Instance of SCP-4371-1 found outside of SCP-4371's containment unit at Site 19
Item #: SCP-4371
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-4371 is to have available two externally reinforced humanoid containment units, equipped with standard safety measures for low-risk humanoids as detailed in Document 0998-KA. One present at Site 19 and the other at Site 309, respectively, over a plot of concrete that is at least 15 meters in radius.
Additionally, SCP-4371 is allowed to freely traverse a predetermined section of the facilities, obviously barring anything that would result in a breach of security and or safety protocols, for walks and activities outside of testing for three hours, twice a day, and a fitting costume representing SCP-049, for good behavior. Should SCP-4371 break protocol, or intentionally violate the integrity of Foundation personnel, equipment or property, or that of any anomalies, any of its permitted benefits may be taken away at Site management’s discretion. SCP-4371 is to be moved from Site 19 to Site 309, and vice versa, once every six months.
During SCP-4371’s biannual absence from a Site, the floor of its containment unit and the predetermined section it is allowed to traverse is to be opened, following which all of the ground underneath it and a 15 meter radius is to be excavated from all instances of SCP-4371-1. Once all instances of SCP-4371-1 are collected, they are to be transferred to the onsite cafeteria and implemented along with the remaining food supply. With excavation complete, all dig sites are to be refilled in with concrete, then the reinforced steel floor is to be reinstalled.
Personnel assigned to guarding and monitoring SCP-4371 may not remain within 15 meters of it for more than two hours at a time. For additional safety, personnel interacting with SCP-4371’s area of influence are strongly advised to bring a pot of high quality soil with them. Upon concluding a shift, all personnel that have been within 15 meters of SCP-4371 for more than half an hour are to report to the nearest medical facility for a full physical checkup.
Description:
SCP-4371 is a young adult male of Arabic descent, discovered in the town of ████████, Germany. SCP-4371’s anomalous abilities manifest in instances of Citrullus Lanatus, dubbed SCP-4371-1, growing in any suitable environment within a 15 meter radius around it.
Three to five seedlings of SCP-4371-1 materialize in SCP-4371’s area of influence once between every half hour and two hours. Depending on how nutrient rich the environment they manifest in is, instances of SCP-4371-1 can grow to harvesting maturity, as well as a weight of ten kilograms and above, between three days and two months. Other than their ability to manifest out of nothing and the speed of their growth, instances of SCP-4371-1 have no other anomalous properties and are perfectly safe for consumption by humans.
Additionally, SCP-4371 tends to attract Citrullus Lanatus in various forms, both material and immaterial, to itself.
SCP-4371 has no conscious control over its abilities and prior to containment, it didn’t even know it had them.
Addendum 4371-1: Containment log ██/██/2014
SCP-4371 was discovered, while Foundation field agents were investigating reports of abnormal plant growth in the ████████ area. A full scale investigation was initiated after agents were alerted to the death of a high school student, who simply dropped dead on a basketball court. A later autopsy revealed six instances of Citrullus Lanatus plants growing inside of his body.
Following the incident, the Foundation began monitoring the growth of Citrullus Lanatus around the town, narrowing down the majority of instances occurring in one neighborhood and its local school. Deducing that a student or a school staff member was involved, monitoring shifted to the homes of those who attended the school, leading to the discovery of a house which had Citrullus Lanatus growing around it in larger quantities during the night, confirming that the anomaly’s source was within it.
After following the family members, the oldest son was discovered to be the source of SCP-4371, as instances of SCP-4371-1 would appear around them. Additionally, from observation of the family media, Foundation agents noted how SCP-4371 took part in a server of the social media platform known as Discord, dedicated to the discussion of the paranormal, where people would use emojis of Citrullus Lanatus slices as rewards and a kind of currency, holding occasional raffles where participants would “bid” said emojis and SCP-4371 would always win the ones it took part in.
Participants of the server found this to be quite humorous and would often joke by eluding that SCP-4371 had some kind of unnatural ability to attract Citrullus Lanatus to itself.
Investigation of whether SCP-4371 acquired its anomalous abilities from exposure to the server, interaction with someone on it, or if it had unknowingly spread its influence there is still undergoing. The server in question and all of its members are currently still under surveillance for any other anomalous activity.
Agent Malone has taken the role of filling in SCP-4371 presence on the server, to avoid suspicion from the other members.
