Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX are stored in a locker within Site-███, centred on a supporting pillar. Both the locker and the platform are lined with stainless steel to provide resistance against SCP-XXXX's corrosive qualities.

SCP-XXXX's chamber interior is not self-contained and requires constant revision of its weathering process. Corrosion of the cell bypassing 20% interior degradation puts it in repair priority; during repair, any persons involved in the procedure are required to wear appropriate gear and are to make no contact with SCP-XXXX for extended periods of time.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a bar of soap retrieved on ██/█/2006, from a residence in Cornwall, England. The house in question was unoccupied at the time and the residents, including their involvement with SCP-XXXX, are currently still unknown. SCP-XXXX was in a bodycare gift bag alongside 3 other potentially anomalous objects and a note.

SCP-XXXX is white with the company name and slogan engraved on the top of the bar. Subjects with prolonged exposure to its effects reported that SCP-XXXX had hue tones pertaining to the individual's favourite colour, as well as the subject's favourite scent (accompanied by descriptors such as 'clean' or 'crisp'.) The engraved words on the top of the bar read 'Perfection' in cursive, presumably the company name, as well as 'be the best you,' written in smaller font. SCP-XXXX is considered a limited edition product, and to date over 80 instances of it have been found.

When in contact with an individual, SCP-XXXX is capable of completely removing any personally perceived imperfections in the area of usage (see SCP-XXXX Attached Note document.) All ''imperfections'' are preconceived notions made by the individual themselves, based on their ideas of perfection and not on judgement from the presumed creator themselves. To date, only a few incidences prove divergent to this rule, all in the context of impersonal use.

The rate at which SCP-XXXX slivers with use is 5x quicker than a baseline bar of soap, despite testing indicating that the materials and makeup of SCP-XXXX is consistent with non-anomalous brandname soaps.

The side-effects of SCP-XXXX worsen in severity with the regularity of use. Documented below is a record of the stages associated with SCP-XXXX application.
Time of exposure Stage Side-effects
Bianually Stage 1 Usual anomalous effects; no side-effects
Every 5 months Stage 2 Superficially increased self confidence; lack of use for a month after leads to withdrawal and body image plummeting
Every 3-4 months Stage 3 Delusions of grandeur shortly after usage; usually accompanied by worse mood plummets than Stage 2 during withdrawal
Monthly Stage 4 Perpetual self image issues even after usage; expectations of perfection; disappointment, increased feeling of dependence on SCP-XXXX. Desire to recommend the product to others
Biweekly Stage 5 Financial stress due to mass-consumption of - or attempt to purchase - more SCP-XXXX, due to slivering or psychological dependence. Obsession and idolization of mannequins, celebrities, popular internet figures on vlogging or selfie platforms, etc. Active advertisement of SCP-XXXX on social media and in real life scenarios. Subjects often extend their ideals to personality and personal lives as well as physical beauty.
+ Stage 6 Subjects in Stage 6 will attempt to use SCP-XXXX unconventionally, engaging in ritualised acts of self-mutilation (often disembowelment) and attempting to apply the soap [REDACTED]. Subjects will still experience and vocalize pain, though it doesn't stop or hinder the process. Subjects expire usually half-way through the process or even during self-mutilation, usually due to shock, exsanguination, or [REDACTED].

The only biological life that SCP-XXXX influences is humans; however, multiple tests have shown that numerous inanimate objects are affected by an unidentified corrosive quality when in contact with SCP-XXXX. This includes:

  • Competitor brandname soaps
  • Places or artifacts of religious worship
  • [REDACTED]
  • Any material used to contain or seal it1
  • Any item of text promoting self-care (exempting self-care advice encouraging cleanliness and self-presentation), self-acceptance, and anti-materialistic ideologies.
