Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept on the person of SCP-XXXX-1. If SCP-XXXX-1 is terminated, SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a book storage locker at Site-XX. Any researchers aside from SCP-XXXX-1 are to handle SCP-XXXX using standard hand protection.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a black leather-bound book, with the words "Black Book" embossed in silver on the front cover. The object is capable of changing into various other books at Dr Ziegler's discretion, henceforth designated as SCP-XXXX-11. The pages are size B5, and body text is always in 11 point Times New Roman, no matter the current size or cover of the object.
The content of SCP-XXXX is variable. The object is capable of replicating texts, a non-comprehensive list of which are recorded in Document XXXX-a. This mechanism is independent to the cover the object has adopted. SCP-XXXX is also capable of communication, and is aware of its surroundings to some degree. The object is able to express feelings of pain, heat, and humidity, among other sensations. Existing text is changed to reflect the sentiments of the book. On rare occasions, SCP-XXXX has vocalised fluently, mostly in English. See Interview Log XXXX-X for details.
SCP-XXXX is unable to be separated more than 20 m from SCP-XXXX-1. Should separation occur, SCP-XXXX will instantly teleport to SCP-XXXX-1's location. Additionally, any damage done to SCP-XXXX will be instantly transferred to SCP-XXXX-1 instead. Notably, SCP-XXXX-1 recovers from transferred wounds at an abnormally rapid rate.
Should SCP-XXXX-1 be terminated, either by SCP-XXXX or other means, SCP-XXXX will enter a state of dormancy. In dormancy, the object will retain some anomalous properties. The text and cover will change once a week into a random text, some of which are not published books. Aside from text changes, the object does not act anomalously. It is currently unknown how the object responds to damage during dormancy. SCP-XXXX will reactivate upon being touched by a suitable SCP-XXXX-1 candidate. The mechanism for SCP-XXXX-1 selection is currently unknown. SCP-XXXX will not react to other SCP-XXXX-1 candidates if an SCP-XXXX-1 instance is already available.
SCP-XXXX has demonstrated sentience on various occasions. The object has the collective memories and consciousnesses of former SCP-XXXX-1 instances (hence designated SCP-XXXX-2). The consciousnesses are sometimes distinct, but are mostly amalgamated into a hive-mind. It is possible to communicate with individual SCP-XXXX-2 instances at will.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was originally owned by Dr Schrock in a dormant state. While anomalous, it was not of interest to the Foundation and was added into the log of anomalous objects. Upon being touched by Dr Ziegler, the object activated, allowing it to gain a SCP designation.
