Item Name: World Tree

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: World Tree is to be kept in a special domed underground arboretum equipped with UV lights that emulate normal sunlight as well as a controlled weather environment. Temperature and weather must emulate weather at coordinates ██.████° N, ███.████°W and as such, weather at said coordinates should be closely monitored and emulated as soon as possible.

Description: World Tree resembles a typical tree of the species Pseudotsuga menziesii, otherwise known as a Douglas Fir. The specimen is 123.3 meters tall with a split in the trunk near the bottom of the tree. All tests of the bark and lower hanging branches indicate that all genetic markers are consistent with normal Douglas Fir trees from the surrounding area. Tests with an increment borer indicate the age of the specimen at ██ years old.

While outward appearances show no sign of any displacement phenomenon, if a subject climbs World Tree, halfway through the climb the subject begins feeling suddenly dizzy, but only for 2-4 seconds before recovering. However, the subject will immediately report finding themselves in many different strange forests. Upon further climbing and reaching the top of World Tree, the subject sees the tops of trees and even unusual sights in the sky, such as planets that shouldn’t be there, strange star formations etc.

World Tree was recovered from a suburban area at coordinates ██.████° N, ███.████° on █████ █, 2███ after reports of children climbing it and describing unusual forests and landscapes every time. Reports of this began sometime in the year 2███. World Tree was transplanted in a normal underground arboretum deep under Site 19. However, World Tree began immediately dying despite every effort to keep it alive until Dr. █████ suggested emulating the weather from the retrieval site. Upon implementation, World Tree began to recover. Dr. █████ placed in charge of testing.

Test WT-01: Dr. █████

D-Class subject was instructed to climb World Tree. Upon reaching the halfway point, subject reported nausea and dizziness. Simultaneously, subject disappeared from visual contact, although subject’s voice could still be heard audibly. Upon disappearing, subject indicated that the facility had vanished, revealing a forest landscape. When subject reached the top of the tree, subject reported that the entire forest was [DATA EXPUNGED]. Reports of this forest type are similar to the forest described by SCP-███ during [DATA EXPUNGED]. It is unknown at this time whether this is the same dimension or a similar one. Subject returned, reporting the same dizziness upon returning to the halfway mark.

Test WT-02: Dr. █████

D-Class subject reported similar dizziness. The forest he described consisted of what subject described as “Living Christmas Trees” in reference to the presumable bioluminescent trees surrounding the subject. Subject indicated that it was nighttime and instead of one moon, three moons were in the sky. Subject also described the temperature as “Colder than Siberia.” Subject returned quickly afterwards with frozen extremities and treated for the beginnings of frostbite.

Test WT-03: Dr. █████

D-Class subject reported dizziness again. Upon reaching the top, subject reported seeing a vast cliff on either side, sliding down to a green ocean. Climate was reported as being tropical and two suns were seen in the sky as well as a white band that stretched along the equatorial plane. Subject reported hearing something similar to seagulls nearby but couldn’t see any birds. After 15 minutes, subject returned, sweating.

Test WT-04: Dr. █████

D-Class subject reported seeing a tropical landscape through the branches. Weather was hailing heavily and subject quickly retreated back down. Subject was treated for bruises and two broken fingers.

NOTE: All further subjects are to wear thick helmets and protective gear. – Dr. █████

Test WT-05: Dr. █████

D-Class subject reported appearing in utter darkness. Subject climbed to the top and reported hearing and seeing absolutely nothing initially. However, subject then described heavy breathing all around and what subject described as “…two massive eyes…” opening above. Subject described the eyes as resembling two black holes. Subject panicked and retreated down, reporting that the eyes seemed to be moving closer.

Test WT-06: Dr. █████

Instead of climbing up, D-Class subject was brought to the top of the tree and climbed down. Subject reported the same nausea at the halfway point but on-site personnel reported no disappearance of the subject. Subject’s medical tests revealed no change.

Test WT-07: Dr. █████

Small drone was sent up World Tree. No results.

Test WT-08: Dr. █████

Test squirrel placed in containment chamber and studied. When squirrel climbed World Tree, no disappearance was reported, although the squirrel did appear disoriented at the halfway mark. Squirrel retrieved shortly after.

