. We’re lucky it didn’t spread any farther. XXXX-9	One(1) instance of SCP-XXXX-1, designated SCP-XXXX-1-L; One(1) D-class personnel, designated D-19387, having had all known sensory organs, including visual, auditory, touch, olfactory/gustatory, and vestibular, disabled via surgical means. At the time of testing, D-19387 was in a catatonic state as a result of long term, complete sensory deprivation.	SCP-XXXX-1-L began the standard behavior pattern, but ceased after 10 seconds before expressing exasperation. It is again notable that, prior to Phrase XXXX exposure, SCP-XXXX-1-L was known for being long-suffering and amiable. After less than one minute of expressing exasperation, SCP-XXXX-1-L’s skull began to [DATA QUARANTINED] massive tissue damage to both D-19387 and SCP-XXXX-1-L. D-19387 then temporarily became active, strangling SCP-XXXX-1-L before returning to its catatonic state. D-19387 has been reclassified as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 and moved into containment.	I don’t even know how to begin to describe what the hell that was. Our research team, after first requesting extensive psychological counseling (granted, provided they disclose nothing about SCP-XXXX’s actual anomalous effects, we’re not telling anybody about this thing if we don’t need to. Fuck.) has determined that it was most likely an attempt to communicate Phrase XXXX to 19387’s body by triggering its trauma response in a specific pattern. We’ve got no way of knowing whether that worked for sure, since that stranglehold is the only time ‘87 has moved in months, but I’m moving her into containment just to be safe. As for further testing, we’re doing one more, and then I’m suspending testing indefinitely. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that whatever the hell this thing is, by doing all these tests, we’re helping it learn. And frankly, fuck that entirely. -Dr. Northrop

25 instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are seated at a large table within the common area of containment zone 4, discussing ways to combat the entity they associate with the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX. Most instances have half-finished or mostly eaten meals on the tables in front of them, but have ceased consumption in favor of conversation. Behavior patterns are normal and generally compliant with the pre-exposure personalities of each individual instance, aside from their main topic of conversation being the entity.

“So, he turns to me, and he says ‘Zeke, I think that deer talked to me, man.’” Speaking is the instance designated SCP-XXXX-1-K. “And obviously I’m like ‘Cletus, calm down, put the gun down it’s fine.’ But he’s shaking like a leaf in a hurricane, you know how it is. Man just shot a doe and he’s quaking. He says ‘It talked to me. It was tryin’ to warn me. I didn’t wanna hurt her, but then she said it and I… well I saw it, y’know?’ So I got no clue what he’s on about. But then he’s like ‘It’s Hunting Us’ and before I knew it, bam, he’s dead, and there’s a shell missin out my Remi. Damn sha-” The instances are interrupted by the sound of a vacuum-sealed lock opening. The doors on the eastern side of the common area, which leads to a non-containment clean room connected to the main compound of the site, open to reveal a woman clad in standard Foundation site security personnel gear. She wears a kevlar vest over a full NBCA suit (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, Anomalous) and a patch on her left lapel reads ‘A. Gutierrez’. Just below it is a standard Category 3 Cognitohazard Resistance Certification placard. Gutierrez immediately raises her automatic weapon into a firing position. All present instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are silent and appear shocked.

“Don’t you say it.” Says Gutierrez. “Don’t any of you fuckin’ say it.”

SCP-XXXX-1-K Raises his hands, and the surrounding instances follow suit.

“Ma’am. I need you to calm down. It-”

Gutierrez immediately opens fire on the crowd, killing 17 of the instances in the common area within the initial volley. The remaining entities try to flee, but are gunned down in a secondary salvo. Gutierrez begins to exhibit signs of affliction by SCP-XXXX⁶. She collapses, slumped against the doors, frantically moving her keycard up to open them.

“Fuck. Fuck fuck. I gotta tell somebody. Gotta warn them. Shit. Fuck. Aneda, you dumb bitch. Fuck.” At this time, Agent Gutierrez removes her helmet and gloves and rubs her eyes as the vacuum-sealed locks open once more.

Agent Gutierrez is seen staggering down a corridor connecting containment zone 4 with the southeastern security barracks. Her helmet is still removed, and she is holding her weapon loosely in one hand. She appears shaken.

“Fuck. Fuck.”

A drone operated by MTF Tau-11 turns the corner and detects Agent Gutierrez. It scans her for signs of SCP-XXXX affliction and, finding sufficient data to confirm a positive reading, begins to approach her.

“Please stay calm. You are slated for immediate reclassification and containment. There is no need to panic. Ther-” The drone is destroyed as Gutierrez fires her weapon into its chassis repeatedly.

“Fuck you. Fuck that. They need to KNOW. Something’s in there. It’s hunting us. It fucking KNOWS.

Agents Corellon and Omar⁷ are gearing up in the Security Barracks as they prepare to respond to a breach in containment area 4. Both have CRE Category 3 placards, but are nonetheless equipping foundation-grade SCRAMBLE gear.

“Any clue what’s going on?” Omar says, calibrating their goggles.

“No. Just hope Aneda’s okay. Heard she was in charge of monitoring 4 today.” Replies Corellon, snapping shut the fasteners on his kevlar-reinforced gloves.

