Special Containment Procedures: SCP-9001 is to be contained in a 12 X 12 X 9 M aquarium chamber visible for viewing by a tinted bulletproof looking glass allowing for clear observation on the observation room side. In addition to the aquarium room, 9001's containment chamber should include an above water entry point. The entry point should open up to a room above the aquarium and should be measured at 15 X 15 X 9 M. The room and aquarium should be equipped with toxin expulsion vents which are connected to the chemical containers that incapacitate SCP-9001. Under no circumstances must SCP-9001 be removed from Site-██. Due to the nature of its abilities, 9001 must be kept contained under extremely specific conditions. If an SCP-9001 breach should ever occur again (See Incident Report 9001-A) all containment teams must be dispatched immediately to cover a 100Km radius at least, to search ALL known water sources in the area. If SCP-9001 isn't confirmed to be currently residing in any of those sources, all Foundation Sites must be alerted immediately and possible VK-Class High Alert must be put into place until retrieval of 9001 is conducted. It is important to note that during this time, 9001 should be raised from Euclid class to Keter.
Note: If SCP-9001's transport to a different site is indisputable by any means, then Toxin-9001 must be administered to 9001 before any attempts of transit are to be taken into effect. During transit, 9001 must be constantly exposed to Toxin-9001 to keep it incapacitated until it reaches a new site. The new site ideally should be located 100Km away from any known water sources, and be in particularly a very barren area with low amounts of rainfall. If any of the above guidelines are to be ignored, then a risk of an SCP-9001 breach should be expected and the above-mentioned measures taken to retrieve it should be undertaken immediately after the breach.
Description: SCP-9001 is observed to have a silhouette of a classic fairy-tale mermaid creature. It's "tail" is of a similar design of a mermaid's tail but slight differences such as the inclusion of intricate and mobile scales set it apart. The upper half of 9001's body continues the pattern of these scales throughout. Its arms have webbing between the fingers, and semi-long nails on each finger (These nails so far have not grown ever since 9001 was brought into containment) Its head is that of a mix of a women's face and amphibious features, such as it's ears showcasing the same type of webbing on its hand and the ears being displayed to flair out more and react more intensely to noises. 9001 is measured to stand nearly 6 meters tall and 2 meters wide. The scales along its body seem to be directly connected to the creature's emotions and surroundings (See SCP-9001 Sighting-B).
SCP-9001's anomalous abilities consist of the creature having almost a mental control over any form of liquid that at least holds nearly an 80% concentration of H2O. The range of this ability seems to be limitless in all cases (See SCP-9001 Sighting A, B, and C) except when the creature has lost consciousness (See SCP-9001 Containment Attempt Bravo). 9001's second anomalous ability is its manifestation in any body of water that it is able to transport too (The current working theory is that the range of this ability is limited by 100Km to any body of water that isn't connected to the one SCP-9001 currently inhabits). SCP-9001's third, and seemingly the only non-voluntary, anomalous ability is it's extreme mental connection to water. During testing and observed cases of 9001 entering a completely new body of water then what it was currently inhabiting, it will display effects of memory loss and confusion (Something like that of a child at times). Bodies of water that have existed for quite a while, like rivers and well-maintained lakes and most notably the ocean, it will display a more mature mental state and control over its actions.
Aside from this, SCP-9001 display's almost human higher brain functionality and this has caught the Foundation's eye as to how they could utilize this and 9001's anomalous abilities. During containment, 9001 has been personal tested on this idea and so far results have shown it to be able of complex human thought and speech. Progress is being made to expand SCP-9001's thought process and abilities to be of use to the Foundation. (See SCP-9001 Interview Log-A, B, and C; SCP-9001 Test Log-1, and 2)
