SCP-XXXX in its enclosure.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in a standard containment cell, with decor emulating the appearance of Site-84’s break room. SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a glass tank of suitable size for maintaining the mental and physical health of SCP-XXXX. The water filling SCP-XXXX’s tank is to remain at a stable temperature of 24° and requires a 30% water change twice a week in order to maintain a healthy environment. SCP-XXXX is to be fed a diet consisting of common goldfish (Carassius auratus), various de-shelled mollusks, and frozen mice. 1.4 to 2.3 kg of food twice a week will sustain SCP-XXXX adequately.

Personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are provided a rota dictating weekly visiting times for SCP-XXXX, as to prevent bouts of loneliness or aggression. Personnel are furthermore advised not to make direct physical contact with SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX is permitted one packet of standard nicotine gum per month. All interviews conducted with SCP-XXXX require the permission of at least two Level-3 security clearance personnel.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a large alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) measuring 71 cm in length and weighing roughly 140 kg, above the average expectancy for a member of its species. SCP-XXXX displays the personality and memories of Vincent "Vinny" Adesso (1886-1952), former acting boss of a New York crime syndicate.

Tissue samples have determined SCP-XXXX to be healthy in all regards, and in most cases will behave almost identically to a standard member of its species - however, SCP-XXXX is capable of speaking English fluently in a New York accent and dialect, and will frequently engage in friendly conversation with staff. The method by which it does this is entirely unknown, as X-ray examination has determined SCP-XXXX's internal vocalization organs to be identical to that of an ordinary snapping turtle.

On 13/06/2017, SCP-XXXX was discovered attempting to climb out of a sewer drain located in Midtown Manhattan. Reports from pedestrians of a large unidentified turtle continuously requesting for them to "give [it] a hand" resulted in Foundation action - SCP-XXXX was successfully contained and confirmed sapient.
