The man in the orange jumpsuit entered the dimly lit room.

“Alright, what now? There’s just a bed in here.”

“Lay on the bed,” The voice replied over the intercom.

“Ummm alright then, sounds simple enough.”

But something about the bed just didn’t seem quite right to him. It looked like an ordinary bed. But still… something about it just didn’t feel right to him. Just looking at it filled him with a sense of dread.

Maybe it was simply the inconspicuousness of it all. It was so normal. Too normal. They sure as fuck weren’t having him lay on this bed to test the quality of the mattress. No, he hadn’t been in this place long, but he had learned quickly that things weren’t as they seemed in here.

He first learned that lesson when they asked him to fold some paper into a dragon, then suddenly there was a fucking living paper dragon flying around the room, breathing fire and all. It was kinda fun at first, just watching it fly around, and having a bit of a laugh at the guards expense, watching them try to put it down.

It stopped being fun when the fucker singed his eyebrows.

“Approach the bed, D-10582.”

This whole thing made him very uneasy, but he knew better than to say no, so with that, he reluctantly approached the bed.

He nervously laid down on the bed.

“Alright, what now?”

“Please stand by”

Something about that made him uneasy. Stand by for what? What did they have in store for him this time? Most of the stuff they had him test so far hadn’t been too dangerous but still he didn’t—His heart stopped. He heard breathing under the bed.

The breathing was heavy and far from human, that much he could tell. It sounded primal. He was frozen in fear.

"H-hey uhhhh there's something under here,"—He regretted speaking instantly. This thing could surely sense the fear in his voice. "Are-are you there? What do I do?"

There was no response

Of course there wasn't. Of course there fucking wasn't. They knew this would happen. He knew the deal by now. He tested weird shit for them and they got their results. That's all he was here for.

He was alone here.

Fuckfuckfuck what do I do?! What the hell do I do?!

Alright, aright, I'm just gonna take a look under the bed and get a quick look at the thing. I can do this. I got this.

Slowly he built up the courage to take that dreadful look. He inched his way towards the edge of the bed. Trying his best not to tremble, he slowly lowered his head—then an elongated arm reached out and grabbed him, pulling him under.

"AHHHH FUCKFUCKFUCK NO NO NO LET ME GO!"

He broke the creature's grasp and scurried towards the wall. He leaned back against it, breathing heavily—staring back in sheer terror at the yellow eyes now looking right at him.

"No no no, oh god, just stay away from me."

The creature seemed to care little for his pleas, only relishing them if anything, instead moving slightly forward, allowing him to see it's wretched face, the horns protruding from its head, and the rows upon rows of teeth that filled its mouth.

He screamed and desperately crawled away. He looked back and saw it slowly crawling out from under the bed, it's elongated arm outstretched.

He rushed towards the door in a panic and began pounding on it.

“PLEASE, OH FUCK, PLEASE PLEASE LET ME OUT! OPEN THE DOOR, MAN! OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR NOW, IT’S GONNA GET ME!”

He looked for just a second to see the creature coming towards him on all fours.

“AH SHIT, OH FUCK, NO GOD PLEAS—“

The creature grabbed him from behind. He twisted and struggled but it was no use.

This is it, he thought. This is the end but I don’t wanna die. Fuck, I really don’t wanna die here, not like this. Please I don’t wanna die.

He fully expected to have his throat clawed out or have a chunk taken out of him, right then and there but instead… the monster said, “Thank you.” Then it just… let him go.

He fell to his knees and looked back, to catch a glimpse of the creature scurrying under the bed.

Then it was gone.

What the fuck just happened, he thought. Why did it thank me? Ah, fuck it, I’m alive. I’m alive and that’s all that fucking matters. I’m alive. I’m alive!

"So uh can-can I go now?"

In the next room, a woman slept soundly, and the sated monster under her bed closed its eyes to do the same.
