Michael was typically a guy's name according to everyone goodCavalreaper asked online. Sure, it was the number one name for boys when they were born, but if you went back a few years you can clearly see that .01% of girls had that name too. GC could be pretty sure that meant Michael can be considered gender neutral. Plus, why should they have to change their name? There was nothing dysphoric about being called Michael.. well okay maybe being called Mike became a little weird now. But that's okay, right? Just don't call them "Mike".. except everyone always did.. because Mike was just short for Michael. You literally could not say "Michael" out loud without saying "Mike".
Okay, I won't tell them my first name. I'll just go by goodCavalreaper or GC. That'll work. goodCavalreaper thought to themself. They then proceeded to message their friend still insisting on using a cringey "typing quirk" from Homestuck. Yes, they are one of those people.1

It still felt weird for them to insist on not being called a man. I mean, does that imply that I'm a girl or something? That kind of felt dishonest to goodCavalreaper. Regardless, it's not like wheels had any mal intent with what he said.
GC met wheelonwheels in a Minecraft server a few months ago. Now, goodCavalreaper was not a relatively easy going person, so the two were a bit of the Odd Couple. They never gotten used to Wheels' hypersocial nature. It seemed to GC that he was always talking to someone online.
Unlike goodCavalreaper, wheelonwheels was pretty special. The dude has magic powers. How can I even begin to compare myself to him?!
GC generally imagined they had the most unique reaction to that initial surprise. The two were in a Skype call (or was it Teamspeak?), and Wheels suddenly decided then was the time to make the reveal.
GC began pacing around in their dorm room, easily growing more and more anxious. Wheels really didn't tell them much about what to expect today. All goodCavalreaper knew was that he was inviting them to some Homestuck group. GC brushed it off at first, but Wheels kept being insistent that there was something special about this.
The weird part of it all was that Wheels never even read Homestuck.2

Despite initially being a chat dedicated to Homestuck, goodCavalreaper spent most of their afternoon talking about magic and stuff. A few times, acuterobot would ask GC a Homestuck-related question, but the majority of the people online would soon get distracted by something else. It made GC slightly uncomfortable how much non-Homestuck stuff was discussed in a Homestuck-exclusive chat.
They almost were ready to call the day a wash, a waste of an entire Sunday even. They could've probably have been doing homework or something, right? In all likelihood, probably not, but that didn't stop GC from feeling bad about it. Just when the angst and despair was taking hold of goodCavalreaper, they received a message.
