Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked box in Site 76. Box is to be equipped with a key-card lock and internal propane burners. In case someone attempts to open the box without a proper key-card, SCP-XXXX will be destroyed.
Due to potential for QK event related to abuse or misuse of SCP-XXXX special security measures must be taken.
- KEY-CARD: Key-card lock on the box can only be opened when both cards are inserted at the same time. Dr. ███████ █████████ and Researcher █████ ███████ are designated key-card holders. Key-card holders dont know the exact location of the box.
- SITE DIRECTOR: Site director is the only person to know the exact location of the box. Site Director doesn't have keys to the box.
- MOVING THE BOX: Box should be moved around storage facility at random intervals.
Description: XXXX is an anomalous earmuff style hearing protection device (abbreviated as HPD in further text). The device was made by ██████ ███████ Tools Company located in Zhejiang, China. Upon discovery of XXXX ██████ ███████ production lines were halted until it was clear only this piece of equipment had any anomalous attributes.

At first glance it appears XXXX behaves like any other HPD, it reduces the amount of noise reaching the users ears. Abnormal behaviour of this HPD becomes evident once the user attempts to take them off. When the user tries to take off the XXXX it will produce a powerful burst of sound consisting of all the noise it protected the user from for the duration of the wearing. SCP-XXXX seems to be completely unaffected by the kinetic bursts it is producing.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered in a logging camp near the village of Marapatá, Brazil on 21.11.2019. It arrived in a batch of other personal protective equipment. None of which displayed any anomalous behaviour.
The equipment was distributed among the workers and XXXX was handed to █████ Álvarez, a ██ year old from Marapatá. At 09:30 Mr. Álvarez put on the HPD and began his work as a sawmill operator. At 11:30 he turned the machine off and headed towards the camps kitchen. He was roughly 100 meters away from a group of 8 other workers when he tried to take off the HPD. His attempt resulted in immediate release of accumulated noise which instantly atomised Mr. Álvarez. Resulting shock wave destroyed 80% of the camp and killed 34 out of 55 workers on site. Survivors suffered permanent loss of hearing.
NOTE: Survivor testimonies were used to reconstruct the course of events.
Addendum: After some basic testing, we concluded that SCP-XXXX must be worn by a sentient entity capable of hearing for it to trigger sound accumulation effect.
SCP-XXXX doesn't seem to have an upper limit of sound it can accumulate.
By our estimation, if an entity wearing SCP-XXXX is exposed to a source of 100 dB sound for 48 hours, it would accumulate enough sound that taking the HPD off would trigger a QK event.
Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX such an event is unlikely.
Our testing showed SCP-XXXX is no more durable than any other piece of HPD produced by ██████ ███████. (Only exception being its immunity to self generated kinetic blasts)
We were able to scour it with a scalpel and partially melt 2x2mm area of the headband.
If a situation emerges where destruction of SCP-XXXX is mandatory, that can be easily achieved by any conventional means.
