Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: The property SCP-XXXX stands on has been seized by a front under the pretense of unpaid debts by YYYY.

SCP Legal is responding to legal action by the heirs of YYYY to regain the property. Stalling tactics are in progress until extralegal efforts can resolve the situation.

No fewer than three observers shall be present at all times when the active chamber of SCP-XXXX is in use.

The active chamber of SCP-XXXX shall be observed at least twice a day in order to prevent dangerous levels of matter degradation to build up.

Note: While short periods of non-existence have few lasting effects, extended periods increase the chances of genetic injury or a biologically non-viable condition. Therefore any personnel subject to greater than one minute cumulative non-existence in a six-month period will be subject to a full physical. This may be waived for D-Class personnel with authorization of the Ethics Committee.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a cylindrical building two stories tall and five stories deep. The bottom two stories consist of a large chamber accessable through an airlock. Objects in this chamber cease to exist when not observed. Several portholes allow observation from the floor above.

The process of non-existence takeas 5-30 seconds. A person cannot act as their own observer, but two people can observe each other. However, due to the risk of distraction causing a chain reaction of non-existence, it is advisable to have several observers in the chamber above as a failsafe.

When observation resumes, any objects or personnel that were removed from existence return. However, periods of non-existence can cause physical changes or degradation. These can be changes in temperature, physical state, or even atomic number. Short periods (less than thirty seconds) are not typically dangerous, as the amount of matter affected is on the order of several atoms or molecules. However, the greater the length of time, the more degradation occurs. After an extended period (defined as five minutes or longer), the degradation becomes observable. No human has maintained viable anatomy after 40 minutes (though see hypothesis XXXX-B).

Observation by or through a camera does not prevent non-existence. An on-scene observer is required. While no active observation occurs, light does not pass through the space, nor does sound. Cameras show a uniform grey color until observation resumes.

YYYY was an early expert in the field of paraphysics who worked for Prometheus Labs. Confiscated material from his labatory was foundational in the research of Dr. Robert Scranton and Dr. Cornelius Matson. YYYY vanished during the dissolution of the labs and the resulting loss of records.
