Red Clouds

SCP-5038 is a designation to a phenomenon in which clouds block all sunlight, similar to a solar eclipse. The lower-wavelength light is reflected more, making clouds appear red. A loud noise is emmited, which makes communication impossible within the affected area.

SCP-5038 is an errant behavior of fundamental particles in h2o molecules in the liquid state, which causes light to be absorbed and its energy released as sound waves. Sudden sources of energy, such as animals swimming, will also be absorbed by SCP-5038. SCP-5038 spreads to nearby molecules, but it is only active if at least 500 infected molecules are near each other. Infected water is toxic to all current living animals.

An event such as a cloud blocking all sunlight happens arround every 10 years.

Rivers are particularly prone to being infected, and in such case the best solution is to intentionally polute it, as the natives will understand they can't drink from it, and it slows down the spread of SCP-5038. Below is an attachment containing all of the rivers detected with SCP-5038 and subsequently poluted by the Foundation.
