Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: As of today, the Foundation does not currently possess any reasonable or effective containment procedures to prevent SCP-XXXX from infecting internet devices. One recent method approved by the Foundation involves a Foundation operated bot (I/O-DEFENDER) to intercept emails sent across WAN's if they have been visited by SCP-XXXX and terminating them instantly if they contain any mention or file designated "happiness.exe"
Additionally, Foundation bot (I/O-MANDELA) will monitor all online forums for any discussions regarding "happiness.exe". MTF Phi-7 ("The Laughingstock") is to investigate these issues and immediately notify Security Director Jonas(The current security director tasked with containing SCP-XXXX) so that appropriate action may be made. Devices that have been identified as infected by SCP-XXXX must be confiscated immediately to Site-███ and the owners of the devices are to be detained.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a seemingly sentient computer virus of unknown origin, although reports of the virus date back to 2006. It is speculated that SCP-XXXX targets users of the internet that are vulnerable, as evidenced by the fact that 100% of all cases of users infected with the virus have previously used the internet to search for help regarding their mental health issues or social status. It then manages to interact with the user via an email or text message disguising itself as a distant friend or relative of the user.
NOTE: It should be mentioned now that from this point on, the user is officially under the effects of SCP-XXXX and therefore is now designated as SCP-XXXX-1
The email or text message sent by SCP-XXXX contains a file called "happiness.exe" which if clicked on will instantly download the file onto all of SCP-XXXX-1's devices simultaneously. Test logs conducted by the Foundation suggest that the file is a cognitohazard and that all instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are compelled to click on the link with this effect approximately lasting 8-12 minutes.
Early stages of the virus involve:
- Modifying and replacing online advertisement boards with images of SCP-XXXX-1's past. These images are not random and seemingly only display images of a time when SCP-XXXX-1 was in a state of happiness or wellbeing(For example, images of SCP-XXXX-1 having fun alongside friends or relatives that have recently been deceased or have become distant with SCP-XXXX-1, or a picture of a monumental moment in SCP-XXXX-1's life such as their birthday party or their first love interest.) Often, these images are accompanied with a caption sarcastically stating "Are you having fun still, (Real name of SCP-XXXX-1)?" Regardless, these images have 100% of the time resulted in SCP-XXXX-1' experiencing a severe state of distress or sadness for a random period of time.
- Modifying SCP-XXXX-1's social media to appear as though the user is becoming more distant from their relatives, friends and other users. Some examples of this involve SCP-XXXX manipulating social media pages to make it appear as though SCP-XXXX-1 has been blocked from viewing them
