Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 2x2x2m fireproof steel weapons safe located in the north wing armoury at Site-93. The armoury is to be guarded by no less than four armed security personnel at all times. The safe is to be locked at all times unless SCP-XXXX is removed from its containment with approval of Dr. Cobălcescu for testing. During transport, SCP-XXXX is to be transferred from its containment into a secure transport container via the use of a telescoping grabbing arm. Under no circumstances are any staff to come in physical contact with SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX is considered a Class VI memetic hazard.

Description: SCP-XXXX is Ottoman Kilij; A type of sword used during the 15th century in areas of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. The sword has a blade measuring 69cm in length and 8cm in width (at its widest point). The blade is unadorned and forged of plain steel.1 The weapon has no visible maker's mark. The hilt is 15cm long and 2cm in diameter and is forged from silver and likewise lacks adornment. The weapon shows very little signs of tarnishing despite its presumed age and can cut to the subcutaneous layer with even a gentle touch.

SCP-XXXX has proven to be resistant to damage from conventional means and has withstood temperatures as high as 4000°C without any physical or chemical damage. Furthermore, SCP-XXXX has been registered as HRC 60 on the Rockwell hardness scale, and has proven impervious to compression, bending, and any form of impact damage. Attempts to sharpen SCP-XXXX with a 400-grit silicon carbide whetstone have resulted in visible damage or destruction to the whetstone and injury to or amputation of the sharpener's fingers.

SCP-XXXX does not exhibit any anomalous properties unless the hilt is held by a living person. Upon doing so, SCP-XXXX is to be considered active, and the person holding it is thereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. During an active instance of SCP-XXXX-1, any living humans within a radius of approximately 5m begin to experience a strong psychological urge to touch SCP-XXXX-1. Any persons that come into physical contact with SCP-XXXX-1 are to be considered lost and thereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-2 instances have been observed to show complete subservience to SCP-XXXX-1; this is exemplified by istances of SCP-XXXX-2 kneeling at the feet of instances of SCP-XXXX-1. Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 have been observed to be extremely protective of instances of SCP-XXXX-1, going so far as to attempt to shield the latter from the danger.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 exhibit the same anomalous behavior of instances of SCP-XXXX-1. Both SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXX-2 instances are observed to undergo extreme shifts in brain activity, with a 400% increase of activity in the right parahippocampal gyrus, and in 67% of cases, have been observed as speaking in Romanian regardless of individuals having any prior knowledge of the language. Instances also exhibit excellent teamwork and familiarity, even if individuals have never spoken prior to influence. Upon the termination of a SCP-XXXX-1 instance, any active SCP-XXXX-2 instances will attempt to recover SCP-XXXX. In the event that recovery is impossible, active SCP-XXXX-2 instances will attempt to self-terminate, usually by disembowelment. It should be noted, all SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 instances to date have shown heightened hostility towards uninfluenced persons and are to be approached with extreme caution.

SCP-XXXX was discovered in ██████, Romania, during archaeological digs in 197█. Local law enforcement was contacted to investigate a string of murders conducted in and around the digsite. The Foundation became aware of the existence of SCP-XXXX shortly after these murders, when Agent █████ was contacted by local informants to investigate. SCP-XXXX was then discovered in the possession of the digmaster. In the ensuing retrieval incident, ██ local law enforcement officers and civilian archaeologists were killed over the course of three weeks; please see Retrieval Incident #XXXX-1-A for details. SCP-XXXX was held briefly in temporary containment at Site-██ before being transferred to permanent containment at Site-93.

Retrieval Incident #XXXX-1-A: Following the initial discovery of SCP-XXXX, Foundation personnel were sent to analyze and retrieve. For three weeks after initial discovery, SCP-XXXX remained in possession of the first known instance of SCP-XXXX-1; the archaeologist in charge of the excavations. Upon being discovered, SCP-XXXX-1 fled to his residence along with seven instances of SCP-XXXX-2, identified as the remainder of the dig team, and immediately barricaded all entrances and exits. Listed below is a timeline of all engagements with instances SCP-XXXX-1. and SCP-XXXX-2.
