Disjoin or detach!
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
[Updated] Special Containment Procedures: SCP- XXXX is to be contained within a locked container in Site-17 The room is to not contain any power outlet of any kind, apart from specified outlets provided by the foundation. Staff with level 2 or higher clearance are allowed access to the entity. Staff are not to bring any electrical appliances or devices of any kind apart from specified and approved foundation appliances into the entities containment area, outside of foundation authorized tests. The containment zone containing SCP- XXXX is to be run on a separate power grid. The containment zone for SCP- XXXX is to have a sprinkler system installed, and is only to be used in emergencies and lockdown procedures.
Description: SCP- XXXX is an extension cord with a cord 1m in length and 8 plug outlets. On the underside there is written in black permanent marker: “Disjoin or detach!” The entity is made of a generic plastic and a rubber power cord. The manufacturer is not indicated. SCP- XXXX itself cannot be harmed or damaged. All attempts to damage the entity have yielded no results. However all recorded instances of SCP- XXXX-1 have shown no such attributes of indestructibility. Attempts to open the entity have yielded no results due to the fact that there is no obvious way to open the entity, as there are no screws or seams of any kind. However attempts to see inside using X-Rays have shown no abnormalities in its construction.
SCP- XXXX is considered to be self aware and intelligent. The entity is fully capable of movement and acting with intent. If an electronic device is plugged into SCP- XXXX it will become SCP- XXXX-1, a literal extension of itself, capable of movement and having extensions of their own. Subsequently any instances of SCP- XXXX-1 that are then unplugged, such that they do not have a connection to SCP- XXXX directly or through other extensions, revert back to their original non anomalous state. The entities observed method of attack is to strangle or crush its victim.
Initial containment: SCP- XXXX was first reported in XX/XX/XXXX at a small electronics store in the town of [Data expunged]. After the death of a civilan. The SCP made an attempt to escape, in the form of a large hexapod made out of the devices found in the store. Mainly cables of various sorts. Its reported size was 2.5m tall and 3m in diameter. It ran 4.7km out of the town at an estimated speed of 24kmh. Its capture was successful through the destruction of all instances of CSP- XXXX-1 connected to it, via incineration.
Test Logs:
Test log #1-[Behavior]
SCP- XXXXs behavior is intelligent. SCP-XXXX has an awareness of its surroundings up to a distance of 10m from itself or any of its extensions. The entity is capable of movement similar to a snakes, when unplugged from all devices. The entity changes its behavior based on its conditions. After being left alone by itself in its containment chamber for extended periods, it pretends to be a regular extension cord. When allowed to have multiple extensions while in captivity, its behavior changes to a more aggressive attitude similar to a caged wild animal. Any attempt to unplug any instances of SCP- XXXX -1 from SCP- XXXX are met with a violent response from the entity.
Test log #2-[Strength and speed]
The strength and speed of the entity is very high, capable of lifting over 90 kilograms on its own. Observation shows that the adding of instances of SCP-XXXX-1 does increase its overall capable lifting capacity and speed.
Test log #3-[Exposure tests]
Experimenting with exposure to water has shown, that it has a significant effect on the entities speed and strength, reducing it by an estimated 70%. While not enough to contain the entity entirely, is has a significant enough effect on the entity to warrant incorporating a sprinkler system into the containment area and lockdown procedure.
Test log #4-[Creation of SCP-XXXX-1]
Based on our findings we believe that the SCP- XXXX can only connect physically to other devices in ways that were intended i.e not through exposed wires or other methods. SCP-XXXX will not attempt to connect to an electrical device it does not have the correct corresponding plug to. Leading us to believe that the method of extension is based on intentional plug compatibility.
Test log #5-[SCP-XXXX-1 function]
Functionally, all devices connected to the entity are used as extra limbs rather than their usual function, however in some cases their original uses are displayed by the entity, such as electric saws, cutting tools and other various dangerous appliances. Plugged in devices do not appear to be dependent on electricity.
Test log #ø-[Containment breach]
Based on the revised footage of the containment breach it is concluded that if SCP-XXXX was connected to a large power grid the entity would be capable of controlling all devices connected to it, no matter the size of the power grid or how many devices are connected to it. [Due to the recent containment breach all scheduled tests on SCP-XXXX have been suspended and are to be rescheduled at a later date.
Containment breach: On 9/5/20## SCP- XXXXs containment was breached due to unforeseen capabilities. The entity overpowered the D-class personnel and the security guards during a scheduled test on the nature of SCP- XXXX. SCP-XXXX then plugged into a power outlet in the wall of the test chamber, thus causing all devices plugged into the main power grid to become instances of SCP- XXXX-1. Security did not become aware of the scale at which SCP-XXXX had control over the facility until SCP-XXXX showed its capability of opening a large number of electrically controlled doors and shutting off all lights in the facility connected to the power grid it had accessed. Recapture of the entity was only possible through the quick response of security. Alongside that SCP- XXXX was not capable of great mobility during its escape due to it being in its base form once it unplugged from the wall outlet, and due to exposure to water through the installed sprinkler system which was activated when lockdown procedures came into effect.
Addendum: 20/5/20XX Ing.XXXXX “Due to a recent containment breach we have updated the special containment procedures to not allow SCP- XXXX access to any areas outside of its own secure container, which will now be on its own separate power grid. To avoid unexpected surprises we have designed new power outlets and equipment to be used in the entities containment zone for specialized foundation equipment use only, and which the entity is incapable of using.”
