Telescope Teleporter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5159 is to be contained in its standard dome located within its subsequent Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Containment of SCP-5159 is done simply through the keeping of anomalous properties from anyone of Level-2 clearance and below. Those with Level-3 clearance and above are to be informed of the anomalous properties upon arrival onsite. The Observatory which contains SCP-5159 is to be staffed by Foundation personnel in order to run Observatory programs as though it were a normal historical facility. This includes interacting with visiting civilians and giving historical tours, as well as allowing observations through onsite telescopes, including SCP-5159. Onsite staff must be versed in Observatory history and college level Astronomy and Physics. Staff will be hand selected based upon Astronomy interest and college education prior to working with The Foundation.

Description: SCP-5159 is a large 24” diameter refracting telescope, originally constructed in 1896 by “Alvan Clark & Sons.” The main length of the telescope assembly is 32’ in length, and is produced mostly of steel and brass components, with 5 wooden rotating handles located near the eyepiece. The telescope itself appears consistent with construction techniques and methods during the late 19th Century. The dome in which houses SCP-5159 is not believed to be anomalous in nature, but nonetheless, with its association with SCP-5159 it is given designation SCP-5159-A.
Properties associated with SCP-5159 have been observed to allow immediate transportation of any who are in physical contact, or who are engaged in viewing through SCP-5159 at 02:30 local time every day. The transportation of any affected individuals is directly related to where SCP-5159 is currently viewing. The method at which individuals are transported is still under investigation. At the point of reappearance of a subject, a gun-metal colored orb (dubbed SCP-5159-B) of unknown origin and chemical structure is left behind at the location where subjects reappear. This orb has been found to be the only means of returning to SCP-5159, but only after a period of 24 earth hours has passed. It is also known that only one instance of SCP-5159-B exists at any given point in time.
SCP-5159 was first discovered by foundation staff when reports of a local astronomer, Dr. Alan Stern, had been viewing through SCP-5159 on the night of 00/00/00. A colleague had been walking by SCP-5159, noted Dr. Stern still viewing, then proceeded to walk to another telescope onsite to ensure it was locked before returning to SCP-5159 to wish Dr. Stern a “goodnight.” It was then when the colleague noticed that within less than a minute Dr. Stern was no longer present. He then searched SCP-5159, as well as the observatory premises, only to find no sign of Dr. Stern. The unnamed colleague later proceeded to call the authorities, after his search, to file a missing persons report.
Foundation staff were informed of SCP-5159 when the phone call to the local authorities included words such as “vanished,” and “disappeared.” When authorities first arrived on scene, SCP-5159 was still tracking the object Dr. Stern was likely viewing. The shutters to SCP-5159-A were also still open as though observing was still taking place. This began a city-wide search for Dr. Stern which would later be halted by Foundation staff.

Misinformation was spread about Dr. Stern and a forged note was created stating that Dr. Stern had decided to leave the city, giving no information to his new whereabouts. All accounts owned by Dr. Stern were drained of funds or closed to keep the illusion that he had in fact left. No further issues regarding Dr. Stern have since appeared.
After the disappearance of Dr. Stern Foundation personnel were then placed within observatory staff and over the course of [Data Expunged] years, a number of foundation staff have managed to take up high level positions within the observatory and replace practically all members of staff with foundation personnel, apart from the Trustee Mr. [Data Expunged]. This has since allowed for containment of SCP-5159 to be practically infallible due to widespread Foundation personnel versed in the anomalous properties of SCP-5159.

Addendum 5159-1: Dr. White, 00/00/00
D-26987, a Caucasian male with no reported psychological issues, was instructed to view through SCP-5159 while SCP-5159-A's shutters were still closed. As D-26987 was viewing through the eyepiece at the wooden structure composing SCP-5159-A the moment the clock hit 02:30, the sudden disappearance and reappearance of the D-26987 occurred. As he had reappeared, he suddenly fell 30 feet to the ground. The impact resulted in breaking of his right leg and the dislocation of his right shoulder. After the test was conducted onsite medical staff transported him to the nearest Foundation owned medical facility for treatment.

Addendum 5159-2: Dr. White, 00/00/00
After the testing done with D-26987, it is currently believed that SCP-5159 has the ability to instantaneously transport those using SCP-5159 to the location at which it is pointed towards. An experiment with D-Class with the telescope pointed towards the summit of Mount Elden, the D-Class disappeared from within SCP-5159-A and was found immediately as the clock struck 02:30 at the location within the field of view. The D-Class was apprehended by Foundation security forces and returned for further testing.

Addendum 5159-3: Dr. White, 00/00/00
A later experiment with D-33289 was conducted with the telescope pointed at the center of Mare Crisium, a large mare located on the surface of the moon. The D-Class was provided audio and visual equipment, as well as a means of communication back to Dr. White. While D-33289 was initially concerned with the amount of equipment needed to simply view through a telescope, he nevertheless complied with personnel and began observation of the specified target. As expected, when the time reached 02:30, D-33289 disappeared from the site. Observation equipment was then studied, and it was noted that D-33289 was now standing on what was clearly the moon's surface. Upon arrival on the moon, a clear panic broke out through the video feed as D-33289 was seen attempting to run, before falling to the surface. His hands were then seen brought up to his chest and neck in an obvious sign of imminent asphyxiation. D-33289 ceased movement after approximately 18 seconds. Before vitals flat lined after only 43 seconds since reappearance.

Addendum 5159-3:
Due to the significant evidence as to the exact properties of SCP-5159 further testing is to be halted unless direct approval of the O-5 council is obtained.
