Special Containment Procedures: Protective steel chainlink fencing is to be placed around SCP-XXXX, with one access door secured with a high security padlock. Signage will indicate the fencing is for historical preservation. Keys are to be kept by a Level 2 supervisor.
SCP-XXXX's statue, prior to fencing installation.
Once weekly, a Level 2 supervisor with a background in numismatics will take an inventory of all items left on SCP-XXXX. Level 1 personnel will perform necessary maintenance and mowing inside the fencing. Level 1 personnel will hide any new coins of high value in the decorative urn near SCP-XXXX's statue, then add a circulated United States coin of any value on top of SCP-XXXX. This procedure is to deter attempts at theft.
Due to SCP-XXXX's public location and historic nature, removal of SCP-XXXX has been deemed unnecessary for now. It is unclear what effect removal would have, and it would have to be carried out by properly trained D-class personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a circular mausoleum and grave monument on a raised knoll located near the center of █████████ Cemetery, outside of █████████, Louisiana. SCP-XXXX was erected in 1889, and contains the remains of local philanthropist ████ █████████ and his wife. The mausoleum features decorative urns and a marble statue of a seated angel carved by ███████ ███████████. The statue carries a book inscribed with the quote: "It is more blessed to give than to receive." The statue has been vandalized with the word 'mammon' carved into the angel's left foot.
Over 100 coins dating from the late 19th century onward are scattered upon the base of the mausoleum. A smaller amount of modern paper currency is also present. They show normal signs of deterioration due to weather and climate. A full inventory is available upon request from the on-site supervisor.
If a coin is removed from SCP-XXXX's base, the thief and any companions will be unable to leave the cemetery. They may not discover this immediately due to the cemetery's normal labyrinthian nature. Subjects report encountering endless mausoleums and monuments, in increasing states of overgrowth and disrepair. All grave monuments match the designs of other graves in the cemetery and surrounding area, repeating endlessly. The time of day ceases to change. Radio contact outside of the trapped group is no longer possible.
Outfitted expeditions have traveled three days from SCP-XXXX after activating its effect without encountering any changes, other than witnessing centuries of disrepair and neglect on the graves and access roads. Aerial drones show a similar endless landscape.
SCP-XXXX's effect can be removed by replacing the stolen coin and adding any other piece of circulated currency to the collection on SCP-XXXX. Observers of SCP-XXXX report noticing the subjects as if they had simply overlooked them up to that moment. Electronic surveillance shows static or other interference just before the subject's return. Companions separated from those returning the coin do not return and no recovery method has been found.
The use of drones to remove coins has resulted in their loss to the effect. Multiple groups suffering the effect have not been able to locate each other within the cemetery.
Addendum-01, Discovery: SCP-XXXX may be tied to disappearances since as early as 1907. The Foundation became aware of SCP-XXXX after █████████ Cemetery was featured on the paranormal investigation television series █████ █████████. The uptick in tourism and interest in months following the broadcast resulted several disappearances due to SCP-XXXX. The episode in question has been suppressed from further broadcast and distribution.
Addendum-02, Crypt Exploration: During an approved investigation of SCP-XXXX's crypt using penetrating radar, Researcher Wentworth discovered a hollow cavity in one wall behind a foundation stone. Removal of the stone revealed a leather and wood English-style suitcase. Suitcase contained a ivory-handled straight razor and $1,935 in tied bundles of five dollar banknotes. Banknotes were dated 1905, issued by the Merchants Bank of New Orleans..
Suitcase was returned to its location and pocket change was added to follow containment procedure. Further testing showed the banknotes were subject to the SCP-XXXX's effects. The crypt door has been secured and reinforced following this discovery.
Foreward: Handwritten note found inside SCP-5416's crypt. Paper was on the letterhead of the Chaparral Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. Removal of the note did not trigger SCP-5416's effects. Ink and paper have no known anomalous properties.

I took travel money as we discussed. I'll see you soon in Lake Charles.
Sheridan, leave this. Some witchcraft is upon me. I cannot leave. I can walk forever in every cardinal direction but I cannot leave. Father's tomb might have been the perfect hiding place, but the angels or God or the Devil have other plans. There is only death here, endless graves. I have found not another soul my two days of wandering. I grow weak from thirst. I threw the money away and still I am here.
