Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be exposed to ultra violet light rays at all times to keep it in a “sleeping state”. In said sleeping state, SCP-XXX does not pose a threat, but it still must be handled with caution. In case of an electricity outage, the area is to be immediately evacuated and not accessed until power is restored. Personnel must not engage with any of their collueges who have been near SCP-XXX during the power shortage.

If an experiment is to be conducted where SCP-XXX is required to be put out of its neutral state, it first must be approved by two (2) Level 5 off-site administrators and at least one (1) off-site scientist. For the full duration of the experiment the emergency barrier between the SCP and the site must be down and at least ten (10) Level 3 security must be present. Every subject who has come in contact with the SCP must be quarantined for forty (40) days.

Personnel under level three (3) are not allowed within SCP-XXX, unless given written permission by two (2) off-site Level 5 administrators. For the duration of their contact with SCP-XXX, said person must be under the authorization of two (2) scientists and five (5) Level 3 personnel. Following contact, all personnel who have come in contact with the creature are to be quarantined for forty (40) days. During said forty (40) days the subjects are to be psychologically and physically evaluated. Personnel should not come in contact with said subjects.

Description: SCP-XXX resembles a metal box, yet experiments conducted thus far has proven SCP-XXX is much more resilient than any metal, even though the material composition would not allow for such durability. SCP-XXX’s dimensions are [DATA EXPUNGED] and weighs roughly [DATA EXPUNGED]. The SCP appears to have its own metabolism and has been deemed sentient. SCP-XXX appears to have a physical and mental toll on those who come in contact with the SCP in its hostile state. See [cross-ref:document00.018.701] for further detail.

The SCP spikes in metabolismic activity when any living organism is within [DATA EXPUNGED] of the creature. All the subjects who have come in contact with SCP-XXX in its hostile state have died in one (1) to fourteen (14) days. See [cross-ref:document00.018.701] for further detail.

Discovery and Recovery: SCP-XXX was first discovered in a corn field, South Alabama, by ██████ ██████. From now on, he will be referred to as SCP-XXX-1. SCP-XXX-1, baffled, takes the object to the local pub, where upwards of ██ people examine the creature. It is estimated that 1/5 of the town died that day alone.

This caught the Foundation’s attention, and two (2) months after the incident, on ██/██/1999, the first recovery crew was sent. The recovery crew did not return, presumably because they came in contact with the SCP. Two (2) years later, on ██/██/2001, the second recovery crew is sent, this time with twice the crew and equipment. The crew did not return. Three (3) years later a final recovery team was sent, and this time around the recovery team could figure out they had to avoid contact with SCP-XXX thanks to the field codes the previous two teams had left.

The team reported that they did not find any corpses or plants in the vicinity.

The team also reported [DATA EXPUNGED] attempted to █████ ████, going to show that the SCP had already started to have a mental toll on them. Every member of the recovery team failed psychological evaluation and had to retire. The members were found dead in their dwellings. See the interview Dr. ███████ had with Agent ██████.

Interviewed: Agent ██████ from the third recovery team.
Interviewer: Dr. ███████.

Foreword: Dr. ███████ is performing psychological evaluation on Agent ██████.

<Begin Log, [██/██/2001]>

Dr. ██████: [Agent ██████, do you mind if I just call you SCP-XXX-2?]

SCP-XXX-2 shakes his head up and down vigorously.
Dr. ██████: [Good. Now tell me, your team was missing [DATA EXPUNGED] people. Did you see how they died?]

SCP-XXX-2: [Yes. Richard was in the room with the SCP for roughly [DATA EXPUNGED]. We tried to distance ourselves from him. After a while he just dropped dead.

[DATA EXPUNGED]

There were no bruises, no cuts, no nothing.]

Dr. ██████: [How about ██████? Did you see how she died?]

SCP-XXX-2: [No.]

Dr. ██████: [That’s all?]

[SCP-XXX-2 does not respond.]

<End Log, [██/██/2001]>

Closing Statement:[SCP-XXX-2 refused to co-operate for the remaining 2 hours of the interview. His speech turned into indistinguishable ramblings as the interview went on. SCP-XXX-2 did not report for duty the following day. His body could not be reached despite the Foundation’s efforts.]
