Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently frozen in a large glacier, designated SCP-XXXX-A, located roughly 420 kilometers south of Utqiaġvik, Alaska, near the Gates of the Arctic National Park. Dimensional Containment Area 40 is sited about 10 kilometers away from SCP-XXXX-A, and is tasked with maintaining a 30 kilometer exclusion zone around the glacier. Any civilians trying to enter the exclusion zone are to be turned away under the guise of a conservationist effort by the United States government. In the case of a Timberwolf Event MTF Iota-39 (“Rift Seekers”) is to be dispatched with Hume Readers and Scranton Reality Anchors to seal any dimensional rifts that open during the event. Any civilians or personnel that enter a dimensional rift are to be considered KIA and no attempt should be made to recover them. Any extradimensional entities that emerge from dimensional rifts are to be hunted down and terminated. Media reports of civilian disappearances during Timberwolf Events are to be suppressed.
Due in part to the effects of climate change, SCP-XXXX-A is slowly melting. Every effort is to be made to ensure that SCP-XXXX-A doesn’t fully melt. Investigation into methods of restoring the ice to SCP-XXXX-A is currently underway.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an entity of unknown origin and nature. It is currently frozen inside SCP-XXXX-A, somewhere near the underside of the glacier. It is currently uncertain how deep SCP-XXXX is, with estimates ranging from 500 meters to 5 kilometers. How SCP-XXXX came to be under the glacier is also uncertain. What is known is that sometime around 20,000 BCE the glacier formed on top of SCP-XXXX (This is wildly inconsistent with the age of most other glaciers, with some being almost 34 million years old). This predates human migration to North America by almost 10,000 years. Ice cores taken from SCP-XXXX-A indicate that only the outer twenty meters of ice is frozen water. The rest of the glacier is completely composed of frozen liquid nitrogen. Furthermore, SCP-XXXX-A does not move like other glaciers. Instead it has stayed rooted to the same spot seemingly since its formation. All of this indicates that SCP-XXXX was placed at an unknown depth and SCP-XXXX-A was artificially created over it to seemingly keep it contained.
The deepest ice cores taken from SCP-XXXX-A (a distance of around 300 meters) have contained traces of gamma radiation seemingly emanated from SCP-XXXX. The amounts of radiation present have increased as more of the glacier melts, indicating that the ice is what is keeping SCP-XXXX “dormant”. The effects of climate change, therefore, are causing SCP-XXXX to become more and more powerful, and its anomalous effects are manifesting more and more.
The most dangerous anomalous effect caused by SCP-XXXX is its tendencies to cause dimensional rifts in space around it. These rifts mostly form within a radius of 100 kilometers of SCP-XXXX, but they have been documented all across Alaska as well as Canada’s Yukon Territory. These rifts are all but invisible to anyone who does not have a device that can detect space/time distortions (i.e. a Hume reader). To date, no object or person that has passed through one of these rifts has exited. On 1/3/19██, D-0328 was sent through a dimensional rift during a Timberwolf event. On 6/10/20██, during another Timberwolf event, D-0328 reemerged from a dimensional rift. See Addendum A for more information. These rifts can be sealed after prolonged exposure to Scranton Reality Anchors. SRAs, therefore, have become the main tool used by the Foundation to fight the effects of SCP-XXXX.
Living extradimensional entities sometimes emerge from these dimensional rifts. They are almost always anomalous and feral in nature, with many actively hunting local fauna and humans. These entities have caused the deaths and disappearances of hundreds of personnel and civilians. A full list of recovered specimens is currently being compiled.
SCP-XXXX experiences long periods of dormancy, where little to no anomalous events occur. These periods vary in length from a month to five years. However, these dormant periods have become fewer and farther between. Large scale anomalous events, designated Timberwolf Events, have become more and more frequent as SCP-XXXX-A melts. Timberwolf Events see the opening of a large amount of dimensional rifts at once. The number of rifts opened during a Timberwolf Event vary in number from a few dozen to several hundred, with the average being [REDACTED]. The number of rifts observed in Timberwolf Events has steadily risen as the ice around SCP-XXXX melts, as have the range that they have manifested.
The range of dimensional rifts manifested by SCP-XXXX has always fluctuated. The area affected by these rifts is infamous for disappearances (despite a suppression campaign carried out by the Foundation). It has even earned a nickname, the so-called “Alaska Triangle” due to the events mostly occurring in a triangle with points at Juneau, Anchorage, and Utqiaġvik.

The melting ice is obviously a looming problem for the containment of SCP-XXXX. Whatever imprisoned it under the glacier evidently believed that it was so dangerous that it had to be buried under a mountain of ice. It has proven its danger time and again, and is now steadily growing in power due to global warming. Climate change is not the only problem, however. As SCP-XXXX-A melts, SCP-XXXX gives off more and more gamma radiation. Due to the heat produced by this radiation, the glacier starts to melt faster. At the current rate of melt, along with the climbing rate of the radiation, it is expected that SCP-XXXX-A will be fully melted in ██ years.
Addendum A: On 1/3/19██, D-0328 was sent through a dimensional rift during a Timberwolf event. On 6/10/20██, during another Timberwolf event, D-0328 reemerged from a dimensional rift. Despite being MIA for over a decade, D-0328 did not look as if he had aged during his time inside the dimensional rift. He was found, still in his Class-D jumpsuit, wandering a highway. He was apprehended by local law enforcement who believed he was an escaped convict. The Foundation eventually retrieved 0328, and amnesticized any who had come into contact with him. He was questioned upon returning to Area 40. The interview is attached.

>D-0328: I’m… not sure. I didn’t even know I went anywhere for awhile. The only thing that
tipped me off about the… rift… was that machine beeping like a damn bomb.>Dr. Jameson: You’re referring to the Hume reader?
>D-0328: Yeah, that’s it. Anyway, nothing much was different. Same forest, same snow. I was
only tipped off because there was all these glowing lights in the sky that weren’t there before.>Dr Jameson: Glowing lights, could you mean Aurora Borealis?
>D-0328: I guess that’s what it was. I was too wrapped up in lookin’ at that to notice the sky
was red. Like, blood red. It was night when I went in. Sky was completely black a second
before. Then, there was all that borealis stuff, and the red sky. That’s when I started noticing > all the differences. Like, there were three or four moons. These flying things with four wings.>Dr Jameson: Flying things? Like birds?
>D-0328: More like bats, I guess.

>Dr Jameson: When you say “guys”, you mean…
>D-0328: Not guys. Not like you and me. These, uh, guys, were like seven, seven and a half feet tall. I couldn’t really see their faces because they had hoods on and it was dark, but I could hear them. Not talking, but they were in my head.

>D-0328: It was hard to understand. The way they talked, it was like a foreigner who was just
learning English, you know? They said something about how they had committed a grave sin a > long time ago, and buried something in the ice mountain, whatever that is. >D-0328: I don’t think so. I can’t really remember that next part. One second I was listening to them and the next I was falling. While I was falling there was nothing around me but blackness. It felt like I was falling forever. Then I wasn’t. I was back in this dimension. I guess you know the story from there.
