Special Containment Procedures: Any devices containing SCP-XXXX outside of Foundation testing are to be confiscated and incinerated. App stores of mobile devices are to be monitored constantly for the addition of SCP-XXXX, which will be removed immediately via use of Foundation malware.
SCP-XXXX is not permitted for use locating new SCPs, as it is unclear whether it simply leads a user to the desired location, or manifests the surroundings itself.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a mobile app known as Phenomenaut, which markets itself as an exploration game. A user requests one of three types of locations: Mutual, Barren, and Aberration, and a random set of coordinates will be set for the user.
A Mutual location is set in a public area, with people and buildings nearby. A Barren location is set in the middle of nowhere, such as a field or forest. An Aberration is not based on location, but is related to a user’s intent.
After the type of location is selected, a user is also asked to enter an intention, anything from an everyday object to phrases such as “death,” or “forgotten.” The coordinates are meant to lead you to a place that will unearth your intent. An Aberrant location is strongly intent-based, and can be either Mutual or Barren.
Upon arrival at the coordinates, a series of one to four anomalous events will occur, the most common of which includes the appearance of a mutilated body. DNA tests have been able to identify the bodies, none of which have been local to or had any reason to be where they were found. Most notable was the discovery of Dr. Richards in [REDACTED] Australia. The wounds on the corpses appear to be slash wounds from a fifteen to twenty centimeter knife.
Other anomalous events have included strange voices, the appearance of satanic and cultish symbols, the appearance of strange entities, sudden amnesia, and the absolute disappearance of test subjects.
