The Birdhouse

(This is still an early stage draft and has not been formally proofread, so bear with me.)

SCP-####.

Item #: SCP-####

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: The property containing SCP-#### has been purchased by the Foundation. To monitor and conduct experimentation, At least two ATPD1 personnel living as the homeowner and family are permanently stationed inside the property. Media reports concerning sightings of "invisible birds" or similar phenomena are to be suppressed.

In order to prevent the creation of additional SCP-####-3 instances, SCP-#### is to be blocked by tying a small cage with a sensor-triggered gate to the entrance, thus denying unauthorized entry.

Description: SCP-#### is a small birdhouse constructed from cedar-bark plywood, screws, and wood glue with a 2.8cm hole for entry. SCP-#### appears to have been attached to a P. Ps. █████████ using commonly available Robinson screws. Any attempt to separate SCP-#### from the tree, to cut down, or dig out the tree itself results in violent rejection of the offending instrument and possible injury.

The species of tree is redacted due to the fact that this subspecies is only endemic to where the SCP is located. Secrecy of the location may be important in order to prevent GoI activity as, aside from the research team, there is no security beyond keeping prying civilians out.

SCP-#### contains an extradimensional entity that is believed to be accessed by a spatial anomaly, designated as SCP-####-1. Birds that enter SCP-#### are observed to disappear once they pass through the entrance. However, anything "attached" to the bird, such as debris, or strapped-on equipment, also appears to "pass through". Attempts at entry via tether, microdrone, radio signals, and usage of other organisms has proven unsuccessful as they merely enter the box and do not experience anomalous effects. SCP-####-1 does not appear to distort local spacetime, but has exhibited marginally higher Hume levels compared to its surroundings.

There's some bloat here and extraneous details that can be removed. While the original idea was "Tunnel to another world", I'm going more with "Transformation to the 4D SCP."

Birds that have vanished within SCP-#### have thus far been recorded falling through a "tunnel" or "well" of warped spacetime before arriving into an as-of-yet unknown location, designated SCP-####-2. SCP-####-2 is theorized to be a three-dimensional representation of fourth2 dimensional space-time. SCP-####-2 appears as a void of immeasurable size and possesses severely elevated Hume levels3 indicating its extra dimensional properties. No apparent gravity exists within SCP-####-2, until a room is entered.

SCP-####-2 contains a potentially, or practically infinite series of "Rooms" (Name owing to their cubical shape) of variable size that may represent or "be" select areas of space-time. There is no apparent causal or meaningful link between these "rooms" other than all observed locations being on Earth. Although physical third-dimensional objects within these rooms are considerably easier to manipulate using SCP-####-2, subjects are still restricted by their physical capabilities.

Multiple recorded instances4 of what have been determined to be members of various species of small songbirds are present within SCP-####-2. These birds, designated as SCP-####-3 instances, have been observed partially emerging as three-dimensional cross sections into baseline reality. Owing to a lack of data-gathering resources, information on the age, diet, anomalous effects on behavior, etc. of SCP-####-3 instances are unknown. SCP-####-3 instances typically cannot be perceived or interacted with, however they will still respond to provocations according to normal bird behavior.

It has been previously suggested that I should omit sections of the description so that I can "show" the reader with the exploration logs instead.

Addendum 1A: Exploration Logs

Maybe include a "Access forbidden to personnel under blah blah blah clearance" graphic here, although I don't really have a good reason other than being "redact-happy".
At least two other exploration logs are planned. One will "explain" how the Foundation determined some other properties of the SCP object, and the last one… well, I'm not that far yet.
Addendum 1B: Addendum 1C:

And that's the draft. Before it's ready for the draft forum, there are three major elements that need to be addressed before this starts to seriously take off.

  1. There's no narrative that ties everything together. No real story. It's a purely technical document about a birdhouse that makes 4D birds. I can accomplish this through fleshing out the exploration logs.
  2. Bloat. There's a ton of tacked on information here that is not critical to the planned story and is just there to fill up space. That's not good, because I don't want the reader losing interest halfway through.
  3. Some major issues with the concept itself need to be examined, as they are not really the meat of the article and are tacked on just to look cool, or because they're an idle curiousity of mine.

Ultimately, I hope to deliver both a good SCP, and a really cool concept. Thank you for reading.
