Item#: SCP-5337

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5377 is laminated and encased inside a acrylic casing, locked within a hermetically sealed tungsten lock box held at site-64.

In order to prevent the appearance of SCP-5337-1, procedure 309-Vigilance is to be carried out continuously by rotating members of MTF Delta-9 (Fan Boys) in order to contain the entity.

Testing involving SCP-5337 has been suspended indefinitely in light of Incident-5337-████. Access to SCP-5337 is strictly forbidden. Any individual attempting to enter SCP-5337s containment area is to be terminated with prejudice.

Description: SCP-5337 is a standard sized comic book, the cover and proceeding pages are blank. There are 24 pages in total; though tests have shown this number to increase or decrease when SCP-5337s anomalous properties are active. The lowest number of pages being 6. Composition of the paper matches that of a standard issue comic book and bares no logos or marks indicating a manufacturer.

SCP-5337s anomalous properties manifest when held by a humanoid subject. Any obstructions between subject and SCP-5337, such as gloves, will not trigger its effects. Effects last until the story is finished, or the item is no longer in contact with the subject.

When held by a subject, the cover and subsequent pages of SCP-5337 will be filled with colored images indicative of a standard comic book. Subjects state that this seems to happen instantaneously, which is confirmed by surveillance. The method by which this takes place is unknown. Comics produced are typically of the American style, but various art styles and storytelling methods have been observed, with manga being the most frequent variant.

Instances produced by SCP-5337 can manifest into one of two types: SCP-5337-A, and SCP-5337-B. SCP-5337-A instances will produce a comic whose characters and story are unique, in that they do not appear in any established comic or other medium. SCP-5337-B instances are comics that feature established characters, though with a unique story similar to what one would expect of "fan fiction".

The following details have been noted in all testing depending on which type is produced:

-Subjects holding SCP-5337 will always be featured in either instance, usually as an essential character. Subjects have filled the role of protagonist, ally, antagonist, minor antagonist and romantic interest. Though some test has shown subject to be a bystander.

-The art style and method of story telling varies dependent of the subject’s comic knowledge, preference, and in some cases race and culture. Test on D-class who are of Japanese descent typically will produce a manga.

-Established characters seen in SCP-5337-B appear to maintain their abilities and personalities they are known for, though some variations can be noted.1

-SCP-5337-B instances have shown heroes/villains from competing companies present in the same story, regardless of having been in a crossover.

-Instances have produced stories that feature or reference either the Foundation, rival organizations, GUI and POI, and or anomalous entities regardless of current containment status.2

Discovery: SCP-5337 was discovered in the home of one Michael R████, located in ██████, New York, 03/25/2016. Michael was reported missing by a coworker at a local comic book shop after a week of absence. He was last seen leaving the store carrying a “strange” comic that was not sold at the store. A Foundation member present in store at the time of report, was able to acquire the address and proceeded to investigate.

Michael was unable to be located, however, SCP-5377 was observed on the floor in the living room in its inactive state. The item became active when a recovery agent picked up SCP-5337 without the use of gloves. Agent was reprimanded for negligence and the item was brought in for testing.
