Item #: SCP-5xxx
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: A 2.3 meter exclusion zone has been established around the island, with the cover story of being an archeological research center. Individuals who attempt to breach the exclusion zone are to be detained as soon as possible.
Due to the anomaly’s frequently shifting nature, multiple nautical teams have been established in order to quickly disband and create exclusion zones as necessary. The Department of Analytics is currently developing means to predict when and where SCP-5XXXX will move.
Description: SCP-5xxx is an island off the coast of Maine, USA. It is apparently invisible to remote viewing technology, and its exact location changes frequently. The island seems to be much larger than external appearances would suggest: the further inland one goes, the more space there seems to be.
SCP-5xxx consists mostly of a temperate rainforest interspersed with prairies and grain fields. Parts of the island house man-made structures, typically abandoned nuclear facilities, grain silos, and blockhouses. Radio, television, telephones, and internet cannot reach or exit SCP-5xxx, though they function within it.
SCP-5xxx-2 refers to a collection of paratechnological kinetic sculptures architecturally similar to the “Strandbeast” series designed by Theo Jansen. However, they are far more advanced technologically.
Instances can vary wildly in size; some are as small as insects, while others reach sizes exceeding that of the largest conventional organisms. Their interior mechanisms are much larger than their exterior, allowing for extensive and highly complex mechanisms such as server farms, rapid prototyping facilities, or small particle accelerators, though they consist entirely of kinetic components rather than electronic ones. All SCP-5xxx-2 instances are disguised as bizarre, fictitious organisms by holographic projectors. SCP-5xxx-2 instances compose the entirety of SCP-5xxx’s ecosystem except for various plants.
