Memory Foam by Kayden Fox

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a sealed off room at all times. This is to prevent unauthorized personnel from entering rather than to keep SCP-XXXX inside. Only researchers with at least level 4 clearance and anyone authorized by such personnel may be allowed inside, and only for testing purposes. Lying down on SCP-XXXX outside of authorized tests is strictly prohibited.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a queen sized mattress, with the exact dimensions of 21.5 cm in height, 193.6 cm in width and 210.0 cm in length. It seems to be mostly made out of polyurethane as well as additional chemicals. Presumably, whenever somebody lies down on SCP-XXXX, they vanish, and all biological memory is erased of the individual. Written records, be it physically or digitally written are retained, but no known person will have any recollection of the person in question. If records are accurate, about 13 researchers, 176 D-class personnel and 2 sanitary workers have been erased from existence this way. It is also possible that they are merely transported to some unknown location, but no sightings have been made with anyone who appears in written records tied to SCP-XXXX. Another roughly 5000 occurrences of apparently fake records of people without any biological memory of them have been presumed to be connected to SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX was first found by the Foundation in Ireland, Cork, in 20██, by researcher Shane Flanagan, who currently only appears in recorded documents. By the accounts of papers regarding Flanagan, he has a wife and two children, of ages 9 and 15 at the time of the item's alleged acquisition. None of his supposed family remember any events related to him, but all evidence points towards him having existed, including birth certificates, degrees, family photos, and even personal journal entries by the wife. However, no trace of memory could be found of him, even through neuroscientific methods, monitoring subconscious brain functions. Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX it unfortunately took 3 months and 6 different studies before the nature of it was discovered.

Currently no other effects of SCP-XXXX are known. SCP-XXXX seems to have no effect on animals or inanimate objects. Artificial intelligence, however, appears to be affected. One of the Foundation’s AICs appears to have fallen victim to the effects of SCP-XXXX. Based on development and research records, an AIC by the name of Lauren existed, before a copy of her in an android body was ordered to lie down on SCP-XXXX. No trace of her body has been found to date. All source code of Lauren is also missing, in all source control instances, despite Foundation records clearly showing her development over several years. None of the personnel having worked on Lauren recall anything of her either.

SCP-XXXX has proven ineffective at erasing anomalous objects or entities, including sentient ones.
