Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX-A Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX-A is to be contained in airtight beakers made of bullet proof, shatter resistant glass, which are to be stored in a locked refrigerator set to -25 degrees Celsius. The refrigerator is to be located in an air sealed containment cell, with standard laboratory equipment for occasional testing on-site.

SCP-XXXX-A's containment cell is to have its own separate self sustaining ventilation system from the rest of the facility, with filters capable of filtrating substances .5 micrometers in size. Air from the room is to be constantly recirculated. If it is required air to be released due to maintenance purposes, proper sterilization procedures are to be followed under directive of personal with level 4 clearance or higher. Under no circumstances are any personnel to attempt to study SCP XXXX unless under personal directive from a level 3 researcher. The entrance to SCP - XXXX-A's containment cell is to consist of two, two-door airlock systems.

SCP-XXXX-B Containment Procedures:

Instances of SCP-XXXX-B are to be contained in a standard, air-tight, humanoid containment cell. Cell walls are equipped with concealed flamethrower nozzles. A flame retardant camera, microphone, and speaker system is to also be present within the cell. Entrance is via a two-way airlock. No staff is permitted into SCP-XXXX-B containment cell under any circumstances. If maintenance is required on the room, all instances should be terminated and the room sterilized before entry. Stave VI infected SCP-XXXX-B instances should be sterilized via flames twice weekly.

SCP-XXXX-Z Containment Procedures:

A Provisional Facility is to be maintained around SCP-XXXX-Z with living space for up to thirty staff members, an on-site lab, and security checkpoints.

All crevices to SCP-XXXX-Z are to be collapsed and air sealed, except for a main entrance with a two way air-lock. This entrance is to be guarded by three facility guards at all times. A hidden, closed-caption security system is to be put in place by the entrance and any fissure close to SCP-XXXX-Z large enough to contain a person.

Entrance into SCP-XXXX-Z must be cleared by a level 3 researcher. Individuals must wear a bio-hazard suit, and any excavating materials or other sharp items are forbidden.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is an a highly contagious virulent parasitoid which transmits via air, water, and exposure to skin / bodily fluids. SCP-XXXX is currently only known to infect Homo Sapiens. Infection and mortality rates are currently 100%. Humans known to be infected with SCP-XXXX are to be labeled SCP-XXXX-B.

SCP-XXXX-A:

Preceding Infection:

SCP-XXXX-A is the most common form of the virus and shares similar characteristics under the microscope to [DATA REDACTED]. It dwells on phosphate, and most particularly, ground phosphate rock. which when ground finely, transmits the virus via air.

Infection by SCP-XXXX-A is most commonly received orally through inhalation. However infection can also be spread via liquids, contact to skin, and blood transmission, making it an extremely infectious disease.

Experiments have shown SCP-XXXX-A shows to be resistant to minimal heating methods. However, it can be incinerated via forms of heat in excess of 800 degrees Celsius. SCP-XXXX-A air spread in a standard 3x3x3m room is slowed from 2.5 seconds, to 5 seconds in temperatures below -15 degrees Celsius.

Preceding Patient Death:

SCP-XXXX-A infected cells are visually indistinguishable from regular SCP-XXXX-B cells1. However they contain slightly modified genetic code which contains a copy of SCP-XXXX-A genetic makeup. SCP-XXXX-A infected cells can function in-tandem or independently of SCP-XXXX-B regardless of vital function from SCP-XXXX-B. Nevertheless, Prior to infected's brain death SCP-XXXX-A infected cells function normally except to develop itself further

Post Mortem:

Post-Mortem SCP-XXXX-A infected cells are visually indistinguishable from a hardened biological substance similar to hardened salt. This substance is anomalously tough, being able to withstand heat in excess of 3000 K and pressure of more than 413,685 kPa. SCP-XXXX-A infected cells tend to retain the major genetic characteristics of SCP-XXXX-B regardless of its phenotypic appearance.

SCP-XXXX-B:

SCP-XXXX-B is the title given to one infected by SCP-XXXX-A. SCP-XXXX-B's outward appearance is indistinguishable from a regular homo sapien. SCP-XXXX-B is defined separately from SCP-XXXX-A due to the retained sapience of the prior organism. Upon brain death, infected organisms are removed of SCP-XXXX-B status.

SCP-XXXX-Z:

SCP-XXXX-Z is an extensive deposit in an underground phosphorous mine on the Island of Nauru. The location itself is not anomalous. However, the phosphorous deposit itself is, resulting in its separate anomalous classification.

Infection Progression:

0 -7 Weeks Post Contact:

Upon contact with an organism SCP-XXXX-A slightly modifies its host's DNA to contain portions of its own genetic code. These portions result in an override mechanism controlled via epigenetic switches which allow the virus to partially control bodily functions and structure.2. This process takes anywhere between two to fourweeks. Early symptoms during the first 48 hours are identical to minor effects of minor phosphorus inhalation (coughing, mild asthmatic symptoms), however one week after contact infected are asymptomatic, and the virus is not infectious. Excluding early symptoms, it is impossible to recognize the presence of the virus at this time except through extensive comparison of an individuals genetic code.

SCP-XXXX-A then travels throughout the nervous system and the brain, attaching extra neurotransmitters in the spinal cord which allow it to transmit and/or interfere with signals sent too and from the brain. This process takes approximately one week to fully complete. At this time mild symptoms begin to show, which include:

  • Reduced sensation of physical pain
  • An unnatural calmness regardless of the situation.
  • In 30% of cases, a fixation or mild compulsion to be touched or to touch others (hand shakes, hugs, etc.)

