SCP-4322

Item #: SCP-4322

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4322 is to be contained within a specially designed room at Site-15. The following criteria must be met at all times.

- Direct visual observation of SCP-4322 should not be possible from the exterior of the room.
- SCP-4322 must be kept inside of a handcrafted metal containment box made of brass at all times, outside of inspection procedures.
- SCP-4322's containment box may be constructed of copper, bronze, stainless steel, galvanized steel, or aluminium if brass is unavailable. Site staff will amend box replacement rate as needed if materials are substituted.
- The walls of SCP-4322's containment box must be no less than 3cm in width and the contents not visible from outside the box.
- Onsite personnel must have access to at minimum 5 additional handcrafted containment boxes.
- Structural damage inspections must be conducted every 2 years. If an unplanned exposure of SCP-4322 occurs within the room, staff will file for an immediate cursory inspection.
- All inspection staff will be issued Class-A amnestics post-inspection of SCP-4322's containment room.
- A cursory inspection will be performed by one designated staff member every day to check the degradation rate of the containment box.

For most handcrafted containment boxes, degradation reaches critical levels after 10 weeks. Replacement procedures should be carried out by Class-D members once every 7 weeks. Said Class-D will be fitted with a mouth gag and blindfold, be given a new containment box, and will enter SCP-4322's room to remove it from the degraded container and place it in the new one. The old container will then be removed from the room by the Class-D, who will then enter a 24-hour period of isolated quarantine and monitored. During the quarantine, any Class-D who display the following behavior are to be terminated immediately: Making verbal remarks about their interaction with SCP-4322, asking questions about the nature of SCP-4322, asking to return to SCP-4322, or displaying nonverbal behavior alluding to SCP-4322 such as drawing images of the object or miming holding it in their hands.

Description: SCP-4322 is a common model flight recorder. Its main body is orange in coloration and is 14cm in diameter. All writing on SCP-4322's surface is in English. The anomalous properties of SCP-4322 can be observed when SCP-4322 is left stationary for longer than 12 hours. Any non-natural material exposed to SCP-4322 degrades in a way similar to constant outdoors exposure, but at a rate beyond that of natural exposure. It has been observed that materials made by machining have a higher rate of degradation than those that are made by hand. This property of SCP-4322 remains active unless it is within an aircraft moving at speeds higher than 50kmh. Initial containment procedures which involved keeping it within a constantly moving autonomous craft were scrapped once its other anomalous effects were observed.

Subjects exposed to physical or visual contact with SCP-4322 are likely to exhibit behavior similar to those with chronic anxiety and depression. Insomnia has also been observed to manifest in individuals after exposure. It is not uncommon for subjects to vocally express a desire to return to SCP-4322 in order to observe it further. In Experiment 152B-2-4, Researcher [BLACKOUT] observed that the Class-D subject exposed to SCP-4322 physically, but not visually, openly questioned the status of the pilot of SCP-4322's craft. Class-D at the time would not have been aware that SCP-4322 was a flight recorder. It is currently unknown whether the behavioral anomalies are caused by or merely enhanced by SCP-4322's cognitohazardous nature.

If subjects are allowed to return to SCP-4322, within 4 hours of constant exposure, subject will become an instance of SCP-4322-B. Instances of SCP-4322-B are characterized by being affected by SCP-4322's degenerative energies. Within 4 minutes, SCP-4322-B's skin will peel and blister. Within 20 minutes, SCP-4322-B's skin will enter total degradation and begin to slough off. SCP-4322-B then becomes violent toward any nearby staff. All instances of SCP-4322-B have been terminated at this point due to containment breach risks and further testing is ongoing.
