Item #: SCP-3953
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Sites 3953-A through E, located in an isolated forested region of northern Canada, are to be walled off using 5 meter high steel walls at least 5 centimeters thick, topped with barbed wire, with a 5 meter gap between the wall and any internal trees. Walls are placed on a further five meter deep, one meter wide foundation of reinforced concrete. Each section of the wall must be equipped with an electrification mechanism capable of delivering a shock range within 40 and 60 thousand volts. These walls are to be monitored, through the use of shock-proof cameras on the inside, by a specialized low-level artificial intelligence designed to pick up the presence of humanoid creatures and deliver a non-lethal shock to any attempting to scale or breach the wall. Cameras are to be inspected immediately by aerial drone in the aftermath of any breach attempt by site residents.
As each site is remote, they are to have a security detachment posing as park rangers, keeping non-Foundation personnel away from the enclosure. They are to be stationed at a building with a cold storage unit which is to be kept stocked weekly with fresh deer, cattle, or other regionally appropriate game carcasses butchered carcasses, with guts, bones, and other potentially usable materials removed. Suitable portions of food are to be dispensed over the top of the fence via crane twice each day. Video footage is to be analyzed monthly weekly to determine cultural, technological, and artistic development of inhabitants.
As a result of findings from Researcher ██████ ███, each team is now also to be accompanied by a drone with an automated warning system designed to detect if another humanoid is approaching, allowing them to specifically find and search any escapees. All efforts are to be made to find 3953-E-139 before it finds a way to cause further containment breaches.
Description: SCP-3953 is the designation of an ancient offshoot of humanity, classified Homo Ignotus, who developed the anomalous ability to alter perception of reality in order to escape detection.
Their appearance is of gray-skinned humanoids with overly large eyes, thin cheekbones, and a "long" face from forehead to jaw, due to a larger distance between the bottom of the nose and the (small, by comparison to a baseline human) opening for their oral cavity. Their bodies tend to be described as thin, short, and gangly by baseline humans, with the digits of their hands and feet slightly larger than you'd expect them to be for their size, ending in small but sharp claws. They have very little body hair, but do have sparse hair atop their heads with variation in coloring similar to that of Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Their eye colors tend towards silver or blue, and individual SCP-3953 members tend towards being slightly photosensitive. Their digestive system is more specialized than baseline humans, vastly preferring meat, particularly raw meat; while they are still omnivorous and can eat fruits, berries, and vegetables, it almost invariably gives them digestive problems that leave them irritable and weakened compared to a carnivorous diet.
While their heads appear large due to their lithe, gangly appearance, suggesting advanced intelligence, members of Homo Ignotus have reduced mental capacity beyond hunting. Current research suggests they feel a much duller range of emotions than Homo Sapiens Sapiens, and have not been observed to have progressed past a very primitive tribal society with minimalistic art and, even to modern days, struggle to use and understand tools more complex than a spear or club, although they have been witnessed as wearing crude furs for warmth in colder climates. They have yet to fully master the use of fire. SCP-3953 have their own language, primarily revolving around concepts of hunting, mating, safety, and predators (especially humans).
When hunting or fleeing predators, members of Homo Ignotus display an anomalous ability to "shift" in to a state that is hard to perceive by any creature that isn't specifically focused on trying to find them, including through remote cameras— although this ability does not apply to artificial intelligences, indicating it operates by effecting organic brains even through photographs and video, rather effecting the visual media itself. Even without this ability, they are notably skilled hunters, capable of taking normally predatorial species unaware, killing them quickly, and devouring their meat and blood raw in short order.
This, combined with their sharp teeth and strength (having the ability to overwhelm most adult baseline humans despite the size difference) allowed them to become apex predators in prehistoric times, before humanity developed tool usage. As humanity spread, the population of Homo Ignotus was hunted nearly to extinction, and only managed to survive in a few hardy populations in remote parts of the world. Of these, all but five were wiped out during containment efforts, and containment procedures have been put in place to maintain a stable population of around 150 per site.
Incident 3953-E-7: The SCP-3953 members of Site E have shown a substantial increase in technological capacity in the past generation. 3953-145, having crafted a crude slingshot-like ranged weapon using the intestines of a deer delivered to them the day prior, and began battering the door in to the containment site with rocks. Unit was terminated via sniper fire, and body disposed of via incineration. Containment procedures have been updated to account for this. The damage to interior cameras was not detected until a week later.
Addendum 3953-X: Following incident 3953I-E-7, an aerial reconnaissance drone was used to inspect all five sites using advanced sonar and thermal imaging. After analysis, the data confirmed that other sites had experienced rapid technological and cultural advancement, with complex artistic depictions upon tree bark and carved on to rocks, and more advanced dwelling construction being undertaken. Most worrisome, stockpiling of items, including armor crafted of wood, bone, and plant fiber, spears and arrowheads with stone materials, and bows indicate some kind of preparation for war.
Based on this data, researcher ██████ ████ looked at security footage from all sites, and found that on Site E, one camera had been damaged during 3953-E-145's escape attempt, rendering it unable to see a small portion of the wall. This camera has since been fixed, and a census of Site E's inhabitants have shown that 3953-E-145's mate, 3953-E-139, escaped custody and presumably has been finding ways to spread their technological and cultural advancement to the other tribes. Containment procedures have been updated, and MTF Ceta-Five, "HAL's Hand" has been formed to recapture 3953-E-139.
