Object Class : Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3495-A is to be kept in a secure, hermetically sealed case and is not to be removed without following proper testing protocol. These protocols are as follows: SCP-3495-A is not to be worn by any persons who display a tendency towards aggression and violence nor any persons with a documented mental illness that would make them unpredictable in the event of unexpected complications. Any tests involving SCP-4595-A should be carried out with a full squadron of guard personnel on hand and equipped for confrontation with armored humanoid targets. Termination is authorized in the event a containment breach appears imminent. Outside of testing SCP-3495-A should be placed under minimum standard observation, with a bi-weekly check for any wear and tear on its surface. Measures should be taken to reduce risk of damaging or destroying SCP-3495-A.
- Special Personnel Exceptions: By order of Site Director ████ █████, SCP-3495-B is currently in the care of Researcher ██████ █████. Unless otherwise stated he is to be considered the only person authorized to be in possession of SCP-3495-B. Should it be made apparent that Researcher Connell has become incapable of properly handling SCP-3495-B, termination is authorized, and SCP-3495-B will be subject to the same procedures as its counterpart.
Measures should be taken to reduce risk of damaging or destroying either of SCP-3495.
Description: SCP-3495-A and SCP-3495-B appear to be intricately carved tribal masks each depicting a ram’s head. SCP-3495-A appears much more practical in nature, containing less detailed markings and more focused craftsmanship. SCP-3495-B is believed to be ceremonial in nature.
SCP-3495-A and SCP-3495-B display similar anomalous properties. Both masks when worn will become attached to face of the wearer and will be irremovable by any means that do not result in the termination of the wearer. When the mask is attached it will begin to alter the wearer’s body rapidly.
The changes appear to follow a pattern, first the wearer begins to rapidly grow fur, followed by minor warping of bones and shifting of internal organs. Finally comes much more major alterations of the skeletal structure, growth of horns, as well as growth of hard subdermal bone plates.
When the transformation is complete the mask will become removable again. Changes caused by the mask are permanent and take on the appearance of a hybrid creatures containing features of both a human and a ram, including digitigrade legs, elongated skull, and horns.
The mask’s adhesion to the face of the wearer is speculated to be some kind of safety mechanism. The mask seems to facilitate all the changes happening within the body. At any given time between the start and the finish of the transformation the wearer’s body is unstable and lacking the cohesive bodily systems to operate on its own. The mask becomes removable when the body is once again self-sufficient. The entire process lasts roughly anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes.
SCP-3495-A appears to have one noticeable difference from SCP-3495-B. Subjects wearing SCP-3495-A who undergo extreme stress or emotional turmoil will trigger a secondary transformation in which subjects begin sprout bone-like growths from their skin, corresponding with the location of sub-dermal bone plates. Bone that has breaches the surface follows no uniform growth, rising up in large hooks, spikes, and flowing protrusions. Skin around the bone protrusions will begin to rapidly undergo necrosis and stages of rot.
Subjects in this state will enter a berserk rage, and cannot be reasoned with. When not terminated immediately, subjects will continue to rampage until rot overtakes enough of their body that continued functioning becomes impossible.
It is uncertain weather SCP-3495-B also possess this trait as the only documented individual to undergo transformation via SCP-3495-B is Researcher ██████. Current testing provides insufficient evidence to discern weather it is a fluke relating specifically to Researcher ██████, or some other, as of yet unknown mechanic of SCP-3495.
Acquisition Report 3495: Reports of attacks on civilians by humanoid animals and sightings of horned creatures hiding in the ██████ Forest of ███████, Texas. Special Operations Unit 447 - Spear of Ticonderoga, along with an expert in anthropology, Researcher ██████, were dispatched to observe and if possible make contact with any anomalous entities.
Unit 447 located a single settlement, located at roughly the center of the 3 square kilometer area marked out in initial surveying. Populated by a species of sheep-like humanoids who worshiped a ram god. They appeared to have a well established, tribal, farming community operating with a roughly neolithic understanding of technology.
Unit 447 successfully made contact and were brought before the chief, who expressed his desire to remain isolated from society. Researcher ██████ negotiated with the chief to establish an exclusion zone around their land. The chief was amicable to the terms laid out by Researcher ██████, however request that the researcher join him in a prayer to his people's god involving the wearing of ceremonial masks. Researcher ██████ agreed with the stipulation that Unit 447 would be able to intervene should anything untoward happen.
Unit 447 responded to screaming and crashes and found Researcher ██████ writhing on the floor of the chief’s tent. Taking it for an act of hostility Unit 447 acted on their own discretion and fired upon the chief, causing the entire village to become hostile. They were unprepared for the villager's unnatural durability and several members of their unit were killed. Following the retrieval of Researcher ██████, Unit 447 initiated Extermination Protocol 18. During the fighting a fire destroyed much of the village. It is unknown who started it.
Site-███ was then established around the remains of the village.

Transcribed from the Journals of Researcher ██████:
March 12th, 20██
It’s been three months since the incident that made me what I am now, they finally let me out of containment and removed the Class E restriction. The shrink says that I should write about the incident, just lay all my thoughts out and get them organized instead of repressing them. Even though it’s been a while I still jump at my own reflection every morning. I keep thinking I’ll just wake up and all this’ll be a bad dream. But every time I accidentally clack my horns on something I’m reminded how real this is.
April 4th, 20██
I feel like I’m starting to adjust a little bit. I think writing things down is helping. I’ve noticed a few eccentricities I’ve developed. My diet has changed too. I think the weirdest thing is interacting with my old friends. In some ways it feels like there's nothing different about our relationship, but at the same time, everything has.
May 2nd, 20██
The foundation has encountered strange demi-human species before and rarely ever speak a language we can readily understand. It probably should have tipped me off when they spoke english that all wasn’t quite right. I wonder if all of them used to be human like me, and were just indoctrinated into that cult.
Addendum 4-3495-2
Following the unearthing of remnants of a village similar to the village Spear of Ticonderoga encountered, it is highly likely that the cult around this ram god isn’t an isolated event. It would be therefore advantageous to keep SCP-3495 around incase similar cults are discovered.
