Item #: SCP-4XXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX is to be stored in a Safe-Class Object Storage Locker at Site-64. Use of SCP-4XXX for testing is restricted to individuals possessing Clearance Level 2/4XXX or higher.
Description: SCP-4XXX is an IBM Personal Computer XT, built in 1983. SCP-4XXX does not require electricity to function, despite possessing a power cord that can be plugged into any American electrical outlet. It has several alterations and non-standard modifications of varying utility. Examples of these changes include, but are not limited to;
- A red screen color, rather than the standard green. What causes this coloration is currently unknown, as the standard phosphor coating known to cause the green color in monitors of computers of the same type is still present on the interior side of the screen. This effect is believed to be anomalous, but ultimately insignificant.
- The presence of an NVIDIA RTX 2080 GPU, crudely affixed to the back of the screen component of the computer with duct tape. There is no wired connections between this component and the computer, and it does not activate when the computer is turned on. It's significance, or impact on the computers performance is unknown. This unit is primarily used when running SCP-4XXX-4 and SCP-4XXX-6. Outside of operating while SCP-4XXX-4 or SCP-4XXX-6 are active, the component is usually inert.
- A floppy disk inserted inside the disk drive of the computer. It is theorized that this disk may be the cause of the computer's anomalous effects. Attempts to remove the disk have been met with failure, and are no longer to be attempted, to prevent damage to SCP-4XXX.
SCP-4XXX's effects manifest once the computer is activated. Upon activation, the user is met with a directory screen, showing eight files that can be accessed. These files are designated SCP-4XXX-1 through -8. This directory is labelled as X:\, and any attempts to switch to another directory have been met with failure, as all standard DOS commands tested have not produced a response from SCP-4XXX, other than commands explicitly related to opening one of the files listed. All effects produced by SCP-4XXX-1 through -8 have been tested and documented in Testing Logs 4XXX-1 and 4XXX-2. (See Addendum 4XXX-A.)
SCP-4XXX was recovered from a Chaos Insurgency storage facility alongside several other known SCP objects. SCP-4XXX's anomalous effects were discovered when it was accidentally powered on without having a determined power source, and it was assigned SCP classification after SCP-4XXX-1s effect was revealed. SCP-4XXX was then successfully contained.
