Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard low-threat anomalous object locker in a door-less room guarded by at least one Foundation security personnel. Level-2 security clearance or higher and the written permission of the Senior Researcher responsible is required to use SCP-XXXX for the purpose of testing.
All testing is to be supervised by at least one Senior Researcher. D-class personnel are not to be used as test subjects in all tests involving SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a generic brown acrylic wool doormat measuring 75cm × 45cm in size with the words "Welcome" stitched onto the top and "Home is where the Heart is" onto the bottom of the fabric. It is brandless and without make, though analysis of its material have lead to the estimation that it is manufactured circa 20██. When SCP-XXXX is in its inactive state, it shows no anomalous features and resembles a standard doormat.
SCP-XXXX activates when it is placed before a door that meets a certain criteria (See Addendum XXXX-2) and a human steps onto it, at which point the door will begin to shape-shift into a door recognised by the subject to be the front door of their residence (See Test XXXX-7 and Addendum XXXX-3). Opening the door reveals that it does indeed lead into the subject's residence instead of the door's original destination. Anyone in the residence are aware of this and also sees that the door leads into a different location than normal. Areas normally beyond the door remains unchanged and can be seen through windows, cameras, etc. Persons attempting to enter the door in the same direction as the subject and in the actual location of the door will find that it is locked and cannot be opened by any means. The opposite side of the door that SCP-XXXX was placed before acts in a similar fashion, but retains its original appearance.
Closing the door does not reverse these effects and the door will continue to lead to the subject's residence "specific location" until either a new subject steps on SCP-XXXX, or the SCP itself is removed. At that point, the door will begin to revert back to it's original shape.
Should the subject holds no emotional connection with any location that has not been demolished or destroyed, the door will not shape-shift and will instead open to a small closet featuring a framed photograph of said location prior to its demolition or destruction. It is unknown how and where the photographs originate from, as even previously undocumented locations will appear in the photograph. Tests have proven that it is the same closet that appears every time this scenario occurs. GPS tracking of the closet has thus far been inconclusive.
Subjects typically show signs of distress after viewing the featured image in the closet regardless of when the subject was last at the location. Subjects are also then able to remember in vivid detail a single notable event that occurred while residing in the location (See Tests XXXX-17 and XXXX-23). It is unclear whether this effect is anomalous in nature or simply a normal reaction.
In addition to the aforementioned properties, personnel posted in the general vicinity of where SCP-XXXX is contained often report a strong feeling of homesickness and a desire to return to their homes. This effects generally lasts for a few hours after leaving the vicinity of SCP-XXXX.
SCP-XXXX was taken from the possession of ██████ City Police, who recovered it from the belongings of a recently deceased homeless person by the name of ████ ███████. Shortly before his death, there were reports of continued home intrusion from an apartment residence in ███ █████, United States. Foundation personnel were able to confirm that the man had been using SCP-XXXX to visit his place of residence prior to his retirement from the military.
Addendum XXXX-1: Below is a log of selected test results regarding SCP-XXXX.
Test XXXX-1
Subject: D-5859
Events: SCP-XXXX is placed on the doorstep of a standard wooden door. Subject ordered to step onto SCP-XXXX. Door began shape-shifting to a dark green wooden door with a small frosted glass window on a white frame and a peephole. Subject opened door and reveals a living room identified it as his parent's, who were seemingly not present. GPS tracker jumps as subject steps inside and shows the house to be located in ██████, Mexico. Subject attempted escape through front window before being neutralized by security personnel. Area cleanup performed.
Note by Dr. Haris, Okay then, let's not use D-class personnel next time.
Test XXXX-2
Subject: Junior Researcher Allen
Events: SCP-XXXX placed in similar fashion as Test -1. Subject moves towards SCP-XXXX and door began shifting to a checkered black and white wooden door with a brass numbering of "104" recognised as the apartment door of subject's and fiancé's residence. Subject opens door and finds her fiancé in the living room watching television. GPS tracker jumped to ███ ███████, California. Fiancé initially expressed surprise and eventually confusion (presumably as he saw what was beyond the door). Class-A amnestics administered promptly.
Note by Dr. Haris, Now that we know people at home see the lab when we test it, we should probably get amnestics ready next time.
Test XXXX-3
Subject: Janitor Paulson
Foreword by Dr. Haris, This experiment is to determine what happens if we close the door on the subject and put away SCP-3502.
Events: SCP-XXXX placed in similar fashion as previous tests. Subject offered a quick way home at the end of work hours. Subject agrees and steps on SCP-XXXX. Door shifts to a relatively short dark brown door with a peephole. Door opened and leads to subject's studio apartment. Subject enters and GPS tracker jumps to ███ ████ ████, New York. GPS tracker is returned and the door is shut. SCP-XXXX is removed and door begins to shift to original appearance. The next day, Janitor Paulson returns to work as per normal and reports that the door, after it was shut, led to the apartment hallway, as it would normally.
Test XXXX-7
Subject: 37-year-old female (civilian). Survivor of the Bosnian War.
Events: SCP-XXXX placed down before a door as per normal. Subject stands near SCP-XXXX and door shape-shifts into a grey, partially rusted metal door. Subject opens door and enters a small barren, unlit room with a large hole in the wall that suggests the room is several floors high on an apartment complex. Subject reveals that it is her childhood room prior to the war and begins to examine her surroundings. GPS tracker jumps to an abandoned apartment building in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Subject allowed to roam for a few moments before called back, administered amnestics on, and released.
