Rare capture of the shadow of SCP-3XXX-1 distorting for a split second

Item #: SCP-3XXX

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3XXX is to be contained in the steel folding chair toolbox
[DATA EXPUNGED] object or living entity SCP-3XXX currently resides in, hereby referred to as SCP-3XXX-1, against one wall of a standard containment chamber inside a double checkpoint isolation containment chamber. The walls must be white to allow clear visibility of shadows cast upon the chamber.

Attached to the ceiling and lining the walls of the opposite side of the containment chamber are high-intensity spotlight lamps aimed directly at SCP-3XXX-1, ensuring that its shadow is clearly cast onto one side of the chamber at all times. Attached to all the walls and ceiling of the room are high-intensity arc lamp spotlights pointed directly at SCP-3XXX-1, ensuring the shadow cast from it remain minimal. Personnel assigned to the SCP-3XXX control room are to monitor the functionality of the spotlights and emergency generator system, as well as the size and consistency of the shadow being cast from SCP-3XXX-1 via camera feed, and call for maintenance or security immediately upon knowledge of a burnt-out lamp, issues with the generator, or erratic movements of the SCP-3XXX-1 shadow.

The only circumstance under which personnel are allowed entrance is to replace lamps. Personnel entering the room are required to wear the designated full-body reflective suits, and must be cautioned not to step in front of functional spotlights.

Under no circumstances should a light source come into contact with SCP-3XXX.
(See Incident 3XXX-1)

Description: SCP-3XXX is an amorphous shadow that jumps from one physical entity to the next, using them as a host temporarily and turning them into an instance of SCP-3XXX-1. While possessing the entity, SCP-3XXX assumes the form of SCP-3XXX-1’s natural shadow, reacting to nearby light sources as if it were the natural shadow of SCP-3XXX-1. However, the shadow of SCP-3XXX-1 distorts or morphs unnaturally in regular intervals, and sometimes takes the shape of ██████. It can only possess one entity at a time, and only assumes the shadows of living creatures and any man-made objects. Size appears to be a factor, as it has been observed to have maximum size limits for SCP-3XXX-1 hosts. The limit has observed to be reached with objects the size of small automobiles. (See Addendum 3XXX-02)

It’s method of jumping from host to host is either by direct physical contact with any living being, or by shadows coming into contact with one another, living or otherwise. This means it cannot transfer between two inanimate objects simply touching either other if their shadows do not meet. In an environment with little to no lighting, SCP-3XXX has been observed to have free reign over the environment, unimpeded by physical barriers, although there is an apparent travel time involved even in completely unlit environment. Any living being that wanders into an environment occupied by SCP-3XXX with no lighting quickly become an instance of SCP-3XXX-1, and in the case of living beings, SCP-3XXX-2.

After subjugating a live host, SCP-3XXX will attempt to find another host and is usually aided by the new instance of SCP-3XXX-2. All Drones will continue to be active even if separated by SCP-3XXX over long distances, allowing long range manipulation or aid to be provided from multiple locations.

To date, there has been no cases of SCP-3XXX leaving an instance of SCP-3XXX-1A without subjugating them into an instance of SCP-3XXX-2. Any manual attempts at removing SCP-3XXX from any SCP-3XXX-1 instance have proven unsuccessful, short of complete destruction or termination of the SCP-3XXX-1 host.

SCP-3XXX was first discovered on ██/██/████, in ██████ █████ School in ███████, Canada following reports of a sudden breakout of mass murder among █████ students. Local news media outlets initially reported it to be a school shooting. SCP Foundation agents converged upon the school to assess the potential anomaly before MTF Taskforces were sent in after the nature of SCP-3XXX was discovered. Causalities continued to increase during containment procedures, including Foundation Personal to what was initially reported as friendly fire. MTF Taskforces managed to isolate SCP-3XXX to an SCP-3XXX-1B in the form of a steel folding chair after using personal lamp lights to isolate the shadow of SCP-3XXX-1B. Careful extraction by keeping multiple light sources on SCP-3XXX at all stages of transportation was necessary, and is now contained in Site-██.

Incident 3XXX-1:

Addendum 3XXX-02: Following further research after Incident 3XXX-1, which resulted in a containment breach, the maximum size limit of hosts observed from SCP-3XXX appears to have shifted from small automobiles to large ████████. Further experiments have been halted indefinitely until further notice.
