SCP-XXXX

The exterior of SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Because of the nature of SCP-XXXX, local government has played an active role in discouraging civilians from interacting with SCP-XXXX since before the Foundation was aware of it’s anomalous properties. A Foundation front organization, the "Sicilian Cultural Protection Agency" acquired the land SCP-XXXX resides on from the local government and the continued construction on the site is disguised as preservation of a historical location. Since the Foundation’s acquisition of SCP-XXXX Outpost 819 has been built to continue research on the site and to assist with the continued transportation of anomalous entities contained within. Anomalous properties of some objects recovered from SCP-XXXX appear to diminish when removed from the structure, no additional objects relating to SCP-XXXX's contruction are to be transported off-site unless certified by a senior researcher Director of Site 77.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 12th century cliffside prison overlooking the town of █████, Italy. Prior to the establishment of Outpost 819, it was almost impossible to reach SCP-XXXX without proper gear and knowledge in mountaineering. SCP-XXXX is 6 stories tall, and has 3 subfloors carved out of the surrounding rock. The 6 above ground floors appear to have been administrative in nature, consisting of multiple barracks, what appear to be offices, and a large, mostly empty, library. The first 2 sub-floors contain rows of dungeon like hallways, lined with prison cells. Each cell is constructed of stone bricks, and a majority of the cells have simple, wooden doors, many of which have dry-rotted and fallen apart. Some cell doors are made of steel, which by now has begun to rust, and other rooms appear to have never had doors in the first place. There are 75 of these cells on each floor. The third sub-floor contains an additional 25 cells, although these are all much larger, and are constructed with large, steel gates instead of the wooden doors of the above floors.

SCP-XXXX is constructed of an estimated 2,560,913 individual stone blocks, all of which have a rune carved, painted, or written onto them. Other important structural aspects of SCP-XXXX also have this rune written or carved into them, including all of the cell doors, amenities in certain cells, and the wooden structural supports of the building. This rune depicts a crudely drawn man, holding what appears to be a shield. Analysis of this rune has failed to connect it to any known human civilizations, although it may be from the [REDACTED] alphabet. This rune causes any object it is inscribed onto to be resistant, although not impervious, to damage by anomalous mean or by anomalous entities1. This property was accidentally discovered during the initial exploration of SCP-XXXX, when Agent Bailey of mobile taskforce TASKFORCE-X fractured multiple bones in his foot when attempting to kick open a decaying wooden door on the first floor of the building. This same door crumbled under a minimal amount of force was applied to it by Agent Carter. It was later determined that Agent Bailey’s ability of [REDACTED] was what prevented him from damaging the door2, showing that anomalous individuals have difficulty damaging objects with the symbol carved into them, even by means not associated with their anomalous effects. See Exploration Log A-1

The group that created SCP-XXXX is unknown, although the local historical society claims it was built, and promptly abandoned, during The Second World War by the government as a secure bunker. This would seem to clash with documents found in the on-site library, which confirm that SCP-XXXX was constructed sometime during the 12th century, and was likely already falling into disrepair 100 years before the Second World War started3. Based on other documents recovered from the library, the prison was constructed to contain anomalous entities. Examination of the prison cells in the sub-floors of SCP-XXXX has confirmed this. Of the 175 cells in the building, 155 contain or contained anomalous entities at one point. Entities found within the prison included a variety of anomalous inanimate objects, as well as humanoid anomalies. However, a majority of entities found within SCP-XXXX, 123 of the 155, have been classed as NEUTRALIZED. Among these were the remains of over 100 dead human bodies, which were assumed to have died of starvation. The 32 still active anomalous entities have all been given SCP designations, and 26 of them have been transported to nearby Site-774. The remaining 6 will continue to be housed within SCP-XXXX, as transportation has been deemed impossible or unnecessary.

Addendum-SCP-XXXX-A:
All anomalous entities housed within SCP-XXXX are to be transported to Site-77 for further research. Any entities deemed too risky to transport will have research continued on-site. Any artifacts concerned with the construction of SCP-XXXX are not to be removed from Outpost 819.

Addendum-SCP-XXXX-B:
Senior Researcher M███████ has proposed using SCP-XXXX as a containment facility for low-threat anomalous entities which are no longer undergoing research. Further investigation into the nature of SCP-XXXX is necessary before this proposal can move forward. Structural reinforcement of SCP-XXXX is to halt until further notice.
