Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Their cell is modelled after a burnt down house. Scattered debris and broken down walls can be seen in the cell. There are many crevices and small spaces within the walls and debris where the mask children and Maskette may take shelter when sleeping.
Workers entering the cell must stay calm and must have steady movements. They must wear dark colored clothing such as black as flamboyant and pigmented colors may unsettle or disturb the mask children and stress the Maskette.
Description: The name Maskette is given to the single leader of the mask children. She acts as a care taker or mother to the mask children. She resembles a grown woman with old fashion or vintage clothing. The most distinct detail about her is her mask. These mask vary from paper bags or sacs with holes to proper human face mask. The Maskette seems to have no face under the mask but researchers are unsure of this as no experiments have been carried out to prove this.
Maskettes are very protective of their mask children. If the children are threatened or attacked, she will become agitated and very aggressive. She may attack whatever threatens her mask children and use her claw-like nails to do so. If her mask children are taken away from her, she will become stressed and become unable to function, she will not feed without her children and die of starvation.
Mask children are the child-like creatures the Maskette will care for. They resemble and act like normal three-twelve aged children with masks. These masks also vary from paper bags or sacs to human face shaped masks. These masks do not determine the mask child's personality nor does it represent anything. They rarely make noise but when they do, it is to communicate with the Maskette. These noises sound like chirps or screeches.
History: Records of mask children and Maskettes date back all the way from the ice age. This can be seen in cave paintings from the time. Mask children and Maskettes settle in countries north of the equator such as east Europe and Russia. They were found in houses that were destroyed from fires and bombings (these instances are from WWI and WW2) or abandoned buildings. They are capable of fitting through tight crevices as if they have no bones and hard-to-get-to places on structures such as roofs and in between walls. Some records even state that mask children and Maskettes are known to live within the walls and attics of houses which are occupied by people.