“Yeah, 11 people to a site this huge really doesn’t feel like enough, man. We never see each other, and if there’s ever a breach we gotta run like two whole miles to get anywhere.” Omar squares their shoulders and prepares to leave, triple-checking the firing pins on their weapon.

“Well, they got the Tau-11 eggheads, but they’re not physically here, and frankly I’m starting to think they might not even exist-” Corellon is interrupted by the sound of the barracks’ door opening off-camera. He and Omar turn to look at the source, and immediately rush toward it, leaving frame.

“Holy shit. Aneda, are you alright?” Omar’s voice is fraught with worry. Muttered speech can be heard coming from an unknown party, presumably Agent Gutierrez.

“Wait, wait, Alex, back the fuck up.” Corellon’s voice is anxious, bordering on total panic.

“Larry, you don’t think-”

“I said back the fuck up, Omar.”

Both Corellon and Omar slowly step back into camera frame, weapons raised. There is a short outburst of gunfire.

“It fuckin’ got her.” Omar says, quietly.

“Yeah. We gotta warn Northrop.”

“Oh my god, Larry, we killed Aneda. We fucking killed her. What if she was fine? Oh my god.”
Agents Omar and Corellon are seen stepping through a hallway leading toward the central control room. The floor is decorated by the bullet-ridden corpses of several drones operated by MTF Tau-11.

“Just keep it together, Alex.” Corellon’s helmet has been removed, and tear streaks are visible on his cheeks. “We have a job to do.”

“How the hell did it get into the robots? Aren’t they supposed to be immune to that shit?” Omar asks, burying their mask in their gloved hands.

“I have no idea. All we know is that it’s hunting us. And it keeps getting smarter. Damn thing. But we can beat it. We just gotta keep it from spreading. Kill anything that tries to expose us. Warn the rest. We can do this.” Corellon’s voice is audibly shaking.

“Larry, wait.” Omar’s voice is soft, almost deadly calm.

“If it’s in the bot’s, who’s to say it’s not in the cameras? The intercom?”

“Yeah, why the hell do you think we’re heading to central? We have to make sure Jenkins isn’t compromised.”

Communications Expert Agent Margaret Jenkins⁸ is braced against the wall directly adjacent to the doors leading into the central command center of Site-███. In her left hand she holds a four-inch combat knife, and in her right, a standard-issue Foundation 9mm pistol. Her breathing is slow and measured, but she nonetheless appears apprehensive.

The doors begin to open, and she goes completely still.

Agents Omar and Corellon enter the room, and she wheels on them immediately. She cuts Omar’s throat and fires four rounds into Corellon’s head.

“Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” Jenkins begins to recite the entirety of the traditional christian rite, moving over to the main command console. Phrase XXXX, presumably a fragmented version of it given its utter unintelligibility, flashes on the screen and can be heard echoing throughout the facility’s intercom before all video and audio footage cuts out.

Casualty Report: 9 Foundation agents pronounced KIA. 2 Foundation Agents Reclassified as instances of SCP-XXXX-1. ██ foundation personnel reclassified after receiving correspondence from Site-███ tainted with Phrase XXXX. $██ million worth of MTF Tau-11 assets were lost in the incident, and █ members of MTF Tau-11 itself were exposed to Phrase XXXX and reclassified when attempting repairs on damaged assets. ███ instances of SCP-XXXX-1 found dead. Dr. Heinz Northrop determined to be the only survivor later reclassified as an instance of SCP-XXXX-1.
Recontainment Information: MTF Tau-11 dispatched heavier assets from Site ██ as soon as the Breach alarm was logged. Upon arrival, security staff were found dead of various causes, as were ███ SCP-XXXX-1 instances. Recontainment was ultimately successful, but sweeping changes to the operational procedures of Site-███ were drafted immediately following the incident.

Following Incident XXXX-Charlie:
Under no circumstances are any personnel, D-class, security, doctor, or even SCP-XXXX-1 instances, to make any kind of contact with any instance of SCP-XXXX-1 or Phrase XXXX.
SCP-XXXX-1 will no longer be allowed to interact with one another.
The total staff operating Site-███ will be reduced to two; One(1) researcher and One(1) member of MTF Tau-11’s field operative’s division.
Termination of any instance of SCP-XXXX-1 is not to be carried out under any circumstances. Anyone suggesting such terminations is thereby considered to be an instance of SCP-XXXX-1.
Frequency in examinations of all equipment and personnel assigned to Site-███ is to be increased greatly. Any equipment damaged within the containment area of an SCP-XXXX-1 instance or SCP-XXXX-1 in general is to be considered lost and slated for immediate self-destruction.
Class-B amnestics are to be administered to any personnel knowledgeable of SCP-XXXX’s effects that are not directly involved in its containment. Re-emergence of this knowledge, or increases in it, are to be taken as signs of possible affliction by SCP-XXXX.
Following Incident XXXX-Golf:
Any and all materials written or altered by Dr. Heinz Northrop after June 18, 20██ are to be screened, deconstructed, analyzed, and their cognitohazardous components quarantined in Site-███’s secure database.
Following Incident XXXX-Hotel:
Under no circumstances are any data containing Phrase XXXX or any of its component parts to be deleted, purged, or otherwise erased.
Backup generators on Site-███ are to have two additional layers of redundancy.
