Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a small lockbox in a standard humanoid containment cell. Access by members of the Foundation is restricted to individuals with a working knowledge of the occult and folklore, as well as Cognitohazard Resistance Training. Testing with D-Class personnel is to take place only under supervision by research staff with said training.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a brown leather-bound book with a purple cabochon-cut gem of indeterminate makeup in the center of its front cover. While not compelled, individuals with strong ties to the occult are more likely to open the book. When opened, a cognitohazard will be triggered, causing the person to take on the persona of a famous witch from folklore or popular culture, becoming an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. (See Test Log) Personnel that have undergone cognitohazard resistance training will be unaffected These personas are almost always female, regardless of the user's true gender. This effect will initially only last as long as the book is kept within a five-foot radius of the SCP-XXXX-1 instance. As a consequence of this, SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to keep the entity in contact with them at all times, such as sewing it onto their clothes, or using the entity's power to keep it somewhere that it would be impossible for personnel to retrieve. Those under the influence of SCP-XXXX will become minor reality benders. For at least the first two months and up to a year, Most instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will retain memories of their life, citing the persona as a pseudonym and will use what powers they have to benefit themselves and others they consider friends, with their powers taking on the form of various "spells". (See Interview Log) After anywhere between two months and a year, SCP-XXXX-1 will completely abandon their previous name and personality. After this event, it becomes completely impossible for instances to revert to their original identities. They will begin to use their powers to change the world around them, turning wherever they are housed into what is described by personnel as a "Witch's Hut" and creating items that fit their new personality, such as wands, black cats, stereotypical "witch hats," and on occasion, new copies of the entity. They will also alter their appearance to fit more in line with their new identity. (Males become females, eye/ hair color changes, becoming shorter or taller, etc.) These new personalities are not hostile, although will act in self defense if provoked. In some case they have even been found to aid the Foundation. (See incident log SCP-XXXX-023)
