Item #: SCP-5036
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures:SCP-3411 is currently contained in its location of origin, █. SCP-3411 is to be kept inside a dome of fibreglass of diameter 34m and be kept under guard by at least 8 armed military personnels at all times.
Description: SCP-3411 is a huge sequoia like tree, known as The Tree of Mehag by the once native tribes of █. Mehag was an asteroid which hit the Earth some 10,000 years ago deduced from the cave paintings found in that area. The seed of an unknown plant somehow landed on the resting place of the asteroid and it started growing on it. The leaves of the Mehag tree are known to have curing abilities from the disease Cancer. Research are being conducted to find and isolate the pigment which helps to eradicate the spread of the tumorous cells in a cancer patient. Biological samples obtained from The Tree of Mehag doesn’t show any similarity to any other kind of present species of trees that exist among the flora known to humankind.
Its cancer healing properties were discovered when the natives gave a paste of its leaves to one of the very first researchers, Dr. █ who discovered the natives and helped their community to come forward into the modern civilisation. A treaty among Dr. █ and the natives was made to keep the location of the tree a secret. A document was prepared on which signed the elders of the tribe with their blood to keep the location of the natives and the tree a secret in exchange for modernisation and education for the people of the tribe.
The Tree of Mehag doesn’t bear any fruits and many methods were used to grow another similar kind of tree and all of them bear no results. The tree simply won’t reproduce. Recent developments show that it can help prevent Ebola too. A dedicated team of scientists are conducting research 24*7 to find out more about The Tree of Mehag. It keeps its contents hidden. Its effects cannot be replicated and no known medical compound acts the way that the samples obtained from The Tree of Mehag do. The natives believe that digging up the asteroid on which the tree rests would cause the tree to die immediately as it can be observed that a part of the huge tree is completely dead and dried up from the attempts of the native people trying to dig it up. Plans are being made to send a rover by digging a cave around the tree to obtain samples from the asteroid without harming the tree.
