Item #: SCP-####
Object Class: Safe (SCP-####-1 and SCP-####-2), Keter (SCP-####-3)
Special Containment Procedures: If SCP-####-1/2 is cooperative, refer to Procedure ####-A. If it is not compliant, makes threats, or otherwise demonstrates hostility, consult Procedure ####-B. If SCP-####-3 is active and has breached containment or threatens to do so, employ Procedure ####-C.
Procedure ####-A: SCP-####-1-2 is to be kept in a residential chamber with reinforced walls and steel doors. Annexed to this chamber will be a secure holding cell and a "meditation room" built to resemble a forest, including simulated sound, scent, and wind. SCP-####-1-2 is allowed to roam the facility when in the accompaniment of a security officer, but if it is found outside its chambers without an escort, especially in areas with large numbers of people, it is to be sent back to its chamber immediately.
While in its chamber, SCP-####-1-2 is to be monitored, by camera or directly, at least once in any 15-minute period. Guards should take care not to greatly upset SCP-####-1, for fear of provoking ####-3. Any material requests ####-1 makes are to be forwarded to a Containment Specialist for approval.
No instance of SCP-####-2 will be host to ####-1 for more than seven (7) days, and a D-class personnel or a volunteer will be provided as a new host. Both ####-1 and the previous ####-2 will be admitted to a psychiatric analysis shortly after transferral.
Procedure ####-B: If SCP-####-1-2 is refusing to cooperate, it is to be confined to a holding cell until it is willing to cooperate again (if necessary, #### can be easily subdued using electrified weaponry). If SCP-####-3 begins showing signs of activity, transfer SCP-#### to its "meditation room".
Procedure ####-C: If SCP-####-3 is active, it is to be incapacitated as quickly as possible with electrified nets. Once ####-3 has been reduced to a manageable size, ####-1 is to be retrieved, locked in a briefcase lined with an electrified mesh, and transported to its meditation room. ####-1 will be provided a new host if SCP-####-2 has not survived the appearance of ####-3, and locked in this room for at least six (6) hours, until ####-3 demonstrates no more signs of activity. If necessary, further electric shocks can be used to expedite the process. After breach has been contained, return schedule to Procedure A.
Description: SCP-####-1, or "Cothurnus", as it calls itself, is an ornate mask of unknown origin, bearing the highly stylized image of a weeping face. SCP-####-1 is sentient, vocal, and behaves much like an adult human.
####-1 has the ability to remotely connect with and control the actions of any mammalian creature who wears it. It claims to have no control over this ability and it seems to reflexively activate as soon as it is placed on a subject's face. When ####-1 is placed on the face of a subject (which will be referred to as SCP-####-2 until the connection is terminated; any discussion regarding SCP-####-1 and SCP-####-2 as a unit will be written as SCP-####-1-2), SCP-####-2's brainstem begins to change shape, forming into a toroidal structure, dubbed the "interface". This formation appears to be essential to SCP-####-1's abilities and persists after the end of possession, but has no apparent anomalous effect when not hosting ####-1. ####-2's brain shows normal function during possession, aside from increased levels of fear and stress, but when nerve signals would normally travel from the brain to other parts of the nervous system, they instead terminate in the interface and are substituted with SCP-####-1's own, allowing it to control ####-2's body as if it was its own. This interface also grants SCP-####-1 and SCP-####-2 some form of telepathic communication. This connection may theoretically be able to persist indefinitely, but can be terminated by three known methods:
SCP-####-1 is removed from SCP-####-2's face for approximately five (5) minutes
####-1 and ####-2 are transported approximately 100 meters from one another
####-1 takes a new host, upon which the new host will be called SCP-####-2.
During possession, SCP-####-2 demonstrates a decrease in body temperature by up to 10°C, depending on how long it has been wearing the mask.
After a host is removed from ####-1's influence, it will temporarily exhibit symptoms of anxiety, schizophrenia, ascendant identity, arrhythmia, and/or hypothermia, of duration and severity correlated to how long it served as ####-1's host.
The surface on the back of ####-1 appears to be a portal to a pocket dimension, and it is known to store small objects inside. Objects known to be kept in SCP-####-1's storage space include:
A sketchbook, assorted paints and other art supplies
A collection of keys (obtained prior to confinement)
Assorted small hardware tools
Small sums of money in a variety of nationalities (obtained prior to confinement)

SCP-####-3
SCP-####-3 is a creature that apparently resides inside SCP-####-1's storage space. Foundation officials know little of it, as it never fully emerges from ####-1's pocket dimension, but its tentacles can often be seen coming out of the mask. These tentacles can range anywhere from █ to ██ feet long and are extremely strong. They are covered in a viscous black substance that has been identified as ████████. When ####-1 takes a host, ####-3's tentacles emerge and wrap around ####-2's head. While this is normally the extent of ####-3's activity, certain conditions can cause it to become more active and emerge to a greater degree. Observation and ####-1's accounts indicate that ####-3's presence correlates to ####-1's present emotional state and how long it has been without a host. In this state of increased activity, ####-3 is hostile and very destructive.
Some Foundation officials believe that it is merely a part of ####-1. However, due to ####-1's fear of it and active promotion of its containment, this theory is presently considered unlikely and the two are to be considered separate entities. ####-1 claims to be able to perceive ####-3's thoughts similarly to ####-2's, and that it is animalistic and desires little more than to cause destruction.
SCP-####-1-2 was discovered when it actively sought out a group of SCP officers, informing them of its identity and the dangers of ####-3. ####-1 was taken into custody and agreed to help design containment procedures in exchange for assistance in controlling SCP-####-3.