At this point in time the virus can still be transmitted via blood.

One Month - Seven Months Post Contact

After approximately one month, SCP-XXXX-A, causes rapid physiological changes in an infected organism's saliva. Over a period of 24 hours, saliva becomes viscous and thick, and is infectious via direct contact or by liquids. Sampling of the saliva has shown significantly high levels of sodium. Infected without access to water or that do not maintain proper hydration may experience hypernatremia.

48 hours after the transformation of such saliva, SCP-XXXX-A begins to send extremely high levels of dopamine and serotonin to the brain following physical contact of any form, with the highest levels recorded after kissing another individual3. Following the first kiss, infected show signs of addiction to the sensation and actively attempt to kiss anyone within their vicinity, regardless of gender, sex, or the infected's prior sexuality. No physiological effects have resulted due to excess dopamine levels. This can last up to six months following the first 'kiss' before infected cease vital signs.

Death / Post-Mortem:

After Seven months, saliva is created at a substantially increased rate, and thickens over a period of 6-12 hours until it is incapable of being distinguished from dampened table salt. Due to the increased density, the epiglottis is unable to function properly, resulting in saliva to dripping into the lungs, causing death.

This process is extremely painful to subjects as noted by close study of events in data log 117-B. However, massive amounts of dopamine levels are also present, leading to a mix of extreme pleasure and pain for the infected individual until brain death occurs from lack of oxygen, due to asphyxiation, due to dry drowning.

Post-Mortem the body is rapidly transformed into a biological substance resembling a hardened salt statue of the organism in the position they died in. This statue retains the general characteristics of the organisms form before death. Exactly one week following the completion of this transformation, and every preceding week, instances of SPC-XXXX-A are released from a hole in the statue's mouth. With each excrement of powder the statue looses a portion of its mass, and each excrement continues until the body has completely dissipated.

Addendum XXXX.1: Discovery:

SCP-XXXX was original discovered on the Pacific Island of Nauru, in late March of 1983, after complaints from Australian trade companies of missed phosphate trade shipments from Nauru Airlines prompted the foundation to investigate the matter. Mobile Task Force Epsilon-6 Squad Tango-9, (comprised of 9 members) was sent on an undercover operation to observe the citizens of Nauru to detect and contain any anomalous substances.

Upon arrival the squad was greeted warmly and did not notice any strange occurrences as noted in the Squad Captain's personal Logs XXXX.CL.1 through XXXX.CL.5. However, a week after the first discovery, the logs changed after noticing strange behavior in civilians, as detailed in XXX.CL.6 through XXXX.CL.10. After three weeks of investigation, command received a concerning radio transmission stating the squad was compromised and requested immediate backup from those more specialized in bio-hazard containment.

Within 24 hours, Mobile Task Force Beta-7, Squads Golf-12, and Kilo-5, were sent to the Island. Squad Kilo-5 was tasked to find and rescue MTF Squad Tango-9, and Squad Golf-12 to scout out the area for anomalous activity and to contain it if possible. Squad Kilo-5 located Tango-9 on a small hill close to [DATA REDACTED]. Upon sighting Squad Kilo-5, 6 members of squad Tango-9 attempted to rush towards towards Kilo-5, yelling to let them give out 'free hugs'. They were immediately shot down, and the remaining members of the squad were then detained. Squad Golf-12 split into two groups, the first setting up a temporary base of operations, the second scouting the land. Kilo-5 transported the remainder of Squad Tango-9 to the base of operations, observing and questioning them. Details of observations can be found in Observation Logs XXXX.Tango.1 - XXXX.Tango.12 The scouting patrol was radioed to stay clear of anyone showing "Unusual inclinations to give/receive physical touch".

After a day of scouting, the second group of Squad Golf-12 returned, and reported cases of symptoms in almost every populated area they had entered. They then called command for backup, requesting at least 100 additional members under the contingency that the entire Island could be compromised. The request was granted, and Mobile Task Force Beta-7, Squadron November-27, a 253 member bio-containment unit specializing in large-scale biological outbreaks, was sent to finish the job. Accompanying them were Dr. Mary Schneider, Microbiologist, Dr. Tony Offenburger, Physiologist, and Senior Researcher Dr. William Bernette (specializing in psycho-altering anomalies). During this time Kilo-5 and and Golf-12 reinforced the base of operations, preparing for the squad's arrival.

Upon arrival 48 hours later, Squad November-27 spread through the population of Nauru containing any sign of infection. Upon completion a week later, approximately 40% of the population showed signs of symptoms, including 60% of members of the Naurian Government. The foundation therefore dubbed Nauru no longer capable of maintaining its sovereignty as a nation, and set up a front government under foundation control. Over the next two months, Area 653 was created to contain the infected population. The remaining population was then observed during, and after confirmation of non-infectivity, given Class G amnestics before being re-integrated into daily life.

Concurrently, Squad Golf-12 investigated the island to determine the origin of the virus. After analyzing several of the interviews with Naurian citizens, it was concluded the most likely origin point would be Nauru's extensive phosphorus mines. A journey down the mines led them to a newly opened fissure where mining had begun on a large phosphorous deposit. A team wearing bio-hazard suits traveled down into the deposit, and took samples of the phosphorus rock, transporting them back to Area 653 for further study.

Containment was covered up using journalists working for foundation front companies, under the guise that the phosphorus deposits had run out. The Island of Nauru is now under complete control of the foundation, and is often used as a middle man when transporting anomalies too and from various parts of Oceania, or across the Pacific Ocean.
