SCP-XXXX found on its native island of Ōkunoshima
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be contained in an artificial pond biome contained in site-██. A minimum of one facility personnel member is to remain on-site at all times, to ensure the welfare of SCP-XXXX. Any noticeable needs required by SCP-XXXX are to be delivered to ensure SCP-XXXX's welfare to prevent harm caused to SCP-XXXX which will make future testing more difficult.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a Japanese colony of rabbits on the island of Ōkunoshima which descended from rabbits used for chemical weapon testing on the island around 19██. Descendants of those rabbits have developed the ability to separate the molecular structure of water in order to be able to consume necessary amounts of oxygen to survive underwater.
SCP-XXXX resembles their non anomalous counterparts on the island, with no visible difference being found besides their anomalous ability to breathe underwater. SCP-XXXX has the same diet as its non anomalous counterpart, the Oryctolagus cuniculus.
Upon closer examination of SCP-XXXX, no clear explanation for how SCP-XXXX is able to separate the water molecules in order to obtain oxygen can be procured. An autopsy has revealed no difference between SCP-XXXX and other native rabbits of Ōkunoshima structurally.
SCP-XXXX tend to have a condition similar to that of an autoimmune disease, usually succumbing to infection after receiving any sort of open wound. SCP-XXXX also tends to require a smaller caloric intake than its non-anomalous counterparts on the island, no clear explanation has been found for this.