YOU GAVE AWAY ALL OUR FORTUNES, OLD MAN, BUT YOU JUDGE US FOR TAKING WHAT WE NEED TO SURVIVE. TO HELL WITH YOUR TRUSTS AND FUNDS AND ORPHANAGES AND GOOD WORKS! TO HELL!
Containment Class:
euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Embedded Foundation elements in coastal search and rescue agencies will monitor for spikes in disappearances and deaths. Special attention should be given to deaths involving severe trauma and lacerations, and for deaths where the victim's personal effects and equipment are found separated from their owners in a way normal tidal forces would not explain.
Active SCP-XXXX instance, reacting to a Foundation object introduction.
When a potential instance of SCP-XXXX is identified, local ocean safety authorities should be instructed to issue diving and swimming bans for the suspected area. Waterproof (IP68, rated to 300 meters) ultraviolet lights emitting the UVB (280-315nm) spectrum should be dropped into the suspect area at 30 meter intervals. If the bioluminescence of SCP-XXXX-A is observed, diving and swimming bans should remain in place, and the area tested again every seven (7) days. Foundation personnel should enforce these bans posing as local or national safety authorities.
Testing personnel interacting or observing SCP-XXXX should remain in a hard-bottom surface vessel if possible. If direct underwater observation is required, personnel should use an atmospheric diving suit (ADS or "hard suit") rated for up to 3m/s hard impact with limited buoyancy and a self-contained life support system. Following Incident XXXX-2, manned submersibles should not be used in SCP-XXXX testing. Submersibles should be unmanned, untethered and hardened. Tethered observation devices or ADS should not be used.
There is no known procedure presently for capturing instances of SCP-XXXX.
Due to an unrelated dam accident in ███████, the Foundation has learned SCP-XXXX instances can be halted by the introduction of large amounts of fresh water (minimum 700 megaliters per 100m of SCP-XXXX diameter). Due to the resources required and violent reaction of SCP-XXXX during this process, this method of containment should only be used when large segments of the public cannot be reasonably kept distanced from SCP-XXXX. See Document XXXX-B1 (Fort Lauderdale - Operation Broken Spring).
Description: SCP-XXXX is an intense localized tidal phenomenon occurring in large bodies of saltwater, at depths of up to 300m. SCP-XXXX ranges from 100m to 2000m in diameter, with an average of 500m in diameter. SCP-XXXX instances remain active for between two weeks to two months. SCP-XXXX instances typically occur in rocky areas such as coastal reefs or volcanic deposits. SCP-XXXX was first identified in 19██, after a series of deaths involving experienced military dive teams during exercises in █████ ██████. The Foundation has since identified over █████ instances of SCP-XXXX.
Water samples removed from SCP-XXXX show no special properties save for the presence of SCP-XXXX-A. Placing SCP-XXXX samples into other bodies of water has no noticeable effect.
SCP-XXXX-A is an unclassified marine photobacterium that has appeared within all known instances of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-A shows mild bioluminescence for up to an hour after a SCP-XXXX attack. SCP-XXXX-A will intensely bioluminesce when exposed to UVB spectrum light, making it an effective detection tool for SCP-XXXX. Despite initial suspicions, SCP-XXXX-A is not considered to be the source of SCP-XXXX. See Addendum-01.
SCP-XXXX will follow natural tidal and wave patterns a majority of the time. At irregular intervals, SCP-XXXX will manifest sudden highly focused underwater currents similar to riptides and down-currents targeted at buoyant animals, defying normal tidal patterns. Smallest recorded target was a 22kg young harp seal. Largest recorded target was a 503kg adult female manatee.
The underwater current generated by SCP-XXXX is focused enough that close groups of divers have reported only one or two members being seized while the others feel only nominal disturbance. The target will be dragged across available hard underwater surfaces, preferring rough jagged surfaces such as coral or rock formations. Victims suffer severe lacerations and blunt trauma. Victims usually die of trauma, blood loss and drowning. Tests to detect lost bodily fluids in water samples after an SCP-XXXX attack have been negative.
