Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the current state of severe disrepair of SCP-XXXX and the complexities that stem from its anomalous behavior; operations are to be conducted by foot with CBRN gear alongside analog-based equipment. Any and all vehicular equipment provided must operate on a combustion engine with little to no computerized operation; current requests to replace the on-site vehicles with something more suited to the terrain are being processed.1
The site (10 kilometers in diameter with a mixture of mountains, marshes and the passage itself) which guards SCP-XXXX is to be guarded by rotating eight-hour shifts of no less than nine armed personnel not including the native military forces stationed nearby. Third parties consisting of civilians found inside or around the death zone (one kilometer from the central point of the zone) are to be treated for radiation poisoning and scanned for cancerous afflictions caused to the body; Class-B amnesiacs are to be administered upon successful procedures. Should a third-party fatality occur, compensation will be provided to the family of the deceased on a need-to-know basis as per the Ethics Committee; third parties including certain groups opposed to the work of the Foundation are to be interned at any of the nearby military bases and administered Class-A amnesiacs upon recovery.
All personnel guarding SCP-XXXX (excluding several specific D-Class operatives) are to be trained in advanced mountain warfare and have moderate knowledge of SRM (Solar Radiation Management), telegraphy or the operation and maintenance of CBRN equipment, this training will be provided upon arrival to the site. Arsenal provided will be standard issue from Canadian and US forces stationed at ███████ Air Force Base.
As per the location of SCP-XXXX and the political climate that continues to unfold; Foundation (D-Class or otherwise) personnel are to cooperate with the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and the United States Air Force in operations to divert naval traffic away from the wreckage site and to ward off potential scavengers, hostile third parties and poachers (due in part to the falsification campaign launched upon the immediate classification of SCP-XXXX).
Description: SCP-XXXX is the wreckage of a Sverdlov-class cruiser belonging to the former Soviet Navy. The vessel is in a state of severe disrepair; with the hull and superstructure having sustained what appears to be a massive explosion just towards the base of the engine room. SCP-XXXX is an unmarked vessel, no ship number or name could be attributed to the SCP in question. Foundation sleeper operatives based in the Russian Federation confirmed aged rumors of an obsolete ship matching the description of SCP-XXXX leaving Vladivostok2 in mid-1983. Manufacturing ledgers taken from ██████ show for an unfinished cruiser ordered by several redacted parties in early 1962 for an experimental test bed.
SCP-XXXX has been of great interest to the Foundation since its anomalous behavior began shortly after it had become beached in the Northwest Passages. Several accidents involving cruise ships and icebreakers brought interest to the Foundation alongside the numerous reports of catastrophic radiation poisoning from local natives; in 1985, a Foundation vessel disguised as the USCGC Polar Sea attempted to cross into the strait to search for any and all anomalous activity within the area, this early attempt brought great scrutiny and a greater emphasis on subtlety was recognized3. For decades afterwards; sporadic fly-throughs and satellite operations continued to search for the hidden anomaly. On ████, ██, 2018; SCP-XXXX was discovered off of the coast of Northern Canada beached in a rocky marsh in the Northwest Passage after The Akademik Ioffe, a cruise ship operating under a line from the Russian Federation, had all control surfaces shut off abruptly and struck ice; a front-ship from the Serpent's Hand operating under the guise of the Akedemik Ioffe's sister ship4 assisted in rescuing all passengers from the submerging vessel as Foundation personnel arrived in patrol ships belonging to the Canadian Navy.
SCP-XXXX's location was narrowed down to several distinct fjords with assistance from both Canadian watercraft and American C&C aircraft based nearby. Early attempts to investigate SCP-XXXX upon its discovery resulted in a near 100% fatality rate upon approaching the "Death Zone". A false flag campaign relegated the zone and a large area around it as a protected wildlife habitat maintained by the RCMP in order to prevent unnecessary fatalities and subsequent settlements.
Later investigations revealed several key features not usually found on vessels of this size; operations with analog-based equipment proved reliable enough despite high amounts of radiation noise thrown across the ship that it will become the go-to method for further expeditions.
1: SCP-XXXX has, in place of its original armament, several square turrets with high-frequency transmitters installed. Though these turrets are in the same state of neglect as the rest of the vessel, they are capable enough to manufacture what appears to be artificial solar storms that fire off devastating waves of solar radiation. The full capabilities of SCP-XXXX's main armament is unknown at this time as little documentation has been found. SCP-XXXX is found to be capable of surface-based solar flares that are capable of directing currents only on the Y-axis; measures are currently being considered should the weapons on board be capable of omni-directional behavior.
2: The number of crewmen onboard the vessel amount to less than 1/3 than should actually have originally been stationed5.
3: Heavy doses of radiation from the lower decks, any attempt to open the majority of the lower floors have been unsuccessful thus far. The central chamber of SCP-XXXX's inner hull is estimated to radiate upwards of 450,000 msv, this is believed to be the main chamber for the solar storm generator6.
4: Closer inspection of SCP-XXXX's medical suite holds an unusually large amount of charcoal7 and potassium iodate, a medical diary highlighted the use of Tulsi8
Further expeditions into the ship's crew hold brought to light the log entries of several distinct members of the crew. Outlined below with a small description of each; please read the addendums for their respective journal entries.
1: Captain First Class Mischa ███████; a capable captain whose career spanned back to service with the Baltic Sea Fleet under a Convoy Escort. The Captain appeared to have been in the sights of the Politburo for some time due to disagreements over Pro-Stalinist elements9 on his previous vessel along with suspicion of possible Pro-NATO views.
