Nightmare Canvas

Item #: SCP-5353

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP that is kept positioned onto a 27” x 40” wooden easel. SCP-5353 is to be contained in a 6 x 6 x 6 foot cell. A 28” x 32” cloth blanket is mandatory to be over SCP at all times. Video surveillance is to be constantly monitored at all times.

Description: SCP-5353 is a 20” x 24” white painting canvas that appears new and empty to begin with, however, within 6 seconds of viewing SCP-5353, SCP-5353 will start painting itself into the viewer's greatest fear. Whenever the canvas starts painting itself, it can be seen by everyone who looks at it. However, anyone else viewing SCP-5353 while it is painting is strictly prohibited, due to the fact that the person will start to panic and will begin scratching viciously at they’re eyes until they can no longer see. As soon as the painting is finished it reverts back to its normal white state, but for the person who viewed it will always see the painting and always stays the same for that person.

The person viewing it has to experience they’re greatest fear. This means that SCP-5353 would not paint something that the viewer would have never seen or heard of before. This can be from something that was read in a story or watched on television, even thought up by at a point in they’re own imagination. It is currently unknown how the canvas knows this or even how it paints itself with no materials. It always takes approximately 2 hours 26 minutes and 45 seconds for the painting to be completed. Once the painting is completed, whatever is on the canvas will then be manifested into a physical being and then will appear to the person who views it. The process of this to happen has been as little as 30 seconds, to 8 days to occur. It is unclear if there is a specific time this occurs or if it random.

The substance that is used to make the painting resembles paint, but dries up instantly whenever it is painted on and has no sort of liquid form. It is currently unidentified what the substance is and is labeled as SCP-5353-A. Samples of SCP-5353-A seems to disintegrate and then vanish as soon as the current painting is finished. The disintegrating process takes 3 seconds and then will vanish.

The canvas was ordered from a website by Daniel Green who purchased a 12 pack of empty canvases. Daniel Green was a manager at a local paint store called The Artists Cafe in Philadelphia and was working alone at the time. When it arrived, he opened the package and started putting the canvases away. Daniel then noticed that one of the canvases was being actively painted on and took a photo with his phone, set the canvas down, and attempted to contact the seller. When contacted, the seller noted that they do not sell faulty canvases and denied packaging a self painting canvas. Daniel put the canvas in his bag and took it home with him. It is believed that once Daniel arrived home he looked at the painting and was terrified at the sight of his childhood nightmare, Chuckles the Clown (Who will be referred to as SCP-5353-1) . He dropped it, turned around, and was met with (SCP-5353-1) who then proceeded to eat Daniel alive. Daniels neighbor heard the ruckus and proceeded to call the police. The two officers that arrived on the scene had cameras on, this is the audio from the footage
