The Thrice Blessed
Blessed, Blood Magicians, The Multiverse’s Biggest Shitshow, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Sarkism12
Conspectus
The thrice blessed are a group of thaumaturgy practitioners, originating from the group of universes now known by the Jailers as Multiverse Cluster B893. Named for what they allegedly told Lord Blackwood when he first encountered them on one of his many adventures, legend has it, when asked who they were, Tabia the Wise replied ‘We are a people of three blessings: our lives, our magic, and our will’ giving them their name. For unknown reasons, their magic reacts negatively to several other types of magic in MCB89, particularly those who were affected by the Arole Stone.45 They are primarily occupied with infighting and war, and rarely leave their cluster.67
Knowledge
Traits: Each member of the Thrice Blessed are able to utilize their magic one of three ways: by talking, writing, or movement. How they access it has no bearing on their capabilities as a magician, and there is no way to predict how any one person accesses their magic. An unknown number of them, estimated to be anywhere from 2 to 30 percent of the population, can access a subtype of thaumaturgy, usually called blood or sacrificial magic.89 Those with this ability can use pain, their own or others, to power their spells. This ability appears seemingly at random, and only in the Thrice Blessed people, though similar forms of magic, such as Sarkism, do exist.101112
Nature: While the Thrice Blessed can use their magic outside of MCB89, it is significantly weakened. Other, more common types of thaumaturgy do exist in MCB89, so its presence doesn’t interrupt other types of magic.131415 Where the Blessed’s magic comes from, and why it reacts so strongly to Arole energy, also found in MCB89 is unknown. The ‘base’ magic is accessed by speaking, writing, or movement, depending on the individual. This difference seems to be purely aesthetic, as they all have the same base abilities. Blood magic, accessed in the same way as their base magic, allows them to increase the power of their spells, and have limited control over most biological material. When casting a spell, the caster’s writing/speaking/movement is indecipherable to all but the caster, and the target, unless the observer is using specialized spells to be able to comprehend them. It is notoriously difficult to learn to cast spells, often taking years of practice, but once the first spell is learned, it becomes significantly easier.16
History and Associated Parties: The Thrice Blessed have been a part of MCB89 for as long as humanity has existed.17 The divide between the blood magicians and others has only sprung into being about a thousand years ago. It supposedly started when a group of blood magicians massacred a village18, sparking fear and hatred.19 Today, the RPF, or Renewed Protection Force, controls most of MCB89, and is trying to take the rest. It enforces a strict policy of reeducation for blood magicians, and is significantly prejudiced. The IPU, or Independent Progress Union, is the second most popular political group, with about 45% of the population and 32% of the government. They have advocated for downsizing the reeducation20212223 programs and a few of them have tried for a ceasefire with the MPL. The RPF and IPU together control the United Acroshan Territories, which encompasses most of MCB89, with the rest controlled by the MPL. The MPL, or Modern Peace League, is fighting against the RPF and IPU, with the end goal of stopping the efforts against blood magicians, which comprise about 90% of their members. A large number of organizations support the MPL in a variety of ways, including some of the Hand, Manna Charitable Foundation, and a few Sarkists.24 To be frank, without this support, the MPL would be in a much worse situation.
Approach: The Thrice Blessed are all individuals, like any other people. Approach with the caution one would use when approaching any other thaumaturge.2526272829 If one siphons power from Arole energy, significant spells and enchanted objects, most commonly teleportation and other spells used for traveling, you will react negatively, feeling ill, but there have been no known deaths.30 The reason why is unknown.
Observations and Stories
“They’re people, guys. This shouldn’t be up for debate. I’ve studied the MCB89 cluster for decades - they are people like everyone else. However, unless the current government is overhauled, I doubt things will improve” - Chor, Scholar of the Stars
“God, it’s awful there. Our houses are falling apart, the schools system is terrible, and the economy stagnant. Yet we hear about how many people they’ve killed and cheer, blaming our problems on people who are thousands of miles away.” - Anonymous, someone who lived in and escaped the United Acroshan Territories.
“It has been shown time and time again that blood magicians and those who stand by them wish only to hurt the Territories. Our priority must be our own safety and prosperity”. - The 145th President of the United Acroshan Territories, Ms. Sirah Orsay
Doubt
There have been many theories on the base mechanics of the Blessed’s magic. One theory, posed by Pre - Schism Scholar Sora Louw, states that magic is, at its core, powered by sacrifice, and that blood magicians had sacrificed something everyone else had not. A contrasting theory was posed by Ael Lee, Post - Schism that there is some environmental factor that creates blood magicians, or some sort of natural law requiring there to be a certain number of them, sparking numerous superstitions on how to avoid becoming one. While neither of these theories have been proven, a significant amount of information relating to the Blessed, such as history and sociology, has been discovered by those wanting to prove one or the other.31
