Item #: SCP-XXXX "The Book That Has OCD"
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained at all times within an office space precisely 3 meters in all dimensions, sitting closed in the center of the oaken desk within and fastened to it with leather straps. The office is to look exactly as one would for a researcher under SCP Foundation employ, and all items must be fastened, bolted, or otherwise rendered unable to move or be moved. Under no circumstances should SCP-XXXX or any item in its containment area be interacted with physically or otherwise moved without express permission from the Site Director and consent from SCP-XXXX. The only personnel exempt from this are specially-trained cleaning staff, designated XXXX-SC.
Every seven days, personnel with exception to members of XXXX-SC must remain at minimum 20 meters away from SCP-XXXX's containment area to allow XXXX-SC to clean the subject's room. In addition, all personnel onsite are required to wear ear protection with a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) value of at least 70% during this time or when tests are being conducted involving SCP-XXXX. Personnel found in violation of these regulations will be reprimanded, and continued disobedience will see personnel transferred to a different site.
Access to SCP-XXXX's room requires direct authorization from the Site Director, and tests must be scheduled, at minimum, one week in advance to allow personnel time to prepare in the event of an SCP-XXXX Activation Event.
Personnel conducting tests or interviews involving SCP-XXXX must have their appearance vetted by previously designated personnel for neatness, symmetry, and coordination. Failure to meet parameters will result in the test being postponed until those parameters are met. Failure to meet parameters yet continuing with testing will result in an SCP-XXXX Activation Event. During these tests, personnel may be authorized to remove the straps keeping SCP-XXXX fastened to the desk.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a leather-bound book in pristine condition with precisely 222 papyrus pages trimmed with gold leaf. Radiocarbon dating has proven impossible due to SCP-XXXX's properties preventing researchers from interacting with it to that extent. Despite this, interviews conducted with the entity revealed it was, at one time, stored in the Great Library of Alexandria. It has also been in the possession of Julius Caesar, Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, Thomas Jefferson, Napoleon Bonaparte, Karl Marx, and Ronald Reagan.
Through circumstances it did not elaborate on, SCP-XXXX eventually found itself in a bookstore in ██████████, England. Following reports of an unidentifiable scream causing hearing loss and permanent hearing damage in the local area, a field team was dispatched and the source eventually identified to be the entity in question. SCP-XXXX was reported to have been screaming at 155 decibels (dB). Attempts to communicate with the entity resulted in the scream stopping and it falling off of its shelf on its own accord. The entity then opened itself and proceeded to communicate with the field team through words appearing on its pages.
It was convinced to enter SCP Foundation custody and be contained at the closest site, Site-███. Tests and interviews conducted since have revealed the entity is capable of moving itself by manipulating its covers and pages. It communicates through words appearing on its pages and shows complete sentience.
SCP-XXXX has been shown to express extreme discomfort when in the presence of untidiness, asymmetry, or environments that can be described as "chaotic" or "disorganized." If exposed to these environments or entities exhibiting these traits for more than 2 minutes, SCP-XXXX will scream at precisely 155 dB until either the entity leaves or the environment is returned to a satisfactory state. Attempts to open or move SCP-XXXX without its consent or attempting to damage it in any way yield the same result.
Addendum XXXX-A: Following seismic activity in the area of Site-███, leather straps have been fastened over SCP-XXXX and to the desk to prevent unforeseen Activation Events. All objects in the room have been otherwise bolted, fastened, or rendered immobile as well. SCP-XXXX's Special Containment Procedures have been updated to account for these discoveries.
Addendum XXXX-B: It has come to light that every word spoken to SCP-XXXX has been recorded within the entity's pages, including all information of the SCP Foundation and its previous owners revealed to it. When questioned, SCP-XXXX revealed that older information was overwritten over time and replaced with more current information. Researchers tasked with looking at the last page of the entity learned that all information of its previous owners has been overwritten by either sentences picked up by civilians in the bookstore or interviews conducted by SCP Foundation personnel. Until further notice, no information is to be shared with SCP-XXXX regarding the SCP Foundation, Foundation personnel, or other anomalous entities in the Foundation's custody to prevent information from leaking out in the event of a containment breach.
