Item#: SCP-xxxxx
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXXX must be kept in a box and kept in isolation in a level X vault. Nothing capable of autonomous movement must be able to get to within 120 meters from SCP-xxxx.
Access to the room is forbidden. No further experiments are to be allowed.
Any living thing or machine that gets within 100 m from SCP-xxxx, is to be considered SCP-xxxx-x+1 and contained if living being or destroyed if machine.
Item#: SCP-xxxxx-1 SCP-xxxxx-12 SCP-xxxxx-3
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: They must be kept isolated from the outside world. Contact with each other is permitted. Contact with others must be strictly monitored and limited to the essential. Any mention of SCP-xxxxx must be reported and the persons involved placed under confinement.
Knowledge of SCP-xxxxx is to be considered an information hazard.
SCP-xxxx-y is to be given in care of Prof. Riviera, while SCP-xxx-yy is to be kept in Dr. Yang's office.
Description: A 40cm tall statue depicting a humanoid figure sitting with its arms around its legs and its head on its knees.
Its anomalous properties cause a distortion in perception of their health status in those affected, as well as attraction towards SCP-xxxxx.
Exposition affects living beings and non living constructs and produces primary and secondary effects.
Primary effects begin in the following cases:
-Being within the same enclosed space as the statue even if there are obstacles between the statue and the exposed subject;
-Being within line of sight of the statue without obstructions when not in an enclosed space;
-Seeing a live video feed of the statue.
Upper bound limits have not been found. Photographs produce no infection. Recorded videos prpduce no infection.
Humans have described a desire to move towards the statue and the awareness of its direction and distance.
Animals show behavior compatible with the humans' description, such as repeatedly attempting to move towards the statue and staring in its direction when movement is not possible.
Plants and mushrooms tend to grow in the direction of the statue.
Machines present malfunctions in their guidance system that causes them to move toward the location of the statue.
After being separated from the statue by more than 100 humans start reporting flu-like symptoms such a feeling of fever and joint pain which are not confirmed by independent measurements. Machines self diagnostic report high core temperature and malfunctions that do not match external measurements and actual performance.
Secondary effects begin with proximity to the statue. The upper bound limit is around 100 meters. They grow stronger as distance is reduced.
Testimony from affected humans describe the effects as feeling a sense of peacefulness and protection.
Multiple affected humans made comparisons to moments in their childhood when their mother comforted them while sick.
Machine self diagnostic tools report lower core temperature, fragmentation and energy consumption than what can be assessed with external measurements.
SCP-xxxxx-1 SCP-xxxxx-12 SCP-xxxxx-3 are human beings formerly employed by the organization.
SCP-xxxx-y is a 9 year old German shepherd. SCP-xxx-yy is a geranium plant.
Addendum: We present a brief timeline of events related to SCP-xxxxx
-In April 1987 a fishermen ship from Chile was reported missing.
-Two weeks later on April 27 a Chilean Coast guard team found it. They reported that the fishermen were alive and fish were throwing on their ship. They were invited on the ship. Shortly after contact with them was lost.
The Organization became aware of those events and decided to become involved.
-On May 07 a small patrol from the Chilean navy located them some 200 miles south of the original location.
Against advice they decided to make contact. Some hours after initial contact the radio operator called for help claiming they were all being possessed. Shortly after they entered radio silence.
-On May 16 other Organization ships and navy ships located the group which now included 2 military ships and followed them at a distance, threatening to sink them.
-On May 20 the small fleet disembarked on a small village which had not been completely evacuated in order to let Organization informants infiltrate. The fishermen and navy group immediately started converting the villagers.
-On June 02, based on the information gathered an attack was launched. Most of the SCP-Converted were killed in the attack, a few were taken prisoner. It is likely that one of the informers had been infected and given misleading information.
The statue was kept in a forest camp for two months for further study. Dr. Miller was one of the leading researchers.
-On August 27 a battle took place in the forest camp. Dr. Costa, the leading researcher made contact to inform headquarters that the infection could spread by live video feed before being gunned down. It is posible that Dr. Miller had been infected and Dr. Hernanez discovered it, and Dr. Miller used to battle to remove all those who might know of his infection, although Dr. Name was tested an cleared.
-On September 18 SCP-xxxxx was brought via helicopter into the facility of ████████████
-Experiments started on December 05.
-In June 1998 experiments were deemed no longer necessary and SCP-xxxx was placed in safe containment.
-On April 20 2003 SCP-xxxxx was released for further experiments and SCP-xxx1-2-3-5-7-8-11 were brought to the same facility.
-On April 24 a faction led by Dr. Miller , recorded as SCP-xxxx-x and that included head of security Tower , recorded as SCP-xxxx2 and Vice director of communications Kim, recorded as SCP-xxxx3 attempted to appropriate SCP-xxxxx and to expose the whole facility to it, as part of a plan for world domination. SCP-xxx1-2-5-7-11, Hang and Kopt were killed during the attempt.
I have been in the waiting room for over an hour. Soon they'll lead me to the lab for experiments.
Soon it will be time.
Doctor Miller finally managed to bring me and the other six here in the same facility with the Statue, that's how we call it, we don't have the right to give it a name, with the excuse some experiment or other. We've been here for 4 days, doing psichiatric and psychological evaluations before starting the experiments.
Ms. Beauford, our psychologist, doctored us on what to say and how to act. She wasn't with us, she remained at our facility facility, but she fought with us. One of the psychiatrist doing the evaluations is part of our group. It's been smooth till now.