2: Senior Warrant Officer Oleg ███████████; the chief engineer on SCP-XXXX, log entries show him as a stoic, quiet man with a dedicated work ethic. Mischa and Oleg seem to be on good terms, while the latter shows moderate disdain towards the ship's doctor. He seems familiar with cruisers, implying this is not have been the first time he's been on a Sverdlov.
3: Senior Lieutenant Grigori ███████████; an experienced doctor-surgeon with numerous medical degrees and a career in the navy spanning two decades, shows anger towards his family history and the glory his father earned in the War against Germany. Work history shows numerous attempts to emigrate west were blocked by the Politburo.
4: Seaman Aleksander ██████████; a relatively new seaman whose father has ties to the Politburo. Journal entries propagate a distressed man with possible suicidal tendencies. See addendum for details.
Observed below are but a few of the several dozen expedition interviews conducted that have been recorded for future interpretation.
Subject: Agent Richard ███████: Veteran Foundation operative specializing in long-term expeditions with a career spanning from SCP-███ to ████
Interviewer: Professor Erwin ███████: Chief Researcher on site. preferred for interviews due to an uncommon sense of empathy towards others.
Due to the sparse environment surrounding the site of SCP-XXXX, a decision has been made to conduct all interviews on site in a small construction shelter near the edge of the safe zone. Agent ███████ appears haggard and forlorn as a cup of coffee cools in his hands:

Edwin: Alright…let's see, how does magnetic tape work again?
Richard: I think you're using it in reverse.
Edwin: Oh! You're right, my apologies. I'm not used to…well…something that's old as my
father's shag rug.Richard: It's fine, Ed. So you wanted to ask me about the march towards the SCP?
Edwin: Yes. I would like to interview you regarding the ship you were on…yes, the ship…or as you field agents call them…the SCIP.
Richard: Your joke was bad and it made me feel worse.
Edwin: I'm always happy to oblige, my good friend. Now; what have we learnt from the investigation of…(Edwin pulls out a roughly drawn sketch of the SCP's interior) The mid-section that held the crews quarters?
Richard: We went in with heavy CBRN gear; outdated choco-chip camo that made us stand out like tits on a bull but it was high quality10. We covered the ten-kilo trek from base camp towards the site. The only way inside was through the giant hole in the mid-section of the ship.Edwin: Yes; that was one of the most shocking features I've observed so far. What would you think could cause such a blast?
Richard: Our demo guy thinks someone rigged up an explosive in the middle of what he thinks was the armory…someone was either trying to kill themselves or the ship.
Edwin: Either way; it certainly was the death knell that brought SCP-XXXX to her fate. Tell me about the interior.
Richard: (Coughs slightly) Right. The inside was a total mess; I've seen warzones and this ship looked like it been through all of 'em. Every seaman on board seemed like they were armed with something; knives, clubs…rifles, shotguns…one guy even rigged a plastic explosive to a detonator hidden underneath a floormat in the galley.
Edwin: So you think it might have been a mutiny?
Richard: More than that I think; if what you guys up here are saying is true, then I think they were going to try to turn back and drop the whole thing in Vladivostok. I read the journals, Ed…that ship was a one way ticket to the afterlife.
Edwin: We'll cover the journals later on; now, what can you tell me about the rest of the ves-
(Edwins radio goes off as alarms begin to sound. The sounds of a large aircraft plummeting towards the ground become ever more significant as two chairs seem to fall to the ground.
Edwin: We need to evacuate now! Leave the recorder, we'll come back for it. █████, we need to mo-
(Chaos fills the last pieces of the recording as sounds of falling structure reverb across the last few moments of the interview)
Closing Statement: Edwin and Agent Richard ████ managed to escape just as the shelter began to collapse. Reviews of satellite intelligence concentrated on the area indicate that SCP-XXXX activated as a Boeing RC-135 flew overhead as part of a weekly program to monitor and scan the surrounding terrain. According to a nearby RCAF surveillance vessel; the antennae on the aft-most turret began to rotate counter-clockwise before a burst of light flew upwards, striking the American C&C aircraft, disabling its control surfaces and potentially killing all onboard with extremely lethal doses of radiation.11
Interview Log-SCP-XXXX-B
**Log Date: 5-25-2020:Datelin: 1400 PM
This interview is conducted a safe distance away from the outskirts of the SCP Ground Site. The room appears to be an old tourist station based out of an old dilapidated camp site. Three men sit around a table while a magnetic reel sits turned off. One of the men, dressed in fatigues, holds a can of soda. A man of Middle Eastern descent dressed in a lab coat stands up to pours a cup of coffee, garnering a dirty look from the soldier in fatigues; a blonde-haired man with thick glasses turns on the reel recorder as the lab coat sits back down.
Subject One: D-1742: Middle Eastern immigrant with a background in nuclear physics, imprisoned due to ties with Islamic Radicals and militant warlords.
Subject Two: Staff Sergeant Matthias ██████: A member of the Canadian Ground Garrison affiliated with the Foundation and its exploration of and around SCP-XXXX.Interviewer: Professor Edwin ███████: Despite the tragedy that befell the previous interview; Edwin is reportedly certain that nothing could go wrong this time around.
Professor Edwin ███████: A pleasure to meet you, gentlemen. I'd say it's right time to conduct this interview most professionally and concisely. Would you say your names and your position here at this site?
SSGT Matthias ███████: Yes Professor. I am Matthias ███████; stationed within the 5 Kilometre mark towards the vessel we've been tasked to guard. I'm the squad leader tasked with making sure the midway base gets supplies for expeditions.D-1742: D-1742 or Doctor ███████ ██████ of Basra…back when I held such prestige.