NOTE: “It seems to me that World Tree will only react to creatures who exhibit sapience. I’m not entirely sure as to why that is, or why the events began only in 2███. I’ve requested that willing SCPs be brought in for testing.” Dr. █████

Request denied on the grounds that some SCP’s might attempt escape.

Test WT-09: Dr. █████

Subject reported the dizziness but didn’t report any changes in the landscape. When the subject reached the top, the subject described the arboretum as being completely empty and instead of the normal domed roof there was a domed windowed ceiling looking out at a barren rocky landscape. Subject reported seeing a blue-green orb on the horizon which on further inspection subject described as Earth, only with one extra continent located in the Atlantic Ocean.

Subject then reported personnel in analogues of SCP uniforms entering and surrounding World Tree, shouting at subject in an unknown language. Subject quickly began climbing down. Personnel reported hearing nothing from the other side, but subject had been struck by a bullet of unknown origin. Bullet was extracted for study and subject treated for bullet wounds.

Test WT-10: Dr. █████

D-Class subject reported nausea and then a general feeling of unease. The climb was reported as being slower due to subject’s apparent unease. Subject reported appearing in a field of multi-colored fungal growths which were on average the apparent size of World Tree. Subject reported seeing not a singular sun but a massive black hole in the sky surrounded by a large amount of stars.

NOTE: “Judging from the description given, I think the subject appeared on a world near the center of a galaxy. If that’s so, that throws our whole understanding of how life forms out the window.” Dr. █████

Test WT-11: Dr. █████

D-Class subject reported arriving in what appeared to be an opaque dome. Subject also reported that the sense of nausea didn’t go away as with other previous tests. Upon reaching the top subject reported seeing large globes floating outside the dome with instances of World Tree located inside. Subject returned with no incidents.

NOTE: “This could indicate that the specimen forms some kind of mycelial network throughout the cosmos. Like some kind of universal Yggdrasil.” Dr. █████

Test WT-12: Dr. █████

Moments before test could begin, humanoid in D-Class gear appeared near the halfway point and climbed to the top. Humanoid spoke Russian and told personnel that they weren’t at liberty to discuss their operation. On Dr. █████’s orders, humanoid was allowed to climb back down. Test suspended pending discussion of more security measures.

Test WT-13: Dr. █████

D-Class subject reported appearing in a suburb identical to the one in which the specimen was first captured. Subject reported that aside from the analogue of World Tree, there was no plant and animal life visible. Subject reported that the surrounding houses were covered in a thick layer of dust. Subject’s words were “It’s like the Sahara here! Just as hot too!” Subject quickly retreated when seeing what was described as a massive dust storm approaching. Dust particles taken for testing on subject’s return indicate they are biological in origin, including samples of human DNA.

Test WT-14: Dr. █████

Subject reported an instant popping of the ears, as if they had suddenly descended below sea level. Upon reaching the top of the specimen, subject indicated that the surrounding landscape appeared to be a massive underwater forest surrounded by a dome. Subject described air as having a salty smell. Trees surrounding the specimen resembled abnormally large seaweed. Beyond said dome, subject reported seeing nothing but blackness. When asked how subject was able to see the forest, subject reported being unable to see any light source. Subject returned with no further incidents.

Test WT-15: Dr. █████

Two D-Class subjects were brought in, one to climb the left split and the other to climb the right. Upon reaching the halfway point, both subjects disappeared from sight of personnel and each other.

D-12131 reported having appeared in a thick fog, and when subject climbed to the top of the specimen, reported initially seeing nothing. On further observation, subject began panicking and reported seeing massive shadows in the fog. Subject quickly retreated and fell unconscious upon retrieval. Subject made a full recovery after three days.

D-32344 reported appearing in a forest underneath a geodesic dome. Subject reported seeing a small enclosure of red trees surrounding the specimen. Outside the dome subject reported a landscape of large green rocks resembling spires and a dark blue sun in a dim yellow sky. Surrounding the specimen were a group of humanoids in white robes bowing and chanting to World Tree. Subject reported after recovery feeling at ease when listening to the chanting. Subject recovered successfully.
