Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard object containment strongbox measuring 101.6cm x 36.83cm in Site 19. Permission from the Site Director and 2 additional senior research staff is required for testing.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a six-string electric guitar, bearing the maker's label of the Apollo Nihil Music Company on the back of the body. The neck is composed of mahogany wood, with a fingerboard made from ebony wood. The strings are standard, non-anomalous steel strings. The body was found to be made of an unknown wood with a rich, carmine color.
Anomalous effects manifest after a subject strums the strings, occurring in a series of stages.
Stage 1: Onset: Immediate: The subject, now designated SCP-XXXX-A, will find that they are proficient in playing the instrument, regardless of their usual level of musical ability or knowledge. SCP-XXXX-A will feel an impulse to improve their musical skill
Stage 2: Onset: 1 week-1 month: SCP-XXXX-A's desire to improve will gradually gain a feeling of intense pride in their ability to play complex pieces of music. This will surface in instances of SCP-XXXX-A finding any opportunity to play SCP-XXXX at social events. SCP-XXXX-A will also be resistant to allowing others to play or even hold SCP-XXXX.
Stage 3: Onset: 4-5 months: SCP-XXXX-A's pride in their skills will shift into severe egotism. At this point, SCP-XXXX-A will seek fame in the music industry as a performer, potentially joining a previously established band or, more likely, forming a band of their own.
Stage 4: Onset: 7-10 months: SCP-XXXX-A will feel that their musical skills have stagnated. This will also bring intense mood swings, with SCP-XXXX-A lashing out at loved ones and band members, blaming them for the apparent lack of improvement.
Stage 5: Onset: 12 months: SCP-XXXX-A will "realize" that the only way to gain further musical ability is too "feed" SCP-XXXX with blood. SCP-XXXX-A will then use SCP-XXXX to bludgeon a victim to death. Upon the victim's death, music played on SCP-XXXX will be considered by SCP-XXXX-A to be objectively perfect. This state lasts for an average of thirty (30) days, at which point SCP-XXXX-A will once again feel the need to commit murder with SCP-XXXX.
Discovery: Mobile Task Force Eta-9 ("Hear No Evil") was sent on an undercover assignment to investigate the members of the band Comet Euphony. During a performance in P██████, Oregon the lead guitarist and singer of the band, Thomas [REDACTED], came back onstage after an intermission alone and covered in blood, later revealed to be that of his band members.
The following debriefing on the incident as well as the operation as a whole was conducted after the containment of SCP-XXXX & the apprehension of Mr. [Redacted].
Another interview was later conducted with Thomas [REDACTED] regarding the acquisition of SCP-XXXX
Closing Statement: Thomas [REDACTED] was administered Grade-A amnestics and placed in the custody of P██████ Police Bureau. A cover story was circulated through media outlets of a musician killing his band mates in a drug-fueled craze. A search of Thomas [REDACTED]'s apartment in M█████, California revealed a receipt for SCP-XXXX from a music store named 'Lyre Lyre'. Investigative teams sent to the address listed revealed that the store had been closed the day of the guitar's purchase due to a personal emergency of the owner's. Investigation into the "Apollo Nihil Music Company" is ongoing.
