A screencapture of SCP-XXXX awaiting user input

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Threat Level: Yellow

Proposed Special Containment Procedures:
One copy of SCP-XXXX is to be stored on a 128 MB flash storage device and kept in a standard electronic device containment locker at Site-73. The access code for this locker is to be changed weekly and shared only between the lead researcher and the Director of Site-73.

At the discretion of the lead researcher, copies may be hosted on a standard Foundation computer terminal for testing. Copies of any file to be used during testing of SCP-XXXX are to be stored on appropriately sized storage devices. These files must be created on a test by test basis, due to the behavior of SCP-XXXX.

Sensitive electronic documents may be destroyed through use of SCP-XXXX, so long as the appropriate RAISA1 request has been submitted and approved. Contact the lead researcher of SCP-XXXX for a copy of the form and submission instructions.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a cross platform computer program entitled "Burn_V2".

SCP-XXXX was written by an unknown student attending The University of [REDACTED]. On May ██ 2018, agents embedded in the IT Department of this institution discovered the first known instance of SCP-XXXX, following increased reports of rapid oxidation events in and around the campus. Data mining of SCP-XXXX has not revealed consistent data regarding the source code's primary language.2

On startup, SCP-XXXX will open a GUI consisting of an input field,a placeholder image, and a button labeled "Start Burn". Inputting the file path of any human readable text file, image file, or media file on the device hosting SCP-XXXX into the field will result in the message "Ready to Burn file" appearing below the input field, as well as an image representing the file. Inputting paths to other types of files will result in the message "Cannot burn a file of this type" appearing below the input field.

Clicking the "Start Burn" button after selecting a valid file will trigger the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX.

The file input to SCP-XXXX will be deleted from the device hosting the program. All other electronic devices storing the file input into the field will spontaneously combust once the "Start Burn" button is clicked. At the same time, an animation showing flames creeping up the front of the file accompanied by a percentage indicator will appear on SCP-XXXX. Controlled testing has shown that the percentage indicator corresponds to the percentage of devices containing the file that have been completely oxidized.

Copies of files input to SCP-XXXX which are kept as analog recordings or as physical documents do not suffer any anomalous effects. No attempts to prevent the destruction of a device affected by SCP-XXXX have been successful.

Copies of SCP-XXXX will run on any device capable of producing a GUI, receiving user input, and storage of the file to be input to SCP-XXXX.

Copies of SCP-XXXX have not been found outside of The University of [REDACTED] intranet. A network monitoring device has been installed which will alert embedded agents should new copies of SCP-XXXX be discovered on the campus network.
