Item #: SCP-4583

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4583 is to be held in a 5m x 5m x 5m room with no direct access to sunlight, save for a completely clear window, with both remote and manually controlled segmented shutters, which can block out natural light completely. The segments on the shutters can be controlled precisely, to the point that each segment can be articulated separately. This is so that sunlight could be manipulated to hit the desired point of SCP-4583 precisely. SCP-4583 is only to be held in the stretching rig (designed by Doctor [REDACTED]), directly in front of the window. No folding or creasing allowed on SCP-4583, it is to be kept completely smooth and stretched out at all times. This is to prevent light to hit it at an unpredictable angle. Only artificial lighting is to be used in the containment room, using standard-issue [REDACTED] made, 25W light bulbs with a maximum visible light of 230 lumens.

Description: SCP-4583 looks like an ordinary, semi-opaque, baige colored curtain, made from silk, 2,5m x 2m x 0,002m in dimensions. It was manufactured in [REDACTED], by [REDACTED]. Analysis did not reveal any difference from curtains of the exact same type from the same or similar manufacturers. SCP-4583 is extremely durable, as it suffers no visible damage from extreme attempts to damage it. Doctor ████ tried to ignite it with conventional methods, including a flamethrower and a high-capacity laser of 3000W in power, with no visible damage. Doctor ████ also attempted to freeze and shatter it, using liquid nitrogen, with no effect. Agent ████ attempted to damage it with a Colt AR-15, but SCP-4583 deflected the rounds, harming ██ and killing ██ personnel in the process., including Agent ████. The anomalous properties of SCP-4583 become apparent, when it is exposed to direct sunlight. When SCP-4583 is exposed to direct sunlight, it refracts light. The way SPC-4583 refracts light is remarkably similar to a triangular dispersive prism, meaning that it breaks up light to its spectral components (i.e. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). When the light refracted from SCP-4583 hits any kind of object, said light produces an effect. Description of the effects are included in the following list:

Red – The red light refracted from SCP-4583 heats up the surface it hits to extreme temperatures up to approximately 75000c°. The light, thus the heat generated by it exhibits endothermic characteristics, meaning it does not affect the surrounding area, only the surface it comes in contact with. Experiments included, but were not limited to the melting of steel, thorium, tungsten and carbon, the instant vaporization of water, and █ Class D personnel.

Orange – The orange light refracted from SCP-4583 has no physical effects, instead it induces a strong emotional response from humans. Subjects that came in contact with the orange light reported an overwhelming feeling calmness and bittersweet nostalgia. Subjects found hard to break contact with the light, in some cases requiring tenacious persuasion, or outright physical force to make them break contact with it.

Yellow – The yellow light refracted from SCP-4583 has no anomalous effects on any surface that is not colored in a similar shade of yellow as the light itself. Data still inconclusive on what exactly constitutes as “similar shade”. When the light comes in contact with a similarly colored surface, it turns it to raw, liquid honey. The honey proved to be completely normal and edible. Testing concluded that the effect has the limitation of the exact reach of the color of the surface. For example, a bucket painted yellow will not turn into honey in its entirety, only the coat of yellow paint covering the bucket does. In a test conducted by Dr. ████, a Class D personnel’s body was painted completely yellow, but only the paint turned to honey.

Green – The green light refracted from SCP-4583 turns any surface it comes in contact with to green, [REDACTED] brand color oil slime. The reach of the effect is similar as described in the section of the color yellow.

Indigo – The indigo light refracted from SCP-4583 opens a portal on any surface, leading to the Pacific Ocean, latitude [EXPUNGED], longitude [EXPUNGED]. The portal becomes active approximately one and a half minutes after its formation and remains active for a period of exactly two minutes. After closing, the portal reforms after five hours. The size of the portal corresponds to the size of the light and the surface it comes in contact with. In the event that the portal becomes active, seawater from the specified area will start to pour out of it, with a volumetric flow rate of 0,5m3/s, regardless of the size of the wormhole, meaning the portal produces 45000 liters of water from a single activation cycle. Given the nature of this anomaly, the smaller the surface is, the higher the pressure of the water stream becomes, seeing how the volumetric flow rate is constant, regardless of the size of the portal.

Violet – The violet light refracted from SCP-4583 turns any object into what is assumed to be dark matter. Given the hypothetical. unexplained nature and lack of scientific understanding of the matter, it is only theorized whether the material is actually “dark matter”. Regardless, the material that remains after the violet light exhibits characteristics of deep space, but does not seem to effect the area surrounding it.