SCP-XXXX's activity slowly increases in frequency over time, occurring up to ten times per day at the height of its activity, then rapidly drops off. SCP-XXXX does not attempt to seize heavy non-buoyant objects. SCP-XXXX has been observed seizing sharks, large cephalopods (e.g. Giant Pacific octopus), large bony fish (e.g. bluefin tuna), large mammals (e.g. seals, manatees, whales), domesticated pets, and humans. It will seize both diving and surface swimming victims. SCP-XXXX has not been observed attacking corpses, crustaceans, and plant matter. For a full list of SCP-XXXX victims, see Documents XXXX-V1 (Animal), XXXX-V2 (Confirmed Human) and XXXX-V3 (Suspected Human).
Small submersibles have been severely damaged by SCP-XXXX generating intense down-currents, but only after extended activity in the area or other provocation. See Incident XXXX-2.
In addition to its attacks on living creatures, SCP-XXXX will engage with personal effects and equipment of victims for an extended time. It will manipulate them with small bursts of strong currents, keeping them aloft and in motion. Ocean debris and man-made trash receive similar engagement. Objects that have unusual buoyancy and motion properties underwater appear to be particularly interesting to SCP-XXXX, resulting in hours of engagement. Test objects built to have engaging properties have been introduced to SCP-XXXX by Foundation researchers. These objects can temporarily reduce SCP-XXXX's attack activity during engagement. Introducing the same type of test object twice to the same instance has a greatly reduced effect.

Objects retrieved from SCP-XXXX after manipulation have no discernible aberrant properties. Attempts to retrieve objects from SCP-XXXX during manipulation can provoke a violent reaction (see Incidents XXXX-1 and XXXX-2).
Incident XXXX-1: Test Object XXXX-EO-T14 was introduced to SCP-XXXX instance near ██████ ████████, █████. D-XXXX and Researcher Wetzler were deployed within SCP-XXXX in appropriate ADS. After 30 minutes of SCP-XXXX engagement, D-XXXX was instructed to grab and remove XXXX-EO-T14. SCP-XXXX resisted removal. D-XXXX was instructed to pull forcefully upon XXXX-EO-T14. D-XXXX and Researcher Romo were seized by an extreme down-current for four (4) minutes. D-XXXX suffered helmet damage. Down-current did not cease until D-XXXX's ADS automatically released XXXX-EO-T14 following D-XXXX losing consciousness.
Incident XXXX-2: Test Object XXXX-EO-T14 was introduced to SCP-XXXX instance near ████████, ███████. Researchers Wetzler, Romo and Osorio observed via manned submersible piloted by Agent N. Lauritzen. Researcher Romo requested closer observation of XXXX-EO-T14. Upon approach, submersible propulsion began affecting XXXX-EO-T14's motion noticeably. Submersible was subject to a series of down-currents of steadily increasing strength. Agent N. Lauritzen requested permission to exit SCP-XXXX. Request was granted by senior research staff in surface vessel.
Submersible suffered significant hull damage from multiple impacts with sea floor and rock formations. Crew suffered moderate injuries. Agent N. Lauritzen commended for actions during incident.

Addendum-01, Relationship with SCP-XXXX-A: SCP-XXXX-A was initially suspected to be the source of SCP-XXXX. However, introducing SCP-XXXX-A into a body of water has not caused SCP-XXXX to manifest, and SCP-XXXX-A will not survive outside of SCP-XXXX longer than three days. Sterilizing and removing SCP-XXXX-A completely from SCP-XXXX leads to an increase in SCP-XXXX activity, not a decrease. It is theorized that SCP-XXXX-A is a symbiotic bacterial flora within SCP-XXXX, though the exact relationship is unknown.
Addendum-02, Emergence Rate and Theories: There is no proven pattern to the emergence of SCP-XXXX. Global population of active identified SCP-XXXX instances has never exceeded seven -nine eleven. Instances of SCP-XXXX have increased at a rate of ██ per year over the last ██ ████. Researcher Osorio suggested this may be due to human encroachment on its typical habitats, and dwindling natural food sources through over-fishing and habitat loss.
Possible links to SCP-1812 and to other memetic gravitational phenomenon has been suggested as a further line of research.