Note by Dr. Haris, Well that was certainly odd. The destination wasn't her house in England, but her old home in Bosnia. We'll find more test subjects with a history of displacement.
Test XXXX-10
Subject: 78-year-old male (civilian) displaced by the Korean War. Currently resides in the border town of ████ ████, South Korea.
Events: Set-up as per normal. Subject steps on SCP-XXXX and door shape-shifts to a featureless white wooden door with a metal door handle. Subject opens door and enters to a family having dinner in a traditional Korean dining room. GPS tracker jumps to a suburb in the █████-███ district of Pyongyang, North Korea. Subject and several older family members began to cry hysterically while embracing each other. Subject allowed to stay a while before being recalled. Class-A amnestics were administered to all civilian witnesses and subject was released.
Test XXXX-11
Subject: 8-year-old male (civilian) displaced by the Syrian Civil War. Currently resides in ███████, Turkey.
Events: SCP-XXXX placed before testing door. Subject moves towards SCP-XXXX and door shifts into a rotting wooden door with visible bullet holes. Subject enters a partially destroyed house as shooting and explosions can be heard. GPS tracker jumps to the then separatist controlled city of Aleppo, Syria. Subject was immediately recalled, door is shut, and SCP-XXXX was removed. Class-A amnestics administered on subject and subject was released.
Note by Dr. Haris, Next time, we'll choose a subject that wasn't displaced so recently by those circumstances. They obviously left for a reason.
Test XXXX-14
Subject: 84-year-old female (civilian). Former resident of Hashima Island. Currently resides in █████████, Japan.
Events: SCP-XXXX placed in similar fashion as previous tests. Subject steps on SCP-XXXX and door shifts to a rusted metal door broken on its hinges. Upon opening, it reveals a room which back wall is completely degraded. Vegetation can be seen growing in the cracks of the concrete. Subject walks inside the room, visually overwhelmed. GPS tracker jumps to the completely abandoned worker's dormitory building in Hashima Island, Japan. Subject called back amid safety concerns regarding the structural integrity of the building. Class-A amnestics was administered and subject was released.
Test XXXX-17
Subject: 43-year-old female (civilian) displaced by the Venezuelan Hyperinflation crisis. Currently resides in ██████, Colombia.
Events: SCP-XXXX was placed at the step of the testing door. Against expectations, the testing door did not change shape and remains the same. The door is opened to reveal a small empty closet roughly 1.2 m2 in floor space and 2.05m tall. A small framed photo of what can be described as a small townhouse is hung opposite the door and is illuminated by a picture light similarly used in a typical art gallery. Subject initially expressed shock and distress at the sight of the picture, and began to cry shortly after. In a post-test interview it is said by the subject that the townhouse featured in the photograph was that of her previous home in Caracas, Venezuela before the events of the hyperinflation crisis, when she was evicted. The house was demolished soon after her arrival in Colombia as a refugee.
Interview with subject:
Dr. Haris: "What was that house in the picture just now?"
Subject: "It… it was my home. Before the economic crisis."
Dr. Haris: "I see. And I assume you've lived there for quite some time?"
Subject: "Yes. (pauses)… I moved there many years ago with my husband. We raised our children there. Those times… Daniella was still so young…"
Dr. Haris: "Daniella?"
Subject: "She's my first daughter. She was quite the naughty girl! I remember she was just 4 she poured water on the CD player because she thought it was thirsty because of how hot it got. God, I don't even know I remembered that. It was so long ago."
Dr. Haris: "Is this something you think about often?"
Subject: "Not anymore, and I've never gotten as emotional as I was today. I'm sorry."
Dr. Haris: "That's OK. You did well all things considered. (Dr. Haris writes down several notes) Well, we're just about finished here. Thank you for coming."
(Class-A amnestics were then administered on the subject and subject was allowed to leave.)
Test XXXX-23
Subject: 22-year-old male (civilian) displaced by the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Currently resides in ███████, Indonesia.
Events: SCP-XXXX placed on the doorstep of standard testing door. Subject stands next to SCP-XXXX. Door does not shift and retains its original appearance. Door is opened by subject and leads to the empty closet consistent of that with Test 3832-17. The image in the frame features a traditional Indonesian stilted house located near a beachside. Subject was visually distressed before closing the door, refusing to view to image again. A post-test interview and further investigation reveals that subject had resided in ██████ Village in the Aceh province of Indonesia, before it had been completely destroyed by the 2004 earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
Interview with subject:
I'll add it some other time.
Test XXXX-26
** Subject:** 38-year-old male (civilian) displaced by the Collapse of the Soviet Union. Currently resides in █████████, England
Events:
Test XXXX-28
Subject: 53-year old female (civilian) displaced by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. Currently resides in ███████, China.
Events:
Test XXXX-34
Subject: 71-year-old male (civilian) displaced by the Iran Blizzard of 1972. Currently resides in ███ █████, United States.
Events:
Addendum XXXX-2: The following criteria for the door must be met for SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties to manifest,
- The door must be at least 1.67m in height and 0.7m in width, and below 3.2m in height and 1.56m in width.
- The door frame must not be independent of walls, and must separate 2 different rooms.
- The door must initially be closed.
- The door must be on a hinge. Doors such as revolving doors and sliding doors will not evoke anomalous effects.
Addendum XXXX-3: Extensive testing have shown that SCP-XXXX does not transport the subject to its residence, but rather the place that the subject has held a long standing emotional connection to formed during any period of their life.