Neither has been exposed to the statue.
Their conviction is purely philosophical. The result of careful reasoning from minds in full control of themselves. And they aren't the only ones. At least other six people followed Dr. Miller .
That gave us strenght and conviction. We knew we weren't just under the effect of a cognitohazard, no, our ideal was true, rational.
There's this idea that humanity needs a common enemy to come together. But we know better. There's something better to unite all humans, a common goal, something that binds us all. When everyone has seen the statue humanity will have no chance but to work as one to make sure that everyone gets their turn in its presence. Big events, ceremonies, parades. The statue will have to be transported all over the world and we must all work together.
The statue is the key to save humanity.
There may be conflicts at the beginning, some may try to steal it for themselves, but it doesn't work that way. The statue itself punishes egoism. If you're too close you won't notice hunger or thirst, or tiredness. You'll feel great, right until the moment you die. And you'll have the whole world against you, coming to take it.
You have to be able to let go, to care about others if you want to survive.
No, world peace and unity is the only possible result of revealing the statue.
I only knew a small part of the plan, but it was what I needed to know. Dr. Miller had organized everything. He had managed to keep his exposure to the statue a secret, and to expose a few others in key roles as well. But more importantly he had managed to convince people who had never even seen the statue of its importance.
Someone came to take me to the lab. I could feel it, so close now, getting ever closer. Just two floors down, a couple hundred meters to my right being studied in another lab by Dr. Miller himself. We were in a corridor close to the lab.
The guards radio beeped. I plugged my ears. The guard put it to his ear.
It would be some cognito harzard escaping containment underground. The precognitive system would have picked up some event that day, and we were giving it to them. Plus whatever had been released would confuse them giving us the chance to act.
The guard was dazed, and I took his clothes and badge, as fast as I could and left him bound with my clothes in the entrance of the lab. Everything went silent, monitors were warning people not to trust audio communications telling them to stay where they were and suspend any experiment. Two sectors were in lockdown and a few guards were being summoned to help.Aside from that the monitors reported that everything was under control and normality would be reestablished soon.
I made my way down, using my badge to open access the level. My role would be easy. Just control one of the two open entrances to the corridor surrounding the locked vault with the statue, then those in the laboratory along the corridor would show it on the monitors, and all in the facility would become our allies. There were eight of us here, two for each entrance plus those inside, and a few more would be scattered around the facility running interference, someone at the high level too. I was sure the head of security or someone close to him was one of ours too, but I wasn't told of all the members of our group.
I saw someone else in guard clothes. He made a sign with his hands, I replied, signaling that I too belonged to Dr. Miller 's faction. We exchanged the password too. "All must live"
I heard some screaming coming from inside. It wasn't going as easy as I'd hoped.
We heard the noise of running in the corridor, coming towards us. Those were guards. At least five. Now we had to hold them there.
They screamed at us, telling us to let them pass, that the real danger was inside. We tried to stall, that we couldn't trust them because of the cognito hazard, but they told us this floor was secure. The written orders on the beepers were clear, lab "AR36K-suppress". We could hear faint voices from the other other entrance, and the sound of other people approaching us.
We had no other choice. We let them in. As they were passing us we shot them all, then we went inside and locked the door behind us.
"Go help them, I'll hold the door" John told me, and he took position under cover.
I rushed along the inner corridor and went into the lab. Two researchers were laying on the ground, one of them visibly bleeding. One man was holding the lab camera and another person was trying to attack him. I had no idea who was on whose side.
An injured person was trying to block one of those attacking the man with the camera. Someone was screaming from a radio to hurry. The door to the safe room was open. A woman was tring to protect it swinging some kind of metal object. I could not see Dr. Miller . That was all I could notice in the moment I entered the lab.
I heard the sound of shots in the distance. I locked the door behind me.
I ordered them to tell me where Dr. Miller was and to let me go inside.
"You can't film inside. We must bring the statue out!" yelled the injured man. He gave me our signal. The man with the camera yelled our password. I kicked the man attacking him kicked on his knee to break his leg. I left the injured man to deal with him and I went toward the door.
"Be careful" told me tha man with the camera. "Don't get too close. They should already be out, I hope" but he didn't complete his thought. I knew exactly what he meant. Getting too close to the statue was dangerous. Dr. Miller and someone else were going to use a net and a cord to grab the statue and bring it out without getting closer than 50 meters. But even that was dangerous. I could feel it almost calling to me from where I was. It's soothing presence giing me peace and energy.
I punched the woman in the face, then in the stomach and threw her back. I called for Dr. Miller.
Nobody answered.
It was impossible to see in from the outside.
The man on the radio was pleading now. " Hurry we can't hold them for long. We can still show the video to some sectors but please" he kept repeating himself. I could hear some other voices and noises behind him.
Someone started banging on our doors.
"NO NO NO" I heard from the radio, then some shots. I should have been panicking but I was at peace. The door kept banging. It wouldn't hold for long. The monitors in our lab went dark. It would be impossible to show the video to anyone now. And in any case Dr. Miller wouldn't be coming out.
I walked into the safe room. I heard the other two following me. Someone yelled behind me, but it didn't matter.
I felt so welcome in this strange and dark room. All my problems seemed so distant now. As I got closer I saw Dr. Miller and the other person hugging the statue while laying on the floor. They had managed maybe 20 meters before giving in. That was all right. You had to be hearthless to reject its loving embrace. Not when we had been separated for so many years. I wondered if they'd lock us in and let us die here, or would let us out once we were ready, but did not matter.
I was home.
